Relationship Note on Darren

It has been a while since I've seen Darren, but he is a good enough guy still. Some cannot look past the fact I was not here when their uncle/father/friend was killed when Sherrod was with the King. If Darren is one such, he at least doesn't make it common knowledge he holds bad feelings towards me. I'll have to take him for some drinks and find out what his plans are while here in the city.

Relationship Note on Gareth

I had royalty in my shop today. This isn't that unusual with Lady Dawn make her appearances as she does. But point of fact, it was her cousin that came by, the Lord-Prince Gareth of Grayson.

What we discussed was between us, but I must confess to being incredibly charmed by him. I've been told of his scars and his appearance, and .... I have to say, it makes him appear quite dashing.

I do accept, however, that my taste in aesthetics is strange and unusual and often weird, even in the things I create. I'm quite alright with this.

And ... I think he was flirting? Or perhaps just being friendly.

Also the man commands language like-

I tried my hand at besting Prince Fergus in a spar today. I may have gotten better at hurting him and making him sweat like a pig, but he still bested me with ease. I need to get better.

I dislike his fondness for clobbering me in the head. I had a headache all morning!

Lady Dawn sent me a message thanking me for my presence at the Grayson gathering the other night, and for offering her my advice. She gifted me an elegant oathlands sword - one of similar design to the one Prince Fergus wielded against me. I'm not quite sure what to do with it yet! But if I should ever be in need of two, I will have little to worry about.

I'm not sure what lies ahead, but I will do what I can to help her through it.

Relationship Note on Anastasio

It happens to us all, at one time or another; getting injured during our trade. Usually I can bandage myself well enough to continue on with my work, but sometimes I get a burn in one of those places that needs more than my meager skills can aide. I had heard word of a healer offering his services and such, so sent word. Luckily, Master Anastasio happened to be near the markets and able to come attend the annoying burn that kept me from working further. He comes from the Oathlands, his accent still there even after a couple of years here in Arx. There's a story there, I suspect, though must admit his claim of a donkey that wouldn't stop was definitely amusing. He left my some salves and it's my hope not to have to call him to work again, but good to know if I did, he's quite good at his trade.

And? He barely flinched when Mistress Joscelin came in to steal my hammer and, just as abruptly, left. Points for that, certainly.

I'm sure the fight would have lasted longer if I'd brought all of my armor. All the same; he's quite skilled, but that's something I expected. You don't become a Sword without skill.

Likes to stir the pot, though.

That went well, I think. Discussion, debate, revelation, and the joy of having so many of my family around me. The mansion is bursting at the seams and feels almost like Bastion did, where I was happiest. Where I could concentrate on doing the best I'm capable of for the Graysons.

When Alaric awakens, perhaps I'll return there.

But for now, I am here and content. We might differ in opinion but the care and respect we all hold for each other was very much on display when we met. My family and their supporters have again proven our words true: None Greater Than Grayson.

Another happy piece of news. I had to leave Bastion in a rush and with it, my poor faithful hound Macdon. But my kennelmaster knew I would suffer without the diversion of the packs to provide (very loud) moments away from my work. He loaded the best bitches and dogs, including my Macdon, and has brought them here where another kennel will be established at the mansion.

I am not too proud to record here for the public eye that when Macdon saw me, he was so excited that he forgot himself and knocked me to the ground where I was stepped on, whipped with his tail and subjected to rabid licking that left my face and hair covered with drool. I remember when he was whelped, I could hold him in my hands. Now, while I was away from him, he has reached his full growth and he rises taller than me when his paws are on my shoulders. I am not a small woman but my fierce, scruffy hound makes me feel so. Especially when he tries to curl in my lap as he used to do while still a puppy.

I can be truly fearless with Macdon at my side again. Though also slightly more bedraggled.

Perhaps it is the wine but I can't help but to recall a time in my past when I was not captain or in charge of men and their ships. I was too small and scrawny to work on the deck and if you did not work, you did not eat. Stealing was too dangerous. If you were caught, they toss you off the ship and into the sharks. It was the quartermaster who suggested I go after the rats in the ship. I did not have the credit for a knife so for the first couple months it was with my bare hands that I found enough silver to buy a knife. It was a splendid little piece of metal that once belong to the ship's barber who caught a case of the scurvy and died. It was rusted from many years of no use but the quartermaster, a man with a soft heart, gave me some supplies to make her the sharpest blade. In exchange I was to cut the hair off his face. In a matter of days, I went from stalking the bowels of the ship for rats to being the ship's barber. My skills did not go unnoticed, soon captains and their officers invited me to their staterooms and bridges. The close proximity to captains and officers of merit allowed me to learn from the best until eventually I learned how to become a captain of my own ship, by cutting throats...

Still, I think about how would my life have been if I had settled for the humble profession of a barber. I wonder if I stuck with brewing my own potions, perfumes, and cologne if that would have been my true path. Maybe I should look into it.

It is not often that so many Graysons and Grayson loyalists are able to come together in one place, and for that I am thankful to cousin Dawn for her organisational skill in making such an event possible.

I am hesitant to describe the events themselves, however. There are many layers to things that happened, as well there might be with so many ambitious personages in company. The most important, of course, was that there was good food and wine to sate the appetites of the hungry, and there was just a little bit of intrigue to sate the appetites of the ludicrous.

I fear, however, that the rabid loyalty to our dear Lady Dawn displayed by those present will become a detriment overlong if we do not see some signs of action to back up those words.

Time will tell, I suppose. Though I don't doubt that those words have been the death of many a patient man.

Well that was enlightening. The steak was splendid, too.

When I left the manor I was accosted by a messenger with another large order for my shop. This one seems like it will be fun, though, much like Prince Edain's beloved table. Enough details to give me a direction on where to go, but enough leeway to express my own creativity. Challenge accepted.

The Sword of Lenosia is quite formidable with, well, a sword. I've seen him in action multiple times, and had the delightful opportunity to witness his skill up and close during the Grayson melee. It's not uncommon to see him accompanying a member of the Velenosa family out to various gatherings. Funny, quick witted, it's always a welcome sight to see him around.

The meeting with House Grayson and its allies did not go as well as I hoped; there is dissent and too much cleverness but not enough focus.

Such things must be refined. Large groups are not ideal to discuss policies where opinions are flung like arrows in search for a target, any target, and spoken as much to be seen as speaking as to aim.

There is work to be done. I must not be distracted.

Today...
What is there to say about today?
The morning started off normal enough. Then after a healthy stroll, I was able to procure an item that i had had my eye on for a few days. While it wasn't anything uniquely special, it was just what I wanted. For the most part today has been a very good day.
Tomorrow will bring yet another good day, I'm sure.

Relationship Note on Ida

I've observed Ida use this beautiful planishing hammer to smooth out the surface of her more intricate pieces, specifically hairpins, an item she makes that I would love to learn to use and wear myself.

She's been out and about for most of the week, and it's no fun stealing things from her when she isn't around.

So I did. Today.

It's a very pretty hammer. I polished before I used it because Ida uses steel and the peen was all dented and gouged. It's as smooth as silk now, and as shiny as a new mirror.

And all mine. It sits on my pillow, gleaming, as I write this.

I think I'm going to name it 'Ida-no'.
