Whatever the outcome of the dueling tournament tomorrow, I would like to say that I'm extremely proud of my fealty. From members of House Valardin proper all the way down to one of its counties, we've made a fine showing of the skills of the Oathlands. But it's not just the competitors, it's every person that came to support us. It makes a heart feel good.

Attending the pentathlon competitions has become a regular thing for me. It's not the same as being out in the woods, exploring, but it does offer a bit of excitement and adventure to watch other people competing. I expect, before long, I might mingle among the competitors, but for now I enjoy watching them.
I have been able to establish a few connections during these events, as well, and have been invited to several dinners, and at least one social event. I know I do not typically do well during such events, but... I have determined that perhaps, just maybe, I can use them as a way to further Society business. I should talk to Aislin about this sometime, and likely meet with her to get brought up to date on a great many thing.

A great person to get together with for some good easy going company and drinks from Tor, which she always has in store. Along with this, Joslyn takes all of my teasing and throws it back at me. When I need good company, she is usually at the top of the list of people.

I like archery, it is one of my favorite events to do for competition. I am not the best at it, but it is the one thing that I really like to do as a competitive sport!

Once loosed, there are a thousand things that can influence the trajectory of a shot that you have absolutely no control over. You can only attempt to predict and plan for these things before you let go. And you can only predict and plan for so long before your arm gives out against the weight of the draw. That's in an ideal situation, of course, like practice. In a hunt, or combat, you won't be given even that long, so you'd best draw back the arrow, take aim, throw all your calculations at the wind, and let fly.
In other words, archery is a life or death godsdamned guessing game and it's the ones that are either best at guessing or who are fucking lucky who make it out the other side.
It's my favorite form of gambling, but I won't pretend I'm favored in it.

My assistant, who is ever so helpful, has scoured the city in order to procure me (of his own volition, mind), several different herbal teas of which he claims are medicinal and therefore necessary for me in this, my first true winter. As he explained to me their purposes and ingredients, I could not but wonder at the skill and knowledge of the apothecaries who so blended these herbs together. For example, this one is a mixture of elderberry, echinacea, calendula, rose hips, orange peel, ginger root, and cinnamon. It will supposedly ward off any ill humors. An understandable concern, of course. In fact, the accumulation of warm clothes, 'proper' winter footwear and thick gloves is completely appreciated. My estimation of what would be enough to keep me from being chilled prior to departing the Lyceum has been proven laughably naive. So again, my dear assistant, thank you.
There have been some other, less noteworthy measures taken to protect my health as well. It had been shared with me that, sometimes, a peculiar wind cuts up from the south that is particularly cold. I don't pretend to understand that, but it came from an authority on the matter. Which isn't to say one should not question. That is, after all, how we learn.

House Malvici has always been known for its strong military and keen tactical execution. My ancestors were clever warriors and on through the generations down to my cousins and I today. I couldn't be more proud of what our House has become.

Baron Silas, Prince Aiden, Lord Estaban, Princess Lou and Prince Luca all went on the patrols I sent out. I am glad that they did. From what I hearing back, it seems that there is much danger in the wood sand it is very good thing they went. Thank you all for going.

Duke Harald is holding a mock sea battle and House Grayson will be there!
I am taking out a ship, some of soldiers, the nobles and the commoners from our ward who I can convince to come.
We need to practice sea battles. I wrote lots of people about possibly joining, but if I forgot to ask someone who wants to come, just ask.

I was second place in the race. Fast, but not quite fast enough to outrun Duke Cristoph. He is very speedy!
I was first place in the swimming race, but Dame Esoka almost beat me and Dame Alexis wasn't far behind her. They are mermaid knights.
Tristan won the horse race, which is not a big surprise. Horses probably love him the best.
The best part of placing so well was victory over my husband. It is fun to win competitions against Luca. I do care about him, but I still want to win.
The duel is coming up. I hope to place higher than Luca. We will have to place bets.
