Lycene Military Buildup

Princess Jaenelle Velenosa, the Grand Duchess of the Lyceum, has led a significant military project throughout the past year. Working with the rulers of numerous domains, the Grand Duchess oversaw construction of additional fortifications in Southport, Ostria, Tor, Caer Morien, Gemecitta, Saikland Greens, Nilanza and Brassfall March. Ostria in particular greatly expanded upon its name as the City of Walls under the guidance of Duke Hadrian Mazetti, with its defenses rivaling the massive fortifications of many of the core holdings of the great houses. All of the domains became significantly more defensible, which in turn has prompted uninvolved city-states throughout the Lyceum to begin to work on their defenses, ever wary that a build up among House Velenosa's strongest vassals may well be a prelude to war- and largely just assume they know something that they don't.
Throughout the Oathlands, the fortification project has been greeted with dismay and a great deal of unease. Many of the Lyceum's ancestral rivals believe that a fortification project is likely a prelude to hostilities, with the Lyceum attempting to make certain that counterattacks would be easily rebuffed, and to keep Oathland cavalry pushes restrained from daring deeper strikes into Lycene territory. There's been a few shouting matches between Oathlands and Lycene nobles in the Assembly of Peers as a result.
