To those who stood toe to toe with the demon, I salute you and your courage. Princess Alis Valardin, Princes Anze Redrain, Duke Leo Fidante, Lady Eirene Malvici, and Lord Fiachra Greenmarch. It was an honor to fight that creature beside you.
Of the Knights of Valardin that met us and went with us, I will say this as they deserve mention as well. You held. You took your orders from your superior and you kept the shav'arvani from coming at us from behind. Your death had meaning; your sacrifice had purpose; your lives will not be forgotten.

In my time training people, it always tends to be the most stubborn of students that seem to be the best ones. It was true then, as it was with young Fiachra as it is now. They may not want to listen, but when they do, they give your full attention, and are better for it in the process.
It is no different with the Lady Malvici. She has talent. I wish her luck on her mission and hope that my advice helps her in her efforts.

We've planned and gone over strategy, gathered everything we imagine we could possibly need, prayed and attended blessing ceremonies, and even said our 'see you soon's' to our loved ones. We can do this, and we will return victorious. It may be a minor victory, but every victory against the dark counts.

Perhaps I am being too cautious, though why I cannot say. Then again, perhaps it is wiser to not let one's passions run so recklessly wild. Lately, that seems to only invite trouble. Then again....

How were they kind to you?
Often, do you consider their actions in your daily life?
Alas, these are only odd questions that I find myself posing.
Really.
Eventually, I should answer them myself.
They - then - the citizens of Arx would follow suit.

I will say 'thank you,' for there was more than duty done. You and yours proved insightful, kind and capable. I was never made to feel out of place.
However, if you mean to challenge me further by extending invitation to all and sundry on my behalf, it is only fair that one of us make clear that I require a compelling puzzle to be coaxed into either the wilds or pants. Ours remains unsolved.

Relationship Note on Lianne
I chose to take you to the wilds for myriad reasons, and many of them are not matters that ought be made public. One, however, I wish to write freely about: I had wanted to test your mettle.
After five nights of sleeping in the dirt, six days of hard riding, a dozen meals of trail rations and wild game, one horrifying finding, and exactly no luxuries afforded, I am pleased by the results of this test.
I would write 'thank you', but doing one's duty should be expected, not thanked.
To any that read this open letter: Lady Lianne Pravus is a scholar, a scientist, a noblewoman, and a fine trail companion. Any expedition out of or inside of Arx would benefit from her aid. And fear not, she: owns pants, is not adverse to dirt, will eat rabbit, and is armed.

I took a small troop north - Princess Deva Redrain, Lord Sigurd Nightgold, Lady Lianne Pravus, and half a dozen of my family's finest mounted soldiers - to inspect a Shav village and an ancient shrine that resided beside it. The local legends say the shrine was created by the Sylv'Alfar so long ago.
We located the site of the shrine and the village, but found both entirely leveled. Not remains but overgrown rubble, save for a vile desecration left in the place the shrine had resided.
If any wish more details, or could provide insight, please do not hesitate to write me.

I remember the feeling of dread in my breast.
There's a different group of people going this time. Different people I care for.
I know the necessity. I know why they're going.
I've seen the foe they face.
But I can't banish the dread this time, either.
Be safe. Be victorious.
Return home to me.
Please.

I must adjust my thinking, approach this as I would any other experiment. Knowledge, in all its forms, merits diligent pursuit. Even this.
It is, at least, a rather lovely weapon.

I rarely sleep before we deploy; tonight is no different.
I'm not scared. I'm not excited. My mind just keeps wandering to the multiple possibilities of what might happen. Am I prepared enough? Did I bring enough supplies and will I be clever enough and quick enough to keep my team safe? Will those people waiting for me back in Arx really miss me if I die? Do I really care if anyone misses me or not?
I want payback; now is my chance to strike the first blow. It may go down in history. It may get censored. But soon - soon we will start fighting back. And I will be one of the first to have that chance.
