Prince Donrai Thrax is dead, but his grandson Prince Abbas Thrax has command of the Leviathan, the fleet of House Thrax. It is quite possible that the overwhelming majority of Abandoned that had turned to piracy in the past year were emboldened by the crises in the Compact, and particularly by the death of the old highlord, presuming that a succession crisis might lead to weakness and a lack of resolve in House Thrax. Prince Abbas Thrax answers that in the least ambiguous way possible in a campaign of horrifying slaughter that would have warmed Donrai's non-existant heart. Village after village that is even passingly affiliated with the Gyre is put to the sword, with scores of hostages taken to ensure a peace among the handful of survivors. Flayed examples of crushed resistance are left crucified on crosses presented to the sea throughout the Mourning Isles and house Thrax's losses in the unrelenting campaign of violence is heavily offset by the plunder seized. Even a rare gesture of mercy, the release of some smallfolk prisoners, turns to horror as it seems the prisoners were intentionally stored in festering conditions to inflict them with plague before being re-released to hostile populations. It is a campaign of terror unlikely to be forgotten for a generation, and Prince Abbas does much to crush the spirit of any potential resistance at sea from the Isles Abandoned. The dead number in the tens of thousands, conservatively, the majority from disease.
