Disappearance of the Knights

Posted by Orazio on 03/02/17
To the Faithful of Arx:

As many now know, approximately a hundred Knights of Solace have been abducted or assaulted while keeping the peace in the Lower Burroughs. As of right now, the person or persons responsible is unknown. The Knights of Solace, inspired by the example of Lilah Shay, have, for centuries, been the gods' sheltering hands for the weak, the wounded, the tired, the healer, the pilgrim, and the traveler. They have ever lifted their blades, these valiant men and women, only in the protection of the innocent across the Compact. To harm one Knight of Solace is an offense against the Goddess of Charity, herself. To harm a hundred, unprovoked and unwarranted? The only possible word is abomination. Rest assured, the Faith will not rest until those responsible are found, and held accountable for their actions. However, I have three messages to pass on:

To the innocent of the Lower Burroughs:

Know that the Faith does not hold you responsible, nor will the actions of others sway the Faith from undertaking its divine duty. No charity of Gild will be interrupted, nor will any of the soup kitchens, shelters, or other buildings occupied by the Faith be closed. However, I ask for your help. I ask every man, woman, or child who has ever received a gift of Charity to turn their eyes and ears on the streets, to uncover the perpetrators of this outrage. Speak to friends, neighbors, even strangers. Explore what you can, safely, and if you can do nothing else, I ask you to sing. Sing canticles of Gild, and hymns of her gifts throughout the days and the nights, that the blasphemers know that they will find no shelter among you and no succor from you. Additionally, a reward of ten thousand silver will be offered for information which results in the apprehension of the guilty parties.

To those who may have helped with this crime, through ignorance or coercion:

The mercy of the Faith is extended to you, but redemption begins with repentance. Should you have second thoughts about your actions which may have aided the disappearance of the Knights, come forward, and speak truth to myself, or other representatives of the Faith. The gods understand the weakness of the moment, particularly when it is followed up with sincere submission and honesty. Know, however, that those who stand silent in support of the perpetrators will receive their judgement in full.

To those who directed and are responsible for this offense:

The Sentinel knows who you are, and so will I.

By my hand and authority,
Father Orazio, Legate of Concepts, Shield of the Faith
