Everything's going to shit at home, Bringers and dead forest closer and closer every day. So, I thought I'd come to Arx, where at least I'll be there to disapprove in person of decisions being made about my life or death as the case may be.
Arx is the same as ever, and so is Aldwin. I ran into the Archscholar in the Grotto, and promised him I'd finish that treatise on the history of the game. I might as well. The Archive's right here, and won't have to wait for scribes and messengers.
Everyone else is so fucking young. I think that's what being an old woman's about, ointment and being surrounded by babies.
I shouldn't judge, I was already very competent at their age. We'll see.

If I'm being completely honest, I would like very much to learn everything I possibly can from them. But I would also like to see how exactly they react to extreme pain. Perhaps both can one day be accomplished.

Still no pots or pans but I've seen quite a few people in the city so far between the commons and the training grounds. The Valorous Few are interesting so far, I can understand why Julea runs with them. Speaking of Julea, she set met up with my own rooms on the ground level. It was nice of her but I'd best start earning my keep, which means pots and pans.

This sweltering city is still unbearable. I doubt my armour is required in the streets even with the fighting happening in the forests with the bringers. Silks have been mentioned as an alternative but I'm hardly interested in something so fine when it serves no purpose. Surely another fabric will do, regardless we will see... Soon I hope.

The Princess Valencia is as the rumors said. I can see the hints of a northern woman in her, but she is very much the 'southern star'. I can only hope my brothers do not take after here, no matter how pleasant she may be we are of the north and need to return once the dangers we're facing are vanquished.

I wish I could say something that would ease her suffering. To know such loss is an invisible wound though it bleeds no less and leaves scars behind like any other. It is in these moments that we are changed as people, these moments in which we see the world for what it really is and understand that monsters do not only lurk in the deep of woods and darkness but sometimes are wrapped in smiles and shake our hands first. I have nothing but faith that the Lady Bianca will emerge from her storm a stronger and more determined woman than she was before, and then I suggest everyone take a step back and make room.

And have I mentioned he likes food? A few months back I noticed a change in our House chef's menu and cooking style. I thought nothing of it at the time but now I begin to suspect that Ferrando sneaks in and pecks at them relentlessly until they give into his demands. I'm not sure which I would fear more, seeing the man with a sword in his hand, or seeing him with a fork in his hand.

The Lady General have proven herself a stalwart commander in the field, and one willing to see to the interest of the Crown and the Compact before others. A desireable trait which puts her above many others in my esteem.

I've been sitting on a pile of things I said I had to write down, and seeing as I'm supposed to be getting bedrest after the beating I took at the melee, I can at least put them here. Most of them aren't important to write down, so I won't. This isn't in the right order. I don't think that matters much.
I saw the elves. I didn't get a proper look, but there they were. I thought they'd look more unnatural, and that would have been good. Put a hat covering the ears on these and they could almost look like regular folk, but maybe not so much if you're closer and in the dark. Didn't bring the cat to see if she'd hiss at them, but seeing as she's small maybe that wouldn't work. I hope the swords and all aren't a trap.
Went to that Common Council they had. I got there late, so I didn't catch it all, but the Captain-General said some clever things from what I understand, and that's good. I've had some other offers of work, but I don't know if I should pledge my loyalties. A noble house might put me in finer silks, but what if they like one color and I another? Then I'm stuck, aren't I? And what goes for color goes for the rest.
Got that coin from the Scholars, properly, and paid for training from the winner of the melee herself, Mistress Zhayla, so I reckon that's silver well spent. I've also done some training myself. Never too keen on that before, but I just acted like my first sergeant at the old company, but not such a rat bastard, if you pardon. But for a painter this fellow took well to learning. Hope he hasn't got to use it, but if it does I hope it serves him well. I didn't ask him to pay, as that way I think I got my debt to Vellichor squared off.
Didn't win the melee at the combat exposition but then I didn't think I would. Thought I might do better, but that was thinking my step longer than my legs. Didn't count on the mess it was, I suppose, and I'd wager some folk I know would've smacked me on the head for taking on Prince Anze first thing while Lord Ansel and all manner of other folk decided I'd make a good dummy. A proper tactical blunder, that.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but I need to get out of bed. Everything else is fine as can be.

What a few weeks it's been..seriously, I can't even figure out where to start with all of this. Dawn's alive. That much at least is great, and as I write this there is news that the armies have overrun the Iron Guard traitors and ground them up for dogmeat. But at the same time, mysterious deaths in the city, and so little organization is happening. I'm due to set out on tour of Ashford, collecting the troops and getting them organized, establishing a command structure. I don't want to strip away the forests protection though..I'll have to consider how to go about this.
The city is awash in information, but everyone hoards and collects it, when we must begin to share it and put the pieces together soon or we will all be lost to the darkness. I cannot even think of how to best express this, how to try and bring it about. All I know for certain is that if we do not come together more effectively, then we are certainly doomed.
