Prince Otakar Redrain
"The awful thing is that beauty is mysterious as well as terrible."
Description: A very tall and extremely serious Northman, his keen emerald eyes seem to pay close attention to all around him, and often the stain of ink can be found on his fingertips. A long, thin patrician nose is seated over oft-compressed pale lips, and his lower face is covered with a neatly trimmed blond beard. Depending on his mood, his honey blond hair might be left to brush along his broad shoulders or be tied in braids with bits of metal. Blond brows seem to often be quirked in some amusing observation or another, and his wiry frame is usually held rather straight.
Personality: Unlike many of his Northern kin, Otakar is slow to anger - but conversely, also slow to cool down once that rage has built up. Intellectually curious with an eye towards Southern culture, Otakar has seamlessly blended his belief in the spirits with the ideals of Oathlands knighthood. Pragmatic and restrained, this knight of the North views most problems as one that can and should be solved with as little violence as possible - and when necessary, backed with sound tactics and the precision of a scalpel.
Background: A nephew of Duke Vercyn Halfshav through his mother, Celina, and father from House Redrain, it was fully expected that Otakar's upbringing would be a martial one, battling the tribes of the Shav'arvani under his uncle. And indeed, he fulfilled that expectation with the grim resolve demanded of him, although he took time between his military training to learn much from books both his uncle and mother had sent up to Whitehold. Once he could patrol, he spent time making sorties against the Abandoned on the outskirts of the Everwinter - and then came the battle of Stormwall. Taking to the field with his uncle's forces, the Northern knight acquitted himself bravery, if what he saw there changed his life dramatically. Now, in Arx, he has come to join the Duke's retinue and help battle future enemies to come.
Name | Summary |
Amari | A big, strong Northerner with the fine manners of an Oathlander. Able to lift heavy furniture with ease, and gallantly rescue a lady that may have been inelegantly dragging such across the floor. It was a pleasure to meet him. |
Echo | What better place to stumble into another cousin-in-law than at The Spirits, enjoying a drink and complaining about the weather? I should've guessed from the very beginning that he was related. |
Elgana | My... cousin! I have so many of them! He is so polite and a warrior, but something more than that, too. Just like the rest of us he's having a hard time adapting to the heat, but I know in time he'll be just fine. I hope he finds the city to his liking and that we can spend more time together to get to know each other better. |
Iseulet | A jovial Northern man who wears far too much steel and fur for this time of year so far down south (well, for him!) My advice to him would to be to stay well hydrated and come over for a drink sometime at the Empyrean to ensure this happens. What do you mean he's a Prince?! How refreshing. |
Jaerith | Nice enough man for a prince! I always expect the worst when meeting those of much higher station than I, but he is down to earth and has his people's needs at his heart. Will be interested in working with him. |
Jev | He likes all the Gods equally. Egads. That's like 13 things to all like the exact same. He must not like any of them or...he's LYING! >:| |
Margerie | A prince of the north in furs is making my daugher sniff the air. After all that wolf talk. Gods preserve me. |
Norwood | He seems a bit out of place, this Redrain prince. I hope he finds his stride quickly enough here in Arx, for he seems rather polite. |
Petal | A Redain prince ho speaks the language of the North. He seems quite nice, event to little prodigals. |
Reese | He is interested in the forest. His words have a subtle and confidence kind of strength. |
Rinel | A good man, though he should trust the Faith more. |
Sabella | He seems quite civilized for all the rumors about northerners! And nice enough to offer to help me with scholarly things! I think we should quickly become good friends! |
Saoirse | The Redrain prince was positively dying in the summer heat because he was in furs. What a loon! A Lycene would NEVER dress inappropriately ... for summer. (he also helped support trade engagements between the VElenosa and Redrain but WHATEVER: FURS! SO RIDIC!) |
Shae | Not a wolf. Probably a bear. Yes. Definitely a bear. A Man-bear. |
