It was only meant to be a couple of weeks that I was out of Arx, and yet I left in the summer and return to find Winter has settled over the city. Much has happened, there is much to catch up on.

The journey was largely uneventful, so far as dangers go, and the company on the road the best one might hope for. The only trouble we found there or back was the persistance of a small, furry thief who was only dissuaded from the packs when we made camps with bribes of jerky. Extorted by a wild thing.

As a matter of my devotion to Our Lady of Change and my duty as a Dragon of the West, the concept of noblesse oblige is one dear to my heart, and one that I strive to uphold in every way. My work as a Mercy makes me no stranger to the Lower Boroughs. As a Valardin, I am blessed to have the means to regularly offer succor those less privileged. Yet I am only one woman, and my House only one House, so I am most heartened and grateful for those who saw fit to share some of their riches, last night, with those who are less fortunate. It is my hope that more will come forward, and for more than a handful of occasions.

To Lord Propsero Fidante, I thank you for your gifts of small medicines and teas. I know first-hand how precious such things are in such places, and I extend my gratitude for your continued service to the orphans of the Lower Boroughs.

To Lady Juliet Fidante, I thank you for the bounty of firewood that warms hearths and hearts.

To Lord Eos Saik, I thank you for your gifts of southern cured meats, the assortment of winter root vegetables, the crates of jarred fruits, and the remedies for common winter ailments. These are hearty, nourishing things that are good for both the body and spirit, and I know they have heartened their recipients.

To Prince Darren Redrain, Highlord of the Northlands, I thank you for your most pragmatic gift of furs fashioned into durable and warm clothing to stave off winter's chill. I also relay the gratitude of several fellows who appreciated your spirit lifting barrel of spirits.

To Princess Donella Thrax, Voice of her House, I thank you for rallying our privileged peers to lend aid to those so often overlooked. I am certain that Queen Genevieve would be proud.

Finally, to all others, please accept my apologies if you were somehow overlooked, and please know that you have my gratitude, as well as that of those you have helped.

Thank you, and may the Gods bless us all.

I had such a fun time at the charity event last evening! I met so many people. I was glad that my cousin Natalia introduced me to the other nobles. I'll be wearing the beautiful gown that she designed for me at her event tonight. And now that I know so many others, I can better make sure that the event is flawless!

How lovely to see how much the nobles of this land care about the little people. They trudged all the way into the mire and muck to offer the less fortunate food, medicine, and candy.

I suppose actual respect is a bit more difficult for the blessed of this land to offer their lessers.

I will admit to being somewhat impressed with the Voice of Thrax. I'm not sure if she understood but she matched a selfless gesture with one of her own.

Relationship Note on Lukas

A guard in service of Redrain, from the village of Eoid's Field. I remember the place being very small and just a ways east of Farhaven. The man doesn't have family that he spoke of and seems content with his service as a guard at the villa, but something tells me in his younger years he tried for something more - or had it already. Weapon preference: Sword.

You little missy, it's easy to call to be the rain when you are on top. It's easy to fall over people, when you reign.

When your lives and your livelihood depend on the people above you, it isn't so easy. It isn't so easy to walk into a ward and not know what may happen to you. It isn't /easy/.

Don't pull this bullshit on us. Do not piss on us and tell us it is raining.

Crafters and commoners matter too.

As we end this week, I thought I would record my thoughts on the turn events have taken. These thoughts run a simple course, but it is a course that a lifetime of conflict and loss has led me to.

Our actions determine the world around us. We paint our lives with the colours of our own choices, and being able to do a thing is not always enough justification to act.

Acting before every angle is considered invites larger ripples than we intended. Suddenly, a choice made and an action taken against one person becomes fuel for choices and actions made by twenty, and from those twenty on to a hundred. In days such as these, when the fears of an entire city simmer under the provocation of this year's events, do we want to be the brushfire or do we want to be the rain? It is often the harder choice to be the one who deescalates. But where fire might touch and burn several, the rain touches so many more.

Save your fire for those who truly deserve it. There are challenges arrayed against Arx and Arvum, against city and Compact, that we will have to meet as a people united. All of us are needed and we must turn outward, together, rather than scour ourselves from the inside. Let us not do the work of our enemies for them.

I am not going to raise from the bed today.

It's cold and I am feeling under the weather.

Vidar seems to be upset. He is very quiet. He does not leave my bed. I am worried about him too.

Apparently Princess Natalia is literate.

She found my previous entry in the stacks and made her displeasure known. I did say she's not as vapid she seems. She wants my help with some Jaysus festival. I honor the gods, but this is womens work and I need to see what my resources and house needs are before I commit to helping a pissed off perfumed princess. I will have to consult with my factors then get back to her.

I engaged this evening with Prince Valarius of the Thrax, and I confess... unless my meeting with Donella goes FANTASTICALLY well, I am concerned for the direction my liege house is taking. How have the Thrax gotten so soft? Does the mainland infect a sailors soul and make him into a fop? If this is so, I will set sail immediately and this cities politics -be damned-. Valarius is not irredeemable, but he seems so content to sip his sweet wines and gossip with women.

I am going to drag him to sea and combat, and put hair on his goddamn balls.

I swear it.

I didn't attend the nobels' event held by Thrax, for obvious reasons. But I heard of a few things that transpired and I'll admit to being shocked; I didn't expect ...

I've been shown so much unexpected kindness the many hours hence, from every corner of the city. I am humbled, and I am grateful.

I went to the graveyard last night.

I found no answers. I don't know what I was expecting. I don't even know which questions I was asking. Explosions? The questions of life and death and the delicate veil between?

I only know that I--enjoy graveyards. Sylvie thinks me mad, I know. It is--well, sometimes they are peaceful, yes. It is peaceful where no one can speak, when the souls that rest beside you, rest in companionable silence. But sometimes there is a stillness to them that goes beyond peace. It's an electric hesitation, a pause, as something waits...something lurks...something is almost, but not quite there.

And that something prickles at my skin.

Perhaps I should make this a poem.

My cousin designed the most beautiful yellow gown for me! I am thankful to have the City's fashionista as my cousin. I am most excited to wear it at her party. It is so lovely, that I am already thinking of what other new gown I must purchase... For one is NEVER enough.

I don't know what to tell you, scholar. Word of mouth might travel better than these written words but I am surely not the one to tell them to you.

Alright fine, ask your question.

Well yes, of course I'm going to the Grayson gala. That's a ridiculous question. I had my braid hacked off, not my sense of pride. Honestly.

Shopping trip two well sort of three.

Laric liked his outfit and I was pleased that others asked me to help design theirs. I do hope that they like them.

It is sometimes hard to shop for other people. Sabella wanted yellow. It occurs to me that I do not have a yellow outfit. Perhaps I should change this. The other one I spent more time picking just the right colors. I do hope she likes it.

I know that people find me rather vapid about such things, but if you make a person feel good about themselves. They remember.
