Have you visited the menagerie lately? I hear the menagerie is excellent this time of year. If you haven't visited the menagerie, you should definitely visit the menagerie. The menagerie is a wonderful place where all your wildest dreams can come true. At the menagerie. Such a nice menagerie.

Menagerie.

Nothing like the threat of another marching army of enemies to get folks interested in self preservation.

I understand that people like to brag what they did and boast about it. Though, shouldn't you worry about those agents of our enemies reading every word that you've been writing? They know where one group of first children are at now, they know who has found weapons as plainly as any scholar who reads the journals and as any gossip can listen to the rumors. Guard your knowledge more carefully and you may hold onto it longer!

As for those with weapons, we've discovered one thing: They may end up corrupting you if you use them. I suggest you use caution if you've an ancient artifact.

I will now lament about not being there to find the griffin. That's been my life's work these last six months, trying to locate them... now I'm unsure of what to do or what my purpose is. Maybe I'll go wander into the mountains...

The ship has set sail without me, I'm at shore, waiting to see if it will return. How long do I wait? The ship returns, and yet I cannot board, everything is in limbo and I'm unable to figure out what comes next. When will the boarding begin? Locked in sight of this one ship, how many have I missed? Have I missed the last boat, and now I must wait along the shore forever? I look along the shore and there are indeed more, a veritable fleet of suitable ships. I'll need to board one to reach my destination, and if a new ship accepts me as a passenger before the first, than I'm afraid that I will not continue to wait on shore for a boat that has yet to show any indication of an interest in setting sail. I'm not made for the shore, my destiny lies beyond the horizon. I need only a sturdy ship to get me there.

I'm starting to think my nautical metaphors need work. Such a disgraceful display.

I still love meditating before the statue of Mangata on the beach. This miracle of craftsmanship is such a beautiful blend of art and architecture. I have dabbled a bit in sculpting, perhaps I should dive into it once more.

It's the first battle I've experienced in some months, and to my memory, it all went well. Of course this all flies in the face of the fact that I woke up in a medical cot with the worst headache of my life, and I'm pretty sure my ribs are broken. I don't remember anything after a second enemy came, large and angry, I approached the whole thing like a game. It's all fun. Fighting is fun, right?

How do I really let this lesson sink in? What did I do wrong? I can't remember if I misstepped, or even how well I did (I was assured that I did a rather nasty number of blows before he took me down. Hope they fucking hurt). No fear, no realization that all was lost, that I was about to die. I don't have any of that. Just a haze of emotion and darkness, and than hours... Days later? Gods how long was it? I woke, in agony. All that I had could have been lost in an instant. An instant that I cannot recall, a moment that to me never was. That is death, and it's far easier to cross over than I realized. Next time I hear something that big approach, I'm running and getting an army.

To Lord Silas, Lord Kaldur and Lady Olivia, I cannot recall what you did for me, but I'm certain I owe you all my life. I'm forever in all your debts.

It has been some time since my last entry and upon traveling to Bastion. It was a time of reflection and introspection after the last events of my time in Arx. I wish that I could say that I have come home more the wiser but wonder if I may have been away too long. Never the less the few weeks I have been back have been filled with parties, festivals, feasts and charitable events. It reminds me of the blessings that have been bestowed upon me.

As with the turning of the season, the soft Spring breezes grow warmer each day into the bloom of Summer. There is change upon the air or perhaps within me and a sprig of new growth.

The single feast day of Tehom approaches with the signs in the celestial bodies above pointing to the event called the Eclipse of Mirrors and as Third Reflection of the Mirrormasks, I write this.

There have been much loss, sacrifice, pain, suffering and sadness since the last eclipse experienced by all people of the Compact. I'm reminded again of hundreds of young children of thralls that were sacrificed and perhaps forgotten when the wall of the Thraxan ward was blown up by the Bringers as that evil desired to take Arx. With the Abyssal nightmares whose single purpose and desire is to twist and corrupt all creation and having brought such travesty right to the doorstep here in Arx, I feel that all should be forgiven for their dark thoughts and look with suspicion to the Thirteenth.

Through all of these challenges we have faced, with some paying the ultimate price with their lives so that others might live, it is easy to lose ones self to feelings of hatred, anger, jealousy, grief and even apathy. Closing ones mind and heart to the world around them and shutting out the words of the Pantheon only will bring further harm to the world.

Take heart, reader. The Dark Reflection gives us the ability to identify and understand these dark passions so that we might master them before they become a yoke on our soul, burdening us down. By understanding that through our duality we are a whole person and recognize that just as we have hidden emotions and feelings that often make us lose ourselves to such things, we can can see that others too are the same as us. Tehom's teachings on duality allow us not just to master our own dark passions, but to choose when to react when others who are hurting inside try harming us. He is not the god of evil, the god to invoke when one desires to do wrong. He is the god that gives us truth and allows us to forgive, to seek forgiveness and seek stronger bonds between one another as we recognize that everyone is the same as ourself struggling with our passions.

Tehom's Eclipse of Mirrors is a time we should think heavily on all that has happened in the previously years and how we all have changed. To look for truth in the Mirror and reflect the truth towards all people we come in contact with. That truth is we all have the light and darkness within us, we all struggle to master our emotions, and that we all will fail from time to time. Use our failings as learning opportunities, use the failings of others as opportunities to forgive them and help them change.

Open your hearts and open your minds, accept truth and become agents of change.

Another batch of wine has been delivered to Lady Monique Greenmarch for the Spring Soiree. I hope that the batch turns out as well as I hoped, and that people enjoy it. This is the second time we've supplied wine for an event under my watch - the first was for one of our own events.

Lucita and I are planning a concert event very soon, where we will be serving some new wines - and some old familiar wines. We'll be encouraging people to come with a picnic luncheon of their own. We've dubbed it a "Picnic and a Concert". Or, something along those lines. Now, we need only find the entertainment and post the event to the boards so people know about it.

A griffon. Something I've only previously seen depicted on a banner. Well, banners don't do them justice. Majestic, noble, deadly. It plucked ambushers from treetops and took them for a short trip before they reached their rapid destinations. All in the matter of a few short moments. Definitely deadly.

Countess Mia and Dame Felicia of course should receive the credit for releasing the magnificent creature from captivity. To think the cultists were going to sacrifice it. Well, the rest of the team performed splendidly in providing the distraction; Lord Killian, Lord Corban, Dame Paloma, and myself all threw ourselves into the fray, in our own ways. We kept the attention of the would-be sacrificers overall. Countess Mia was able to both release it and do battle, while Dame Felicia watched over her back - which ended up being need, so thankfully I kept them paired together.

Overall the mission was a success with those present and representing the Compact in their unique capacities, comporting themselves with both honor and dignity.

Still. A griffon. Despite being bloodied and enraged within it's cage, it still had the look of something that could have torn ten men apart on a whim.

Relationship Note on Corban

On a recent foray the good lord of House Telmar provided me a service. He, much to my chagrin, took a blow on my behalf. I had foolishly sprang a counter-ambush on some would-be ambushers and for a brief period of time weathered the assault of a whole group of wild-eyed cultists. While I held out for what I felt was a considerable amount of time, inevitably a lucky blow or two will prevail; and they did. Lord Corban came hurtling into the mix after he and those in the other fight had eliminated their threats.

There were many heroic moments in our patrol, but that one stood out intimately for me. Likely because it involved my own safety and wellbeing.
