I did suggest a tournament, but it was for Gloria, not Gild. Gild may have a tournament if she wishes but I feel she might be rather puzzled by the whole thing.

[This entry is written in a precise, flowing, almost delicate hand.]
The Commoners Court Meeting of 8/22/1005 AR:

Called together by Julea Sanguine, who gave a her recollection of and concerns as regards the news of the Assembly of Peers.

Jeremiah(myself) spoke announcing appointments to the Common Council--Jeremiah and Julea Sanguine both.

Larissa Whisper spoke expressing concerns regarding the loyalty of and potential acts of treason committed by one Lady Dawn Grayson. Also expressed concerns as to representation on the Common Council.

Discussion of Larissa's words happened for some time until Captain Audric stepped up, delivering an explanation of the Nox'Alfar treaty.

Concerns were raised by many as to the marriages and weapons that the Nox'Alfar will require and pass out by the terms of their treaty. Of particular note was a suggestion by Aureth Grayhope that a Tournament dedicated to Gild be set up to determine worthy bearers and wielders of the blades and/or who should be married into the Nox'Alfar.

Archlector Avary warns of false Seraphs.

Castor Voducce remarks on Knights of Solace patrols of the Lower Buroughs, wishes a return of Iron Guard.

Silas Mercier speaks on Iron Guard recruiting.

Meeting adjourns peaceably.

I had expected some form of intercession might be necessary at the meeting within the Commoner's Court, between the tensions in the city and the promise of free swill as grievances and questions were aired. Fortunately no such issue arose.

I'm pretty sure that the best damn idea to come out of that Commoner Court was that the High Council should hold a tournament for those alaricite weapons. No fancy armor! Just skill. Come on, guys. I'll fight monsters!

The ships must fly wherever there is wind. To the south, to cull a herd already grown too large, and now to the north. Young Darkwater believes there may be workers of blood magic among the Abandoned of the frozen northern seas that allow their tribes to resist the furious siren’s song. Perhaps some will be willing to turn Prodigal, should our gifts be taken, and our protection against the oncoming storm be desired. Each Abandoned who turns to our cause is one less arrow our foemen can cast against our shields.

The Alfar are said to come within days, with a tribute of alarcite in trade for the Compact’s tribute in blood. It is yet to be seen how the Council will distribute such weapons, though in the habit of mainlanders for time out of mind, I doubt they will be swift to arm those they fear. Even now, in the face of the greatest evils that have risen for a thousand years, they fear we men of the Isles, though among the North are some more to our ken.

It is the nature of walls to stand until they fall, whether walls be formed of ships or of stones. Mainlanders trust to walls of stones, and for too long we of the Isles have trusted in the wooden wall of our fleets to ward off all harm. Such days of comfortable superiority are coming to a swift end.

The last Tyde spoke of keeping “food that walks itself”. Others have spoken of “not needing to outrun the bear, just their slowest friend”. I think that when a monster hunts, it is not always for hunger, but for sheer love of slaughter; such beasts will not long stop to feed. From a kraken, I expect one cannot fly far enough.

We must become the greatest killers in all the world, if we are to survive.
We must grow strong enough to slay legends, and thus rise as new legends ourselves, for we are of the Isles and know no other way.

At least one way of measuring the freedom of any society is the amount of comedy that is permitted, and clearly a healthy society permits more satirical comment than a repressive, so that if comedy is to function in some way as a safety release then it must obviously deal with these taboo areas. This is part of the responsibility that must be accorded to us jesters, that nothing be excused the searching light of comedy. If anything can survive the probe of humour it is clearly of value, and conversely all groups who claim immunity from laughter are claiming special privileges which should not be granted.

In light of recent events, I want to stress the importance of asking questions and speaking your mind. You should never be afraid to question. Nor should you be afraid to question the answer once it is given.

There is an assortment of information out there. Truths. Lies. A mix of the two. We still do not know everything; perhaps, we never will. Though we paid the Teind, it is clearly not the end. Perhaps it is only just the beginning.

So keep asking. Keep searching. And I will do everything in my power to help find these answers, too.

Relationship Note on Dawn

This whole mess has leaved some very disturbing connotations with me, and things I can't seem to shake.

And I don't know whether or not it was her intention. Asking for a vote, and the vote or choice doesn't even matter, doing the very thing that was being discussed. If that was the case, why even have a gathering of the council, what was the point if you were just going to do it anyways?

Make no mistake, I believed the Tiend was the right choice, but how Dawn went about it, accusing people of not holding to their word and then she goes out and breaks her's. I don't understand. Is there a story that we don't know? Is there something that we should know? What more isn't being said and more importantly, /why/ isn't it being said?

She had put everything on the Tiend being completed. Enough to throw a sham of an Assembly of Peers and a vote that didn't matter. And when she says that she will be one of the sacrifices, she doesn't even go through with it herself like she said she would. I don't say that because I wanted her to die. Fact is, I would've rather not anyone had to. Enough people are going to die in the coming days, months, and likely years.

But when you're the only one that returns. Left with with twenty-one people. Only two return. I assume that thirteen of them are dead through the ritual. What happened to the others? Why are you still alive? And what made you decide to sacrifice Lady Darkwater instead of yourself, since you seemed to be so willing to throw yourself on the sword of martyrdom but then couldn't go throw with the act?

I don't want to think these thoughts, I don't want to accuse like this. Blazing sands, I gave my daughter's middle name in honor of you. But all of us, especially the Darkwaters deserve answers. And these last months, you have shut out just about everyone.

I wish I knew why. I wish I didn't think of you like I do now. And I wish, more than the rest, that you would tell us why.

My sea has gone dry.

So too now, is my sun burnt out.

All I have left, are the stones and bones. Her smile, even when I scolded her was always so warm.

I ask you kindly - reader.

Do not move me to anger any time soon. My mercy drained with the waters and went out with the light.

I have been given a promotion in the Mummers. I have decided that my new title shall be 'Assistant Director of Operations'. It sounds important, doesn't it? Much more important than just 'assistant'. Ill have to have business cards made.
