I spent a very enjoyable evening with the Whitehawks, and laughed quite a bit. I highly recommend attending gatherings hosted by them when the next one comes along -- though if you attempt to outpun Lady Evonleigh, you might be disappointed.

My uncle, the Baron Norwood Clement, has wed Baroness-Consort Margerie Keaton. One of the finest events of my life and I am so grateful to have been allowed to be there. To see it. To be welcomed into this new and forming family. Thank you uncle.

I don't think that I have ever had so much laughter in an evening than I did tonight on Silas's ship with my family around me. The jokes, puns, poor (and in Evonleigh's case AMAZING) acting.. heavens. It was everything I could have wanted, and perfect among the seriousness of the trouble at the Lodge.

I have the best family in the world, and Whitehawk the best allies. My especial thanks to Harper Ashford, Prince Alistair Grayson, Count Thesarin Rivan, Sparte Fatchforth for coming and sharing this with us.

I've taken on several new students. I say "students", though these are hardly school children. Duchesses and Counts and Lords and Ladies of all manner. It is quite a delight, and I remain pleased with my choice to be here, in Arx, as a Whisper. All the while I continue to work for His Majesty - planning for the Tournament of Roses continues, albeit slowly. I am hoping to announce more in the coming weeks.

As a reminder to any that may read this, I am serving as Royal Events Coordinator. If anyone has any ideas for events they wish the Crown to sponsor, please contact me.

That, was far more painful a thing that I have experienced and while I am not desirous of doing so again, were there children involved I would. I am assured that I shall walk, that so long as I remain off of it, it will heal well enough but that I shall require a cane should I walk greater distance than across the floor of my house or shop.

TO which, I am indulging in my senses and working on a cane. Demetria even went out to secure some Alaricite for me for the core of it and I have been busy at my bench with my feet up and working at the filigree tube that will surround it. Gems, so many. It concerns me that it might not quite sound harmonious, but we shall see. I have been very careful in where things sit.

Till then, from my chair and couch I sit and think of the lovely things that I will make when I can stand properly at my forge without the assistance of my children.

Learning new skills does not usually come to me as easily as it does to some. I get bored reading books and hearing lectures, even in the entertaining way that Rook can manage to do so, makes me want to claw my own eyes out. Yet, learning how to haggle has been delightfully fun. Joining Rook at the market, talking with the buyers and sellers there... it's really been enjoyable. Of course, I usually end up spending more money than I manage to make, but I can't help it if seeing all that silk and all those gems gives me a thousand ideas for pretty things to wear!

Relationship Note on Ilinca

From our first meeting in Iasu, when I was trying to convince her family as to the virtues of once again joining the Compact, I've quite liked Ilinca. She seems refreshingly forthright, yet not in a way that seems to be judging those around her for not being so. It's a very Lycene way of being an honest person without being an asshole about it.

Now that I no longer feel dizzy every time I stand up, it seems life is slightly more bearable and I can get back to work. There is always more work to get back to, whether it is in the office, in the lab, or elsewhere in the city. Sometimes, I think my hands are permanently curved into shape around a quill.

Who conceived of its design and decided to put it in Arx?

Why do we have a clock tower?

How did they get enough platinum?

Why does no one remember the tower's construction?

I met Harper and Magpie's adopted boy, Pie, today. He seems a fine lad. Sturdy and sweet and interested in books, which usually suggests a mind that works. They've asked me to be his godmother, a great honor, and I've decided to accept. He's not old enough to start on hitting things, really, but there are other important lessons I can teach him. I think we'll start with fishing.
