Being a Hero is not a easy job, it means you go through a lot and do a lot to save a lot. But being a Hero is not a compition, it is not a prize to be won. Many call me a Hero of the Siege of Silence because I saved Prince Aiden Graysons life. I have been given many medals and awards for it, does it make me feel any different? In a way yes, I still have a hard time wanting to except them I some times hide them because I feel I should not have been given them because I did what I thought was the right thing not because I wanted to show off or show that I could do it. I almost died, I was l aid up for weeks.
So being a Hero? there is more to it then trying to out due someone else or to be the best sword fighter or Archer, there is a understanding to it. To know that we are just like everyone else we do what we must to keep those we love and know safe from danger at any coast even if that means our lives. To be a Hero means being true to yourself to understand and to know that even with the good of being a Hero there is the bad as well.
I hope you read this and understand these words for it is how I live and how I protect and honor all.

People accept that my brother is rash. They've seen his temper, I've bared it myself - rightfully earned. He is a combative spirit, he is the Paladin of Gloria, he needs all that fire burning inside to do what he needs to do. They like him and love him for it. Or maybe they don't. But they understand him and get him for it.

When it comes to me on the other hand, maybe they don't understand me and it makes it harder to accept an intent to defend myself when for so long, I never knew how. I know I'm not a warrior, in the traditional sense. I've had to face a lot of things in the past seven months that I've never had to face before. I'm still discovering how to best handle it, because before Arx, I had birds. They seemed to me, my only true friends in the world.

I've always been the odd one out in the family, and it's been hard to accept that. I grew up without true friends, and I am not speaking of cousins and kin who are blood, but friends... people without the shared name. Instead, my friends were of the feathered variety.

So when I made friends in Arx, it was a first for me. It meant the world to me that people from all walks of life, would consider me a person of merit to behold a friendship with - not because of my title, but because of me. Who I was.

The Radiant Selene was one of the first to greet me in the city and welcome me in. And every friendship or acquaintance after that, has been just as important to me. But sometimes, I forget, people aren't birds - they aren't so simple to understand. And still, I think many people assume a Grayson Prince comes with armloads of friends in tow and knows how to appropriately grow and foster those friendships.

That was never true for me.

I have been growing so much since my first step into the city. Every friendship I've held dear has meant the world to me. When Merek Black presented me a turtledove statue he crafted himself, I was so touched I strived hard to repay his kindness, supported him at every juncture for every task he sent missives to me about. I brought him a pie and wine one day at his shop. I remember that instance and it brings a smile to my face to think we shared a quiet moment as friends. So it was a great shock to hear him declare that I wished to cause a massacre over land claims.

My reactions, in condemning him, were again from the struggle inside with gaining recognition with Limerance, and my pain for feeling the rupture of trust and the dismantling of friendship before me. Misrepresented, I felt betrayed. Apparently I cannot cram a lifetime of learning how to be a friend into eleven months in Arx.

Though just because I lose a few feathers in trying to fledge out of a sheltered childhood, doesn't mean that I still cannot fly and reach a better me.

Grant me time to prove I can learn to fly after tumbling to the ground after my attempts. I'm sure most have tripped up one or twice in their life. I am just like you.

And Merek, I appreciate your apology - it was never about social class. My closest friends and my present lover, came from the same walks of life that you have. I do not hate you and we all must live by the choices we make.

Meeting new people is interesting, and meeting these especially so. The ARRG organization, of which was unfamiliar, did not relate at all to the 'arrgh' sound one makes on hearing some puns or not-very-good actors make when faking death. Instead it is a very worthy organization with charitable goals. It was quite inspiring to hear of the ARRG plans, so much so that I found myself volunteering to assist them.

To the Faithful reader:

It is important to remember to clarify the purposes of any substances sent to you before attempting to ingest them. Not all substances can, or should, be ingested by the same means. Tea, for example, should not be smoked. Presumably, other substances would taste rather terrible when boiled in water and drunk. If there is confusion on how to ingest a given material, please consult with either the person who gave it to you, or your local Mercy of Lagoma.

Note: Consulting with Mercies of Lagoma may result in a gentle cuff about the ears for your own good.

I am extremely grateful to Lady Shae Keaton, Lord Gaston Blackram, Ser Tarrant Moore, Lady Tessa Moore and Lord Lorien Keaton for their efforts in finding the missing puppies that were stolen en route to Arx from Oakhaven.

