Relationship Note on Joslyn

Sparring her has the same impact as wrangling a pissed off cat into a cold bath. I appreciate the attitude she carries aside those little needles of hers, though.

Personal note: Prefers women-- we're basically best friends already.

Relationship Note on Marian

Lady Marian came to visit the garden today.
And she liked my Summer tea.
(I was hoping to have sold more by now, though...)

We were talking about stories. About how to answer.
And about stuffed animals too...

If it's any consolation I still use you as a threat when you and Princess Marian are visiting.

The Folly of Bliss Whisper

I was feeling fine on my way back from Whitehold, my victory against Ringar the Red and my time with a grateful patron had left me with no shortage of warm tinglies. The journey had been just what I needed to forget the sting of mortality. What the fuck else do you do when your enemy had the temerity to die at someone else’s hands? I need time for me, and the dueling circuit had offered. And when it made good on its offer to refocus my life, I set my horse south again.

Things were fine until closer to Arx. I spent more than my fair share of coin at many a tavern and inn and my purse was feeling light once more. But my flask was still full and my boisterous singing of Gloria was a thing of legend. I like to think that my dulcet tones were what drew Their attention.

You see, beloved reader, darling fan… it so happened at I was beset and surrounded by dark creatures one evening as I made my camp. They took me unawares, two dozen of them in the darkest of black leathers. Two dozen with the wickedest of weapons.

Stepping into the ring of my firelight a tall, pale-haired and dark-skinned elf leered at me. “Riddle me this, most beautiful of human women: To survive this Folly you must agree, the risks you accept all on your own; one thing you can give me, and after giving must keep.”

I smirked. “My word.”

And that was all it took to bring me into the greatest challenge of my life so far (other than breathing in an Oathlands corset). From sundown to sunrise I had to fight them. They chased me through the forest like some beast to be hunted. They clapped like I were a trained dog when their traps I avoided. When a test was passed a riddle was given, and once or twice I had to think. It was in steel I wrote my name – one of theirs shall forever bear a kiss of bliss from my Rapier instead of my lips.

At the end I had laughed at their challenges, defeated their champions, tied the tongues of their Riddlemasters, and been declared the winner of a Folly.

Why do I tell you this, gentle reader?

Beause my fanclub is coming to Arx with their embassy. If you see a pack of Nox’alfar vying for my attention, know it is in adoration and not cruelty that they seek me. Make them buy you a drink and then teach them to send a letter to Whisper House.

I sometimes wonder if the gods and archfiends watch in bewilderment as we do a terrific job ourselves in making the world a far more difficult place to be in.

Relationship Note on Alis

My sister Ali's is the Champion of the West. Who I look to to hold up the example of what a Dragon of the Oathlands should aspire to be. And so while Sir Roland is on a long journey, a quest that he knows in his heart he must complete. The Sword of Sanctum he remains but until he returns I have asked Princess Ali's to carry Oathbinder.

My sister is more than just an exemplar of knightly ideal, she is also a brilliant general. And a skilled general needs not one superb warhorse as Sir Draco is, but they need several so a fresh one is always ready.

And so I have given the reigns of Sir Arugula over to they Champion of the West. May he and Draco both carry you to victory in the battles to come.

Day 11

I went by the Society of Explorers HQ recently, very nice. I look forward to the little audition/trial that I'll go through to join. Lady Aislin is quite nice, and was happy to provide a quick tour before I had to run. I met two Igniseri while I was there, as well. Both of which I ran into then at the Golden Hart, and ran into Lady Aislin's brother.

Such things just show that despite how vast the city feels at times, it is really smaller than imagined.

I volunteered for that street fair thing, as well. I'm still waiting to see if my suggestion of a booth was well received, or if it will be rejected. I'm hoping that it'll be agreed to, although after a conversation with someone I now wonder at the wisdom of my suggestion. Oh well! Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

She doesn't talk much, but she is one hell of a fighter. She gave me a compliment after I beat her in the sunday night spars at The Golden Hart. At least I think it was a compliment? She said two words in my direction and they sounded complimentary, I'll take what I can get. Maybe one day I'll find out what it takes to maintain a conversation with her.

I've heard a fair few stories about the Brothers Kennex, some more embellished than others. None of them -- not even the more fanciful ones -- included warning that one of them is a giant. I feel this is not a point that should be overlooked.

The week has passed, I should not say uneventfully, but without great personal trouble. Attending an evening with the Graysons, things were pleasant enough... were there not an attack upon the King, albeit after I had departed. It does cause a certain chill, to imagine danger so close! Otherwise, I continue my work, including some experiments with the new flower that I hope may prove fruitful.
