Story Updates

Posted by Puffin on 01/27/20
For the record, when we write story updates and Vox updates, and say things like "this group thinks this way" - we are generally representing the way NPCs on the whole (who comprise the vast majority of the Arx population) are reacting. In general, you choose how your PC reacts. The PCs are more dynamic than the NPCs, in that it takes a lot to sway NPC opinion but players tend to be a little more easily swayed. Their characters (YOUR characters) are also more active, having experiences and interactions that the bulk of the populace never will.

In general, if you're unsure of how your PC would respond to something, the NPCs will represent the thematic or general interpretation. You are welcome to take that as how you should react, but you're also free to react however you choose based on the interactions your PC has had. You as a player, and your character as a PC, will also likely be aware that if they choose something that goes against the sentiment of the NPCs, that they would be taking a divergent path from what the norm would be, and we expect will react accordingly.

For example, if the vast majority of NPCs think blood magic is bad, and your PC has interactions that suggest blood magic is okay depending on how it is used - your PC might feel that way and that's fine, but your PC probably won't be putting up a proclamation about how blood magic is A-OK, GUYZ. Your PC would likely proceed with caution!

Anyway, per request that's some clarity on how you can take the story reactions and use NPC reactions to inform your own. Please feel free to ask questions if you are unsure about this.
