Relationship Note on Ezmeralda

The Marquessa's offer is generous, but given the circumstances I think she'd prefer the Templars remain focused on the Skal'dajan threat, rather than devote more attention to her. I admit, however, that I'm often wrong about the priorities of certain members of the Peerage when it comes to seeing to the defense of the Compact versus petty political posturing.

In either case, I'm afraid we must decline. Policing her territory is the duty of Leporidae's soldiers, and not the military arm of the Faith; but it's somewhat understandable that her borders are in the poor state she describes if she's been making the mistake of assuming that's the reason for our presence in her domain.

A house fell on me today, Scholar. What? No, no, nothing like that. If my wife beats me it's in the ring at the Hollows, like it should be. Besides, that's no-one's business but our own.

No, it's not a joke, it's not me playing with words, it actually happened. A house fell on me. Truly. And it'd have been a lot worse if my wife hadn't - look, we haven't got that sort of relationship, alright?

Sod this for a game of armsmen. I'm going to go find another Scholar to talk to.

A dinner with the family went very well, and the dancing afterwards was good to watch. I do not think most of the assembled had thought of the eyes on potatoes, but I realised it and could not resist. It was the first time I had played that game, and I hope I did it justice.

We are not made of flesh and bone. Nor by some history our family might happen to own.

We are made by the lives we make and the actions we take.

Relationship Note on Galen

The best days are the days that my husband comes home from sea. To be with him reminds me of all of the good times we've had and allows all the troubles to fade peacefully into the background. I can be happy, no matter how heavy my burden, for he makes the duty of marriage worthwhile.

Apology accepted. Following the lead of those who have reached out to me, I too, shall do my best to make amends. Through the Whisper House I will make sure to have a donation paid to the Faith and the charity of Princess-Consort Alarissa's choosing if she wishes to contact me and let me know.

We are grateful for the Archlector Brigida's wisdom and will endeavor to be as faithful as she in the future.

Duke Laurent put on a really exciting jousting tournament! I should practice so I can try next time. Why wouldn't I want to take part of something where the point is to rush at someone really quickly while holding a sharp, pointy object?

We are overjoyed by the amount of support we have gotten from our Peers. Now the Faith has decided to dispatch additional resources and Templars to the Southeastern Saffron as well. Such news brings hope to those who have suffered during the recent war. Unfortunately any and all plots of land we have were already surveyed and spoken for since we have had and continue to have a massive influx of new allies who wish to join the Leporidae, and by extension the Compact. After speaking with my ministers though we managed to find just the place where these new Templars and resources would be most welcome. Blackrock.

On the furthest reaches of our domains, bordering that with our Vaevici neighbors, there is the most quaint isle in our possession that used to be an old outpost. We ceased trying to man it though because of all the difficulties we encountered trying to live there. Anytime we manned the tiny keep, it was soon overwhelmed by the violent Shav'arvani but we have managed to since negotiate a very firm understanding and we are positive the aging walls of the keep will hold. Though it could not possibly support a garrison of more than a paltry few dozen but this should more than suffice to support these new Templars and any other members of the Faith who will be arriving to support them in this.

There are still other considerations to worry about such as the lack of a very large populace, when last surveyed there were maybe a few dozen people who traditionally called this place home and they were mostly slaughtered wholesale by the Blackreave. Still there are some who have chosen to return to that place. Of course the new ailments and illnesses can be quite nasty but we will pray that Lagoma shields them from the worst of it. The wildlife is quite vicious as well, we have lost many patrols to the massive black jungle cats, water dragons, carnivorous fish and venomous snakes but our friendly guides on the island will be sure to lend their help to these new arrivals so they can avoid falling prey to the same mistakes we once did.

