I'm an uncle! Twice! Twins..go figure. I'm so excited for Cara and Laric, and can't wait to get to know my little nieces when they start being old enough to help cause trouble. I'll have to properly educate them in creative Ashfordism!
It does present a problem, I had intended to leave Hawk's Talon to my niece or nephew..but..now I have two, but only one sword since Bringer of Dawn I think should stay within the Ashford family..so I think I need to find a new sword to leave behind to the second. Maybe a mace or axe, I've always wanted to learn to fight with a mace or axe..

It's not often that I'm given such time to reflect. This week has been so busy I hardly had time to think. Between abandoned wearing human armor, feral men and women leaping out of the bushes, chanting these two words that I don't know but will never forget... the limbs arranged in some kind of pattern... It was just horrible.
When that should be enough, than I'm called upon to assist in the apprehension of an attempted assassin, his fellows proved worthy adversaries, but Alis is safe for now, if only we can figure out just who is behind this all. After all this, what's on my mind? A woman. Gods help me but I am such a fool.

I died valiantly defending the honor of Mister Felix today.
The fair Nicia was a better opponent than I and managed to dislodge me from his shoulder and into the pool.
Overall, a very fun birthday party to attend!

Relationship Note on Merida
A rather fiery and passionate soul. She has all the bearings of one who roamed the seas as a pirate, but she has a heart with her, despite seeking thrill in fighting and slaying foes. We entered a good spar, to which we called a draw due to both of us being called away to perform our duties. After a small moment of deep discussion, we eventually decided a conversation over a nice drink to be held.

I am beginning to practice my swordplay more and more. I want to be the warrior my family needs and can rely on in anything. I do not wish to simply rest my laurels simply because a some demon named 'Brand' is dead and a siege is done. I will continue serving my hardest, that's for certain.

A very kind and friendly soul. After mere moments of meeting this kindred spirit, we became very fast friends. I do so much enjoy her company, and it is a blessing that my new friend serves with the Blackwoods. I cannot wait to see the future that she will certainly set for herself.

What an incredibly busy day. At least I feel it was productive, educational, and entertaining. All told that is the best anyone can really hope for in a day. I am dreading learning the lance and spear on horseback, but proud too. We don't joust on ships-though perhaps on rafts that could prove amusing-if modified to ensure no one drowns!

The Mother Mercy, my cousin, Princess Sophie spoke in my court today of the plight of those inflicted with Soldier's Heart. Those that have been through horrible experiences of war, or really any terrifying stressful situation. I know many suffer of this, and even though it is not something we have always had a name for. We just finished a war where many had to face things they did not believe could be real and were not ready to face. Hell it was a war that I don't think we could have been ready to face.
Let us not forget that wounds run deep and remember kindness for our friends and families, and even strangers. I know it is something that I have not always been as good at as I should be. And I will strive to do better.

So I have taken upon me the task of training a new squire.
Squire Serid Iron Foot. He is adjusting to his new life well. He shows great talent at hitting things with sticks, and he's a born survivor.
However he keeps trying to get away from me so he can hunt the Greenmarch War Elks. He tells me 'I'll thank him come winter.' We're still working on setting boundaries.

Lady Olivia and Lady Khanne have both been of great help in my work to look into the forest and the damage caused by Brand's lingering there. I spoke with Lady Olivia for some time, tutoring her in the practices of agriculture, and I was pleased to find out she has a natural talent for the field. I hope to nurture this; it is good to find others with respect and ties to the land amongst the Compact

I've never seen anyone wield shovels as incompetently as those who turned out to plant saplings to give thanks for the war's end and to remember what occurred, and look forward to the future.
It was a joy to watch various nobles try to understand a mechanism quite different to a blade, and to interact with the land. They took instruction fairly well, though Archlector Aureth still found the idea of creating a hole difficult to grasp. The event was quite a success, though one of the nobility felt so inspired by events she gave birth.
I trust this is not a common occurrence at religious festivals.

On this day, we are safely delivered of two healthy baby girls -- Petra and Kieri Grayson.
They were born in a forest glade during an event honoring Petrichor and the Queen of Endings, in hope for new life and rebirth.

And so it is summertime again. I'm just glad I had the opportunity to breathe in some fresh Farhaven mountain air before experiencing another one of Arx's sweltering summers. I think I miss my home most during this time of the year.

I always forget how much I love the summer until it comes around again. Not quite a Southport summer this far up north, but its nice enjoy a cool drink on a warm day. For unrelated reasons, I am very much looking forward to the end of this particular summer though.
