The memorial for the Thralls that had fallen at Sungreet was a sharp reminder that freedom is not gained just with eloquent words and pretty statements. Usually they are fiercely fought for with the price of blood and death. Sacrifices. So many sacrifices just so others have a chance to live freely. I cannot forget, I must not forget the price one pays when taking the risk to break their chains. Whether the chains are held by slave masters or something even darker, I cannot stand idly by.

Since I'm already here, Scholar, I've another entry in mind.
Since I spoke of service before regarding the Peers, I include political matches in this. Yes, yes, there can be love in them, it's not required anywhere for the marriage to be an absolutely horrible experience. It doesn't need to be love at first sight, we've plenty of matches right now that have been political and affection has grown between the two.
We also have examples where it most decidedly did not, but good on them for doing their duty to their Houses and people and sticking to it.
Funny one, Scholar, but no. You may as well write it down and reassure all unmarried ladies that I very much doubt Bisland hates anyone enough to ever try and match them with me. Even I would consider it a reprehensible and inhuman act.

I met a friend from my youth today. It went about as well as expected. Awkward attempts at small talk, clumsy questions about family, uncomfortable silences. The usual reaction.

Getting the chance to work with animals reminds me of the times when I had less responsibility on my shoulders. I had almost forgotten just how honest animal companions can be in their actions and behavior. To see the bonds strengthen between the master and their respective companion is truly a joy, one that I am looking forward to the next time I have the opportunity to work with the Lyon and the Lyonhound. Watching the two learn from each other, I see quite a bit of potential, especially with time, effort, and patience.

An eventful time. The north... is a dangerous place. But it would be a worse place without allies. I'm glad Cillian and Rosalind have made it through alright. They both gave me a scare. But we for the most part survived. For as many as we took north we lost only a few but... still that is a sadness. Still we went out and we returned with more information. Rowenova did her best but it's a reminder of just how dangerous expeditions can be. I certainly will wear the scars for it for a time but surviving is it's own thing. Now just to put together what we've learned. With Clara's elevation it seems all the more time to sort out what information needs to be spread wider around the fealty.

I very much want to be able to trust that this new prince of Eurus and his retinue can be trusted, but their arrival comes on the heels of assassins making an attempt on my husband's life, twice. The second time they almost made it all the way to the window of our room, where our children sleep. To say that I'm on edge and wary of these new people would be an understatement. A very, very gross understatement.
I can only say that I can try to not let any relationship we might form with them and their price be colored by the actions of others. But it is very, very hard.

Relationship Note on Rymarr
It has taken me some time to fully go through the motions of living without the expectation of another being there. The busy work has kept it mostly from my mind from making sure Rymarr's things were handed out appropriately to those he wished to receive them to seeing that he was immortalized for the generations to come. Through this I have learned that Rymarr befriended more than his fair share even if he might have not have thought he did.
There is no reference in life to compare to losing the one who was responsible beside you for the welfare of so many. The one who was your partner in all things and the father of your children. Layne and Nara reflect their father in many ways and in many others they do not. I did say at his memorial that there would never be another quite like him. His sense of duty and honor was unmatched by many and his perception of the world around him was definitely the anchor to many things. He never once faltered and for that I am grateful. It strengthened Deepwood and kept us surefooted.
Now that most of the work has been done the manor is quiet. Granted Rymarr was never a loud soul but the sound of him in armor, the mere feeling of his presence in his study or just the knowledge that he was on the grounds has faded and with it I finally understand the depth of what loss is. Its not just the person or their personality, its their presence in all the small ways. From the breathing beside you to the knowledge there will be support no matter what comes. The path is no longer quite so smooth or quite so easy to navigate but I know its there and its there because of him. Deepwood will not falter, but the way will be harder without him and I suppose that is where I will honor him. Each step taken is one where he is there beside us in spirit, knowing he helped forge that path and direct it. Rymarr continues to live on through all of us that found him a friend or confidante.
The way is not lost. He is not lost even if the constant reminder is. It is hard to put out the flame of another's deeds and soul when it has so brightly burned before. The light remains in every part of this manor, in every part of Old Oak and within our children. They shall inherit what we built together and you will live on here, through us and your values shall not be forgotten.
We miss you in ways that can not be replaced or remembered. For those things I grieve and I am sure will continue to grieve for some time but I do know that you have made it somewhere where you are needed. Where others will call on you because if one thing has been made clear during your life was that you were a man of duty, honor and valor.
Be at peace, my lion. The battle was won.

After Duchess Calista's recommendation, and a conversation with my mother, and Reigna's frank words to me about motherhood, and breastfeeding, I have finally hired two nurses to help with the twins. I think Kedehern is breathing a bit easier now, and not worrying over me as much. Or the babies.

They can be difficult to avoid, so you're bound to get bitten many times in your life. Thankfully, their bite is mostly harmless...so long as you can ignore the itch. If you scratch the bites, they can become infected and become far worse for you than if you left them alone. So you have to learn to give them as little attention as possible.

There are no safe topics, only topics that you haven't found the right enemy for yet. Wariness is especially wise if you are given to a cheerful disposition, or so I am told. In any event, I would dare to dream and hope for a more peaceful growing season. The need for a stable reserve of foodstuffs for emergencies has been well-underscored by recent events, and it is my hope that other domains adopt cautious policies for their supplies going forward.
