Lately I've had occasion to find myself wanting for plenty of things but absolutely none so much as a foe that'd actually be wounded by a blade.

A radiant mind. I look forward to getting to know my cousin better now that we both find ourselves in the city at the same time!

It's so good when keen minds come together. I am very grateful for it. I learn something new every day.

I am told that the octopus that long ago found it's way into the house from Maelstroms waters, is nearing the end of it's life. While I cannot confess that I have fondness for the creature that has long been the perceived bane of my atrium and that of the fish within, I cannot feel but some small source of sorrow that soon it will be no longer.

I have reached out to see to making it comfortable, and free from the hands of children trying to catch it at all opportunities, for the rest of it's life.

No doubt the children will hope that another will find it's way to us, and to the water in the atrium.

I recall the last time I was in Caldera, walking in the wilderness and coming across a stream. Usually, you'd avoid such a thing as it might be acidic or poisonous. This stream was clear and I could see actual little plants growing with tiny fish moving in them.

An oasis of blue in a background of crimson.

Packing and unpacking are important rituals when leaving and returning from a trip. Each item you select to take with you is something you thought necessary enough to lug across land or sea. And then there are the things you leave behind, forgotten or not, and yes, I have forgotten several things when hastily packing. That bit of pastry you intended to enjoy once upon the road, or even that pretty bauble you spotted that begged to be snatched up and given as a gift. Oh, yes, I have left plenty of presents in my haste. Those are the things I regret the most.

I find myself packing for a trip to see the lands that now fall under my care. Not only to see these lands but the people who dwell there and call it home. I go not alone, of course, for the nobles who have shown such faith in me are coming along, too. My Lord Disaster will even build a house that some fortunate family will get to call their own. I've done my best to arm my lord patron with all manner of blueprints and drawings of homes, but it will be with his two hands that this dwelling comes into being. Every single faith is placed into him that it will be a sturdy and warm home.

Every single confidence that nothing will go wrong.

Blessed Roran spoke some words which spur some thought in me.

There are terrible things which encroach on all sides, but which force the learning of that which some would ignore as habit: That none of us have claims on long lives, and She may stand waiting to collect us. The point is not the length, but what meaning we will fill the time we are given--for short it is at the best.

I got mugged, Scholar. It was wonderful.

My wife came home early and woke me up with the scent of cinnamon and pastry, and I wasn't allowed to go anywhere until after I'd finished my dessert. It was the best mugging ever, and I hope I'll be lucky enough for it to happen again.

Is wanting to be a guide a bit too arrogan. I mean they're not wrong but my arrogance is hardly new or surprising. Still it does raise a question why do I want what I want is it just an excuse to pry into people's lives? I like to think it's because I think I can help more people by sharing and teaching than by doing but... I wonder if it's cowardice on my part. Fear of drawing unwanted attention or jealousy? That's too much introspection I suppose time for a drink.

This week I was engaged in conversation with several others at the Great Archive and those of us who were scholars were asked how we keep track of information from various. I responded that each scholar likely has a unique method for doing so. While this likely accurate truth be told i sometimes get perplexed by my own notes when engaging in subsquent review. and that is my embarrassing admission for the week

It has been far too long since I have walked among the people of Arx. I know that House Deepwood has been so ably represented by Lord Grady that we have not suffered at all from my absence, but I feel that I had tarried too long back at home, to the detriment of the people of Arx.

I have set aside the hauntings of the past, and they are now where they are. It is time to renew my focus on what has always been my cause - the betterment of all people, great and small, noble and common, rich and poor.

It is good to be back.

Sometimes you think you made a good decision in the moment. Sometimes it takes a while to know. And sometimes you think you made a good decision in the moment and then find out that you made a SPECTACULAR decision.

I am very happy for a decision I made last week. I am so happy that I embraced The Dream.

I was walking home from the bank today and misjudged a step. To my dismay, my ankle is now sprained. Lord Triton Ravenseye happened to be across the street and kindly helped me home. We had a lovely conversation about the forests beyond the city walls.

Even now I miss Hawkhold. I worry for our people there, for my family that's also there

My darlings, I wake up this way.
