Obituary: One of the earliest victims of the fiendish Gerry, the widely disliked tanner met his end in a spectacular explosion that left a crater where his shop once resided.

Description: There's an oddness about his appearance. He appears much younger than he should, his skin having an almost unnatural smoothness, for he's been in business in the Lower Boroughs for a long time. How long? No one can ever seem to quite recall. He has intense blue eyes that have a habit of staring at people for longer than seems appropriate, and he smiles frequently, but often at the wrong times.

Personality: Although undeniably talented, there's something very off-putting about this commoner. No one can quite say why. He's unfailingly courteous and polite, nearly obsequious. He's pleasant to anyone who comes to visit his shop. But he always just seems a little... off. He has a way of talking that seems very unusual, and seems to have no common interests whatsoever. The way he stares at people often makes others uneasy. No one seems to know where he came from, or what he does besides his work, and his neighbors go out of their way to avoid casual contact if they can help it.

Background: No one seems to know exactly how long Malavaunt has been one of the more talented tanners of the Lower Boroughs, but everyone agrees he's a bit of an odd duck. He's been known to disappear for long stretches of time, and reappear without a word of explanation. Some whisper he must have underworld connections, because he's never seemed to have any trouble at all with the various crime families of the Lower Boroughs, and there's always a story or two about people who have had casual contact with him disappearing. The leatherworker keeps to himself, though, and rarely shares stories with acquaintances... and when he does, they tend to be strange enough where most people don't care to associate with him for very long.
