The royal wedding was most splendid, of course, as it should be -- but I confess that I was worried, nevertheless, that somehow, some way, something terrible would happen to ruin it. It's been so long since the Crown has been in peace and confident hands; the skill of Duke Gabriel as Regent was and is impressive, of course, but no Regent can compare to a King that demonstrates wisdom and growth of character.

I give thanks to the Gods and to their servants who have labored to bring this course of events about -- thank you, all of you, whomever you are. I rejoice that my daughters, at least for these days, know peace.

I have noticed that journals in Arx seem to go through phases. Where, a theme seems to come across and a vast majority of journals written at that time pertain to such. I remember a time where love was discussed, and this is the.. third time, perhaps? That I remember puns being the go-to thing. There are times when poetry is popular. Other times it seems the thing to do is make passive aggressive swipes at one another that are perhaps thought to be veiled, but come across plain as day. Then there are the contests, such as the animals. I would write about Serenity... but she is a calm bird, unless she is going in for the kill (or delivering a note, but I do hope she does so with grace and calm so as not to startle those who receive missives from me in this manner). But now, it seems, some people have taken to sending off sketches to the scholars to record. They's been cute, I have to say.

I wonder if I should start painting my art for the journals instead of weaving words. I keep most of my artwork hidden away... Hmm, things to ponder.

I too attended the dinner party of white. The decor was lovely. Magical even. I attended in further effort to put myself back out there, stop being a hermit... yada yada... I was probably still far more quiet than most, and couldn't bring myself to join the busier tables, despite my desire to speak with Prince Fergus and Princess Marian some more. Still, I was blessed to have good conversation with some others; namely Lady Aislin and the Count and Countess Keatons. I think both conversations give me hope to speak to them each again in the future.

I received thank yous from both Princess Alarissa and Lady Monique. That was a pleasant surprise. I must say, Princess Alarissa is the epitome of grace and manners, at least in public. I was disappointed I did not get a chance to speak to her at the party, but she did try to speak to all that she could. They both hosted a fun evening for us all.

It still feels strange to be in the Valardin Ward... I hope in time it will be less so. I am haunted by memories every time I step foot on their grounds. Time heals, they say... I can only hope so.

It seems that a new season is upon us -- in more ways than one.

I have attended the wedding of His Majesty, King Alaric IV, to the princess, Symonesse. In truth, it is the first time I have laid eyes on one of her kind and yet I see a kinship slowly being built between them and the Arvani. Their marriage joins two people -- not only man and wife, but the Arvani and the Nox'alfar, the shattered trust between mended like a broken sword remade. If forged well and true, it will not break but instead hold strong, able to be wielded as a great weapon in defense of the Compact in whole. It is long and arduous work, but Riven knows that well. Our house and its future has been built from the same sacrifice, the same shared purpose. I pray to all the gods that the King and Queen find at least as much value in their match. Perhaps more, if Limerance smiles kindly upon them.

Relationship Note on Valerio

An interesting man to say the least. His dedication to duty is admirable and he's able to maintain an unprecedented level of professionalism all the while. He wears his history on his body it would seem and a tale full of torrid details. There's a part of me, deep down, that wants to advise him to move more frequently while he's fighting.

A fierce woman who took lessons to heart and improved upon them. All the more fierce fighting guarding her stomach through the entire tournament. Well done Mari

I feel that I should take up painting, even if only in levels that could be labeled strictly amateur. The work of art that I could paint with the egocentric as my inspiration would be interesting to say the least. How does one capture the act of warmongering in artistic form? Something to ponder, no doubt.

Relationship Note on Alarissa

I don't really care for parties, I never did and around this time of year.. I like them even less.

But it was a joy to see Princess Alarissa as the charming hostess. She literally glowed and seemed happy in a way I had not seen her in... well a long time. The stars were shining brightly, grass was green, and the sod didn't even damage the floor of the Vow. And despite my best attempts to just put in an appearance and be supportive, her joy turned out to be infectious and I found myself staying and having a great time.

Thank you Princess Alarissa for reminding me that we all must take time to smile and laugh and dance. And that we must move on into the future and not always be stuck in the past. Thank you.

The pentathalon was fun and Ribbons took her loss to me as well as I took my losses to her. I need more bringers or demon wolves though. Duels are a delight, but real stakes and challenges of blood are addictive.

That was one of the most enjoyable parties I have had the opportunity to attend since I have been in Arx. Food, drink, and the company of friends and family made it all worthwhile. My thanks to both Alarissa and Monique for such a fine affair. The sea of white was a good reflection of out hopes for the future.

