Ah, the carnival was such a joy to attend! I don't often spend time at the larger social events, perhaps obviously, but I certainly could not miss one thrown by a princess of House Valardin. Truly, I had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed speaking with old friends as well as new people that hopefully will be future friends. I hope the weapons I made for the event are well received, especially after seeing the stunning contributions so many people gave! Princess Katarina's vision truly came to life and so beautifully. I didn't get to speak to as many as I had hoped, nor linger as long as I might have wished, but the time that I was there was genuinely fantastic. I'm very glad I went!

It's been an exceedingly productive week for me, which is good. And I look forward to truly getting back into the swing of things, so to speak. I'm also excited about upcoming projects, though... Well. I'll save that matter for when it is done.

I cannot say enough how grateful I am for my cousin's diligent work for Whitehold. There could not have been a better representation of our House in the city, nor one who would work as tirelessly for the Compact and the North. While I was off on my own search, I knew that the Voice of Halfshav would be better served with Khanne's. The Lady Eirlys was brought to Keaton Hall last night, and thankfully I was able to help her. Learning the healing arts has been one of the best decisions of my life. I am so thankful that I am able to bring some relief to those who are hurting, and am able to fix what has been hurt. I thank the gods for the gifts I have been given in my steady hands and ability to recall things clearly at will. I hope that Lady Eirlys recovers quickly, I know that she is eager to go about her duties as Speaker for the new Princess.

What the Abyss do you do to fight a spreading ink-stain in the ocean? Kill the source? All I'm imagining is a giant, ancient squid with the worst case of the runs the Gods have ever seen. If putting it out of its misery will keep it from getting worse, well-

A week of revelations. I always prided myself on living my life openly, and on not having use for the black journals. My confessions were told in plain view. I can acknowledge when I mess up. I hold no deep secrets in my heart.

While there will certainly be tribes that don't join up, I highly doubt the reason will be because they don't see the threat. It's possible, of course, but it's hard to survive long out there in any capacity if you ignore something like the growing strength of a warlord, let alone one as unique and blatantly dangerous as this. And while his danger has been something relatively newly known to the Compact, for reasons largely beyond your control, the Abandoned have been contending with the reality of his growing reach for decades. Not in this area, sure, but stories and rumors spread as fast as refugees. Even those who haven't heard of him will remember Brand's mark; you won't find many, if any, that won't take the matter seriously. The real problem is if they consider the Compact the greater threat to their lives. Convincing them that's not true will be the real task. Proving it's not true might be damn near impossible in the long run. We'll see.

The Faith is happy to help this mission to the Gray Forest - the Templars are happy to help - but I worry about the consequences and whether people will feel as good after. Once we have spoken to the tribes of the Abandoned, once we have convinced all who can be to join with us, once all that is left are those working for our enemies or those who do not see them as a threat and so will soon fall....
These problems are for after the mission, but we will need to consider how we approach the Abandoned who remain after.