The puppies are here and they are perfect! I have grown quite fond of the male, Keaton's Oaken Aegis. I have claimed him for myself, or perhaps in truth, it is that he has chosen me. He's a beautiful black and tan and has such personality! I think I will call him Oaken, odd perhaps, but it has a good sound to my ears. The female, Shae says, is extremely clever, and I have already seen the shine she has taken to Kael. It is nice to have more life in the Hall.

Now, as to why they were so delayed, the theft -- that is a long and complicated issue. It seems the were stolen by the Chieftan of the Shadowood Abandoned because he wanted to use them to find his son that had been kidnapped by the Bayer of Pain, a bogeyman Abandoned who operates in the area. Information was offered that was both worrisome and perturbing, hints of trouble brewing that Kael and I will have to plan to deal with.

In the meantime, I am looking forward to getting to know Oaken better, and to learn the training techniques that Keaton have become famous for.

Both the best and worst dealer I know, I think. A shame his commodity is Faith. Our holy Pantheon is in good hands, however, through the Legate.

When they say 'this tea's lit', don't get any false ideas.

Can confirm, tea is not good "lit".

I think I need a name for my Scientific Faith Research Squad. SFRS. Suffers. There we go. We have certainly suffered a few times when shit goes askew. And askew it will go because we are making this up as we go thanks to history eating scumbags.

The Duke really does host a fantastic dinner. Many courses of delicious fare topped with a wonderful dessert. And the variety of alcohols available. I recommend anyone who wants to really get a sense of Thrax cuisine attend a Grimhall feast.

Once, I thought the worst thing that I had to fight with in my life was being allowed to carry a sword, to fight....to sail. I never thought that I might miss those days, when things felt more simple. In reality, would I actually reverse time and return to that? No. Of course I wouldn't. But I don't think that changes the fact that there was certainly something far more easy then.

Now I have to worry about things sinking ships, elfwars, angry mages....it sounds straight out of a children's adventure story. But this is the reality, it seems. I do not think that I am fully prepared for what is coming, I'm not even sure I know how to be, either.

Today I finally arrived in Arx. That quite a journey!

All the stories I've heard of the Fountain of Triumph do not do it justice. Although not as large or ornate as I had expected, it sits in the heart of the city. All who pass through must acknowledge its presence, and a good many travelers pause to slake their thirst here. How poetic.

Soon I'll seek out a guide to show me the sights, get in touch with my family, and finally meet with the Redrains and the Blackwoods. But for now my feet hurt. Instead, I'll search for a soft pillow and a stiff drink, and hope that I don't get it backwards.

So much to do, and I have yet to begin.

Garza told me stories of the Siege at the Murder last night. He spoke of the Valorous Few and their struggles outside the walls of Arx and amidst the Bringer armies. It sounded horrific...and like splendid material to use in my next piece. Like clay soon to become pottery.

Loving Public!

I must apologize for being absent from the archive of late. I was on an adventure! Assisting in the rescue of two puppies and a young boy (and meeting some devilishly handsome Shadowood young men in the process!). During the course of this adventure I not only 1. saw through peoples lights, 2. noticed traps, 3. failed to notice traps, 4. road a horse, 5. solved problems without violence and 6. was wounded in the line of duty.

While the whole event required me to be without the comforts of city life for a few days, it was definitely not boring and so a bit of dirt and discomfort can be over looked.

I will be for the next few days, resting my wounded ankle, and so, should any of you wish to keep me company I shall be happy to have company.

Only a few days before dinner with the King!

Relationship Note on Oliver

I've recently returned from Guild business that took me outside the city, accompanied by the insufferable Messere Oliver Coldrain.

The weather was shit but we managed alright. The business at the mines was wrapped up in less than a day and the trouble with the trading company was a simple misunderstanding. Small victories, yes? I'll take it.

In other information, despite the fact that Messere Coldrain snores like shattered ceramics on flagstones, he was a fairly invaluable resource during all this. The man knows his numbers and his booze and through both of these skills obtained both wealth and contracts for the Guild. His reputation thus far holds true, his knowledge of trade-law competent, and his observations, again, priceless.

He's still a discomfort to the backside, however. A massive one.

An interesting organization with interesting goals. They seem to be quite charitable and wish to see much done for Arx and the people within and without. That said they speak of benefits from charitable endeavors, which is how it seems to self-support to an extent. I believe them to be quite a truly noble organization with an ideal which is great.
