Relationship Note on Ilvin

A dangerous man. He'll have you opening up to him with thos warm whiskey eyes. Have you telling things you'd tell no one else. Things you didn't even realize you needed to say. Dangerous, kind man, Blessed Ilvin.

Three Things:

1) No, I am not becoming Godsworn. I will be swearing an oath to not carry through with some of the actions of my past that I now regret. And I will be taking further action to make amends with the Faith.

2) If I wanted to wreak havoc in Arx I would taint paper with disease. I would make sure your journal entries from now until the future are done in trusted sources. One could wipe out much of Arx through the liability of our journal addiction. The recent blank pages made me consider this.

3) No I didn't poison or have anything to do with it.

Could be it's a prank or someone just sent a letter to the wrong address, as it happens. Nothing out the usual, though.

Relationship Note on Miles

A chance encounter allowed our paths to cross and it was good to see the cynical old man again. Thankfully I was injured, so he had little reason to berate me for my shortcomings! There's something special about a person who recognizes the value of inconveniencing an opponent, even after they've turned you to ashes. Indeed the only thing that one could hope for is that you can work your way up their nose and cause them some discomfort.

I'll have to be sure to invite Sir Miles Lockton to one of our dinners at Deepwood's manor some evening when we have one of the gatherings the Marquessa's so fond of having. We've decided that we should have some sort of game or test of skill at them, following the evening meal. Maybe when Sir Miles is present I'll think up something especially taxing and potentially brutal, all in the hopes of giving some adequate scrapes and bruises for him to attend to. It'll make him feel right at home, telling his fellow dinner guests that they're idiots for not being better at whatever it is they've failed to do, and he wouldn't need to patch them up if they'd only went left instead of right. I do believe I once heard him tell a young squire of the King's Own to "get good", but I could be mistaken.

I support the Pravus in what they do in these dark times. The Duchess knows she has my full support as do the members of their family. They are righteous in their actions and my axes stand at the ready.

As of late I have been making progress. Soon I shall work with the Faith and swear my vows. I have taken actions in the direction of the Pantheon. I am not a man who sits idle and talks. My words are backed by action and by the guidance of Mangata.

Are you watching me, watching me?
And if you are, do you like what you can see, can't see?
Are you finding me, finding me - to your liking? Find me.
Your velvet touch - it's such a rush
and leaves so many questions
left upon your tongue.
But I know what I'm doing here
your every move is crystal clear
So bring it on, bring it on
your night is where I belong
I'm calling you out - oh the games you play
You've promised nothing, but I'm taking everything
Come what may - make no mistake.
I'll cut my teeth on the marks you leave
and slip inside, and you'll never see.
Do you really think you're a challenge to me?
So tell me now -
Are you finding me, finding me - to your liking?
Find me.

When I started offering a course in learning the basics of the Nox'alfar language through the Society, I didn't expect it to be nearly so popular. I had no idea so many people in the city wanted to know the language -- or that so many people in the city were budding linguists.

It actually reassures me, to some degree; gods and spirits know, we're going to need to be willing to learn new things if we're to stand against the growing darkness.

Once there was a Duke who was the most powerful. Kind and just in peace and terrifying in war. His enemies feared him while his people were content. He had a Duchess that was lovely and charming - but she was not content. For days and nights the she was inconsolable in her misery, and the Court apothecaries informed the Duke that his wife was pained and dying of a broken heart. Finally, with her last hour had come, she said to her Duke: "Promise me that when I am gone, that you will find someone wiser, more cunning, and more beautiful than I --"

Deeply troubled by this turn of events, the Duke left the Duchess' chambers before she could finish her last request. He set out upon his fastest ship, sailing abroad to search for a new bride in order to satisfy his dying wife. While he was away, the Duchess slowly recovered from the pain of her broken heart. It was said that her humors were imbalanced because while the Duke was just and kind to his people, he often forgot about his loyal and charming wife. It was said that her heart was banded in silver, kept whole while her husband was away on quest.

So, with the Duke still abroad, the Duchess sought out the wisdom of the Shaman on the island. The Coral Crone, who lived in her cave at the edge of the island, with her long grey hair in dreaded locks that were threaded through with pearls, shells, and the blood-red pieces of coral that were of her namesake.

"Crone," she asked. "When he returns, what shall I do to have him take notice of me?"

The Crone replied, "I know that in your heart there is a great longing. Nothing will come to harm you if you heed my advice. First, you must ask your tailors and embroiders and jewelers to create for you a dress that has the color of the moon. Then, you will wear it - and over it - this tattered sealskin. When his ship docks at port, you will know what to do."

Within days, the gown was created. The most beautiful color of shining white and glimmering over with opals and moonstones. The Duchess dressed and took pains to arrange her hair and choose her jewels with care. On the evening when the ship was reported to be in home waters, the wind shifted to favor a swift return. The air was cold and brisk and brought a shiver of gooseflesh to the skin. Just before she stepped out into the evening, she slipped on the sealskin and hid beneath it ...

(Oh, Sealskin. Truly my favorite of my mother's folktales.)

Relationship Note on Petal

Miss Petal, in my consideration, is the premier seamstress in Arx. Her work is of great quality and she always has pies. So perhaps a great baker too. Go to her shop to get dressed by her, stay for a piece of pie. Fantastic.

Baron Cornelius Blackshore,

My apologies for not writing sooner. If there are any rumors of my demise, they are false. I was not at Blackshore Keep when the explosion occurred. I was already on the Gilded Lily, sailing to deliver mother's ashes to her birth family. The voyage took longer than expected which is why I have been silent for so long. Please know that I continued my way to Arx, and am seeing shelter with House Navegant.

If this letter arrives posthumous and you are no longer sailing on Magenta's water, then please accept my love and devotion as you journey to the next life.

You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

My issue with this? It comes from catching flies. I think your main problem with this is, why would you catch flies? The reason could possibly be put down to catching flies to get rid of them. However, the underlying meaning of this idiom is that, you would experience more success if you were to be nice, rather than be un-nice.

But flies are pests. There is nothing, nothing desirable about attracting flies with honey. Even switching it around makes no sense. Attracting honeys from being fly. Really. Why?

Relationship Note on Leona

She called me complicated.
I suppose I can't argue.
I don't like trusting people, I never trust it but I suppose there's something there that comes close enough. She's a fascinating woman, I feel like a child sometimes when I'm with her as I want her to tell her story again and again and again. Perhaps I'll do us both a favor and put it to quill and paper.

Relationship Note on Marian

Finally met Count Turo today, during the duel between Dagon and Dominic. Dagon absolutely destroyed the man. It was over as soon as it started.

Anyhow, it seems someone is coming by to visit Turo and he's peeved at Regi about it. Not sure what that's about.

In other news, we'll be getting some tutoring in the finer parts of swordplay from some Valardin woman, name of Marian. She taught Dagon it seems, so if she's half as good as he is, it'll be worth it.

The Thrax Duel was very entertaining, albeit short lived. It's a bit surreal at times - these faces I have known since childhood like they might be mine but not mine at all. It's almost like walking in a dream that is part memory and part fantasy and full of ghosts. - For a moment I even thought I saw Donrai and how is it that my blood can still run cold and feel like rot in my veins at the thought of him?

I finally had the chance to offer my congratulations on Duchess Tyde's daughter, it is good to see her thriving and happy.

And as ever it is unnerving to see Prince Dominic in any capacity, it's unfair to him but a habit I cannot break to look for traces of his sister in his face.