The one thing that remains the same is that things will always change. It is not the changes that happen to us, happen around us, that define us. But it is how we face them that makes all the difference. Changes beyond my understanding, beyond my say or control are happening quietly and in the shadows. When they come to light, I will be ready.

I was 13 when I first saw my future on a battlefield near the Telmarch, as I watched Mercies of Lagoma scour the field for survivors, combing the wreckage and ruin. How white their robes were in contrast to the earth that had been stained dark with such outpourings of blood that are the terrible oblations of war. How they navigated the agonized wails and low groans, and weathered the stench of fear and death. Such comfort they brought to every wounded soul they encountered, whether Oathlander or Abandoned, determined to do Our Lady of Change's blessed work in the face of the fury of those who would slaughter some of those they so valiantly strove to save.

I was 15 when my family finally relented and let me commence my training as a Mercy in hallowed Blancbier. For all I threw myself into my studies, for all I was grateful that my Uncle Radley and my parents saw fit to permit me the passionate pursuit of my path before my age of majority, a part of me regrets that I had not started sooner. For the next three years, I learned all that was before me, all I could grasp about the arts of the healer and the apothecary. I honed my empathy into a bedside manner that has, so far, well-served me and those in my care. I bolstered my faith with a much deeper knowledge of the Faith.

I was 18 when I finally earned the mantle of Mercy, as tender an age that the order will permit that honor. In less than six months' time, I found myself bereaved numerous times over, with the deaths of so many of my kin during what we call the Tragedy at Sanctum. My parents, my remaining grandparents, most of my aunts and uncles, so many cousins and friends, all violently taken from this life. Such grief and anguish, indescribable, yet I am grateful that such loss was spared me at an even more tender age. The countless tears merely tempered the flame-forged alaricite of my resolve to heal all that ails the world.

I was 22, which I still am as of writing this, when I sought to give others the opportunity I had, and an even earlier start than I was gifted. With the diligent work of my beloved brothers and sisters of Mercy, and with the generous donations given to us by the Faithful of Arx, we have seen fit to implement an apprenticeship program to give orphans possessing an interest and aptitude in the medicinal and apothecary arts a chance to one day be a Mercy of Lagoma. Although most are too young to be recognized as disciples of the Faith, they are welcomed and embraced as novitiates of Mercy. Those who may wish to simply tend to the plants and animals we use to make medicines may study with Mistress Leola Allenatore, the First Horn of the Lodge of Petrichor, who so graciously is sharing her time and knowledge. Between her and the training overseen by Mercy Cybele Walker In-Between, I thrum with such elation for what the future holds.

It is my intention and determination to grow this program and open it to all in Arx who may lack opportunity to train yet who possess the aptitude and interest to learn and serve. With the collaboration of my fellow Fathers and Mothers of Mercy throughout the Compact, and with the continued support of His Holiness, Dominus Aldwin Aurum and His Majesty, King Alaric Grayson IV, we will ensure that such opportunities are available in every House of Solace that exists in Arvum.

It seems strange. The first time someone mentioned Spirits to me, I was... Put off by the very idea, really. The more I learn however, the more I begin to see that maybe it has merit indeed. I should seek out a teacher, I think.

The party that Princess Alarissa and Lady Monique threw was beautiful, and the prizes were lovely. I had a chance to speak with the King when there was not a long line of individuals waiting to congratulate him and the lovely Queen and it it was a very entertaining conversation. Evidently tree throwing is a thing? I can't even imagine how that is possible, but several there assured me that it was.

Relationship Note on Insaya

Mistress Insaya is coming for dinner! Have I mentioned yet, Scholar, how elated I am that she accepted? Oh? I did?
Well, it's nonetheless true! I'd have the whole of the City know it. She's *de-fucking-lightful*!
I know that's not a real word, Scholar. It should be, though.

Went to a party. It was alright.

Beyond owls trying to be suicidal and knock over lamps of hot oil, because that's a brilliant idea.

Drank with Mal and Marian.

Didn't win the gloves. Eh, probably wouldn't wear them anyways.

Good time. Too many people though.

The Lodge of Petrichor has broken the earth and construction is apace.

Really, I've planned this so often and worked with so many people on it, and ensured the run of so many materials to the Grey Forest by now, I can't foresee the construction taking very long. Of course, part of that is because I'm eager to finish before the next emergency demands the Lodge's materials.

Again.

The downside of being a charitable organisation of the Faith, I suppose. It's a small price to pay. Perhaps third time truly is the charm.
