Authority and YOU

Seems it's time for this, again. Please do not campaign against or crusade against characters in leadership positions that are enforcing thematic and setting appropriate consequences for actions. It is baffling - particularly when it makes no IC sense for your character (let's say, because the machine you are raging against is the one that secures your own position in society) and it is decidedly not fun for the people in the position of enforcing those things.

Today, let's talk about the Faith, as an example. If you are disfavored by the Faith, the way to get out of that is to speak to the Faith to get terms set for atonement/penance, and then to carry those out. Things a character in disfavor invents do not count as formal penance. Things a character in disfavor has done in the past do not count as penance.

For a RL parallel, read up on the "Road to Canossa", where a King made a trek and prostrated himself to gain the forgiveness of the pope, lest his excommunication invalidate his rule as king. After this forgiveness was given, perhaps you think the King flounced off and tossed over his shoulder "it wasn't a REAL apology, and now we are done with each other!" Not so, my little baby bat. Flutter closer, and let me tell you that, in fact, the King took communion with the Pope in the castle's chapel, and he definitely did not make with backsass, because the church was very politically powerful. As is the Faith of the Pantheon.

If you are attempting honestly to get penance and are not being offered any (or not being offered accomplishable goals), talk to staff.
