I was stopped in the square by the Iron Guard yesterday. It delayed me somewhat, but fortunately the person I was meeting was not overly upset at my tardiness. And the Iron Guard was quite pleasant about it.

That's the second time I've been stopped on my way through the square just today, and the markets are in a shambles, too. I sincerely hope there's a reason and end to this.

Relationship Note on Porter

While times have removed our social activities from each other, it has never once removed him from my heart. He has been and will forever remain my favorite chariot ride around the city on our first meeting. For a while, he was a constant friend and I adore every memory that has ever been made. I even got my most sacred of answers and callings at his event.

This said. I have heard the most horrid tale that his person might be in a form of danger. I do not believe a person could think such harsh things about the man. He has his own brand of humor sometimes, but his heart is well. We should only be judged for our hearts and our duty. I would have it known that if I need to talk to someone to convince them of his valor; I would be more than willing.

Failing that. I have never shied away from offering my sword when it was needed.

My most beloved readers,

I just wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts today. I had a most lovely talk with the Iron Guard as they stopped me today. I didn't have anything of interest, but they did remark on Kindness. I do so love my sword. They also said that I forgot to peace knot it. We talked a moment about Limerance and the sacred nature of fealty and duty. I do believe they are going to stop by the shrine later. I made sure to have extra cookies and muffins there. It is a lot of work to protect the citizens; especially when each fealty has it's own code of conduct. It just reminds me how beautiful it is that we all blend together so seamlessly.

I just ask, darlings, that should you find your heart heavy with the burden of war - do know you are not alone. The Gods do not always reply how we would like to believe, but they listen. Your hearts are known to them. The concepts that we embrace. I ask even when the guards are doing their duty, that we treat them with kindness. I am sure that some are put out by such things, but most Beloved; they sometimes have to ask as they must to protect that which they do. We have enough enemies to not look within to find more. Travel safe and travel with kindness and love.

News reached me of Lord Waylan Nightcove's death at Stormward. One might suspect I would rejoice in such news - particularly given that he abducted me once and made an attempt a second time, but all I can feel is deep sadness. He was surprisingly pleasant in all our dealings. And, in all honesty, I have become weary of war. Has there been a moment of peace since I was born? It feels like there has not. The Tor-Southport War, Argento, Silent, Gyre... Time after time, we find ourselves pitted against not only outside forces but against ourselves. I was too young or too far removed to have a role in war until the last several years, but now that I do? I would not wish this on anyone. No, not even my enemies.

Losing family, friends... Experiencing the heartbreak of betrayal and confusion when honor and duty are in conflict... I worry for all our souls as we navigate these waters.

Relationship Note on Gaspard

While the devotion to replace one with two is certainly appealing, let it not leave weaknesses elsewhere. For two farmers drafted up, out of the fields, reduces production for those who remain behind. It risks the price of goods, and the production of food, and has the potential to reduce morale. Saying goodbye to a loved one, when replacing another life lost in a war, will set hearts to fear the worst.

While sheer numbers look good, and a rallying call can work, warfare is never just who has the most on the battlelines - but who can also retain the hearts of those back home.

Titus, remember this.

Many pursue wealth or power, thinking these things are most important in life and they spend each waking moment plotting and planning how to acquire more and more.

Understand that you will be unable to take mountains of gems or silver, epic weapons or other things beyond the veil. However you can always build legacies that continue on for generations.

It's said wise is the mother who plants the trees that will give shade, lumber and food to her daughter's people long after she is gone.

Understanding this, what am I establishing as a legacy?

Of all the people who have jokingly said they would propose to me over my poetry -- and there have been a few -- not one has been my husband. Really, Orland.

He did actually propose to me though, so I suppose that counts for something.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

It may be reassuring for you to see the Iron Guard in the city, but it's not so reassuring for those of us who have to do business. I doubt it's reassuring for the carters who're trying to convey goods into the Redrain Ward, one of whom had been sitting in the queue for an hour with fresh fish spoiling in the sun. I doubt it's reassuring for the merchants whose wares land in the Lowers and then have to go up the roads to feed the city. It's definitely not reassuring for me, either. I can't afford the time it now takes me to get something to eat in the central market. I have to set out an hour early if I want to go anywhere with a checkpoint - which means I have to set out early to go anywhere, because I never know where the checkpoints will have appeared.

I've been searched three times today. It's not doing much for the state of my temper, and I doubt it's doing much for the safety of the city either. All it's doing is inconveniencing those who travel and those who work and those who do business across this mighty city of ours. And if they try and put a checkpoint across the main road from the Lowers, well, that's going to get interesting given it's where most of the food comes in.

Although, thinking about it, people will be more inclined to sell their wares in the Lowers if it means they don't have to join the queue to get out. So roll on! Checkpoints everywhere! Search everything! And let's have prices in the Lowers drop to next to nothing as a result, because getting out to the rest of you will be far too much like time and effort.

With all the devastation in the Thraxian civil war, all the upset and commotion of Arx these days, all those who lose their lives or lose life as they know it, my heart goes out to the people of Arvum. I have known great loss and experienced wounds that will never be truly gone. I wish I could spare others that pain, but I cannot. All I can hope is that those left behind will find grace enough to heal.

Life continues. When the forest burns to the ground, somehow life returns. The trees take a long time to regrow, but they regrow and regrow stronger. The birds return. The bear marks the new trunks and so reestablishes his territory. Seeds that were already blanketed by earth are enriched by the ash, and the flowers reappear during their appointed season.

May we be as the forest. May the worst cause us to grow with renewed vigor and rest safely in the knowledge that life doesn't just give up.

First time walking the path I'm meant for.

I break my ankle.

I'm taking this as a sign that I'm going the right way.

No scholar, I will -not- stop laughing. When I get home I'll get laughed at more, and I'll take it all in stride-

[The scholar notes that Tanith would not stop laughing, and in fact snorted several times, and had nothing else coherent to say once she got herself under control.]

I am so excited to begin this courtship with Mork. He has been an amazing pillar for when I've needed to recolor my shoes before an event. Wait no, that was Matherus. Okay so Mork has been a great friend in these lonely times who has gifted me this lovely perfume. I am so excited for the days that follow.

Relationship Note on Porter

I consider Porter Kennex to be both a surprisingly driven subordinate and a personal friend. In him, the grace of Gild is as a balm to the spirit: industry, energy, charity, generosity.

He is a brother of the Faith and the Voice of Gild.

I strongly suggest that, if anyone was thinking of doing anything to him, they reconsider this course before they find that the righteous wroth of the Faith can freely accommodate more than one target.

To All Concerned:

Attacking the Mercies was not the smartest move to make. Continuing to threaten those of the Faith is not the smartest move to make. Please don't do that. Things will get really messy really fast.

If you or someone you know is having homicidal ideation towards a member of the Faith, the Shrine of the Thirteenth God strongly recommends seeking immediate medical care and probably a few weeks spent in Reflection under the care of an experienced Mirrormask.

It's reassuring to see the Iron Guard out in full force, safeguarding the people of this city.

I'm certain no one would want to experience another dangerous attack in the city like when heretics burned down the cathedral or that attack on the Whisper House.

Do not drink to excess, and spin yourself on a stool in competition with others to see who could outlast the other participants. It ends poorly for all involved, drinkers and observers.
