Calaudrin, assisted by Sparte and Silas, had a very simple goal. To make sure the flood of refugee ex-thralls arriving in Arx, many of whom were wildly violent criminals, didn't create problems. The Iron Guard presence in the city is tremendous. One can't really sneeze without hitting an Iron Guard, which is as unpleasant for the guardsmen as it is for the resentful Lower Boroughs crownsworn, but there's no giant crimewave as some might expect. What there are, however, is quite a few new Iron Guardsmen recruits. Some are very skeptical of a new wave of guardsmen recruited from a group that includes violent criminals, revolutionaries, armed Abandoned that raided the Compact, thieves and the like, especially ones that by and large have intense grudges against anyone from the Isles. But the new guards swear that they won't abuse their positions. Honest.
