Ysbail was asked by Jeffeth to speak to the spirits about an experience that he had. Spending time meditating, using his tabard as a focus, she asks the spirits about the night when Jeffeth went down into the Lowers with 99 other Knights of Solace. She talks about the moving shadows that whispered 'Not him'. She mentions how all of the Knights of Solace died that night save Jeffeth. And then she asks the question: Why was Jeffeth spared? She spends the better part of two weeks meditating on this question: Why Jeffeth? She burns sacred herbs and makes small offerings of freshly planted flowers and painted wooden beads and beautiful feathers from the forest.
Result
At the best of times, the spirits are alien with often confusing advice. They are often most clear on subjects they understand, such as nature or other spirits, but in Arx and dealing with a man like Jeffeth, their comments are perplexing indeed. They say:
"Service given, service gained. Kindness given, kindness returned. A knight before, a knight now. Delusion, ruby and a diamond throne. Shadows watch and shadows bow."