We, the people of Tremorus, look forward to guiding in our new friends not just because we are excited to welcome the best the Faith has to offer to our lands but without someone very familiar with the waters their ships would end up crushed against the rocks or gutted in the jagged rocks of the shoals and we want them to encounter as little difficulty as possible acclimating to the Southeastern Saffron. Praise be to the Carnifex in all his wisdom and generosity for thinking of us in such trying times. With the coming Crusade on Skal'daja we wonder how they cannot possibly be stretched so thin doing us such a kindness. Instead of doubting, we shall praise the Gods and their earthly representatives.

We will prepare a welcome feast at once.

I know that there are times I have been in the doldrums and wished I were back in my home, the Bonespire.

Now more than ever I wish that. There is no concept of Prodigals, as we are all the same.

However, there is a concept of outsiders. I am more welcoming than my brethren. I have settled in your City. I have contributed to your economy. My children are raised here. I have embraced your customs. And yet, I am still nothing more than dirt on someone's shoe, from the sounds of it - whether it be because of my commoner status or because I am a Prodigal. Or both.

It may be time for a trip home.

Bring faith to the gods. Bring compassion to your fellows. Leave your nonsense at the door. Or if you must keep it, keep it inside your head and do not trouble me with it.

I have said those words before, many years ago and they still hold true now as far as I am concerned.

I've come across plenty of whites talking about abandoned and prodigal alike.
People offering their views both good and bad on the people who bent the knee or who haven't.

To those who treat the prodigals and abandoned as shit to be wiped off the bottom of their boots.. Know this, Everything we do is watched.
The gods see us, they watch us and know. They see how you treat your betters, they witness how you treat those beneath your station.

And one day we all answer for how we treat others. The gods know.. And to pretend they do not isn't a foolish act it is an act of deceiving yourself with delusions of your own grandeur.

The gods know..and the gods sure as fuck care.

And they expect more from us.. they expect us to do better..

Runner up at both the Valardin Jubilee dance, and the Spring Joust this year. Given the competition faced, I can't be disappointed with the results. I was just happy to have given Uncle Norwood a serious challenge in the finals, and for not embarrassing Gianna too badly at the dance. Though I'll have to learn some new steps for next time.

It's a truth the oaths between the Compact and the Abandoned were broken.

They broke when the lords fled their lands to seek shelter in the great stone walls of Arx, and left them they'd sworn protection to face the Breaking of the World.

Thoughts of a student.... on the abandoned... and prodigals and neo-noble....

Not all whom are called abandoned, choose to abandon the Compact. In the years of the Reckoning, many were abandoned by the Compact.
History is written by the victors, and some victors decide to hide that which paints them in a dark light... History isn't written by those who were lost, when the battles were lost, we don't remember those who were left behind. Clearly, otherwise we wouldn't be finding so many and having them join us in recent history! I remember such tales when I was a kid, first hearing about all the refugees coming to join us in the lowers. How that swelled the numbers in the orphanage.

As for prodigals? The ones I know, have a fresh set of ideas and are helpful in changing the world around them for the better. Apparently, to remain unchanged, is a bad reflection. So I'm glad they're changing, rejoining the Compact. It's good for them, and us. We have a lot more friends to make now, that is our choice. However, I recommend rather than declare all of one people, one thing, like an oath breaker or pardoned criminal, let us allow them to show their merits through what they do, with their actions, and not darken their opportunities by xenophobia.

And then there's people like me. I was adopted, from a man who took a chance on me. I vow to do the same as he has done, to adopt those who hold merit and show their worth. In a discussion I had once, I did get screamed at for being a neo-noble, as I did not have the blood of a noble in my veins. I reflected. Yes, I don't know my parents, but neither do you. They could be someone who has claims to land, or they could be poor souls caught up in the wars. I don't know. There's limited ways in knowing. The point is, by my status, it is assumed my bloodline didn't have the same opportunity as noble bloodlines, which is, an ancestor bred with an elf or dragon, or some such beast. Apparently that makes noble blood, noble. Merit doesn't matter, and will never matter, as nobility is in the blood.

Until we make it matter less. We can change, or we can stay the same.
