Comments and Log

It's a lovely summer morning, and the air is fresh and the breeze is lively as it blows across the stands. It's early enough that the summer heat is not yet oppressive, and the course is set so that no one's armor is going to be throwing any glints into anyone's eyes. Alecstazi and Sorrel have taken the field while Oddmun and Zara speak nearby. Spectators settles in, ready for the THROWDOWN.

Sorrel has joined the Field.

Darren comes a-wandering in to the Tournament Grounds, guards and dog by his side. The high lord makes his way over to the seating, giving a small nod and smile to those already present, and his eyes turn to the tournament, keenly interested in the upcoming fight.

Sina makes her way in to the tournament grounds. She rarely shows up for these things, but she does for this one, for whatever reason. The Archscholar is dressed rather simply today, in a plain black dress, her long hair braided down her back. She realizes she's a little late, and quickly moves off to find a place to sit and watch.

Sina has joined the General Seating.

Kastelon kneels on the outskirts of the grounds to ruffle the furry folds around his bloodhound's neck, and gives the dog an affectionate nod. Then he rises and strides over to the benches. The hound sits politely at his feet. They both turn their eyes on the proceedings.

Kastelon has joined the General Seating.

Count Philippe leads a small delegation of Blanchard and friends to the joust. It's always a good day for a joust. The old man is in higher spirits than usual today. Why, he's even threatened to smile without being prompted by his majordomo or nettled into it by his children. He plods along toward the general seating, though he angles to sit near the front because of his expertise in jousting matters. Also stairs are hard when you're in late middle age.

Kiera has joined the General Seating.

The Whitehawk couple are out and about - maybe the promise of HORSES drew them both here, cause they're both animal lovers. Holding Elora's arm on his, Jyri squints around with his one eye and spots a few familiar faces, polite nods given and some sounds that are likely greetings; they sound friendly, at least, and he looks like he looks forward to this. He steers them towards the general seatings and joins in with the crowd.

Jyri has joined the General Seating.

2 Whitehawk Guards arrives, following Sapphira.

"Ah, I spy the Grandmaster," Aureth says, his hands falling to his hips as he turns to face the stands. His eyebrows up, he pitches his voice to carry: "Preston! Do you wish to give a prayer to Gloria when our hosts open the proceedings? I assumed Her Highness was going to ask me, but I could cede gracefully to you, or we could thumb-wrestle for it." Presumably, this is a joke.

Katarina stands back and to the left a bit of Zara for a long moment, watching silently to see if Oddmun recants his claims. She doesn't dare interrupt. When it becomes pretty much immediately clear that this duel is going forward, though, Katarina turns and begins walking to join Cristoph up in the high, high seats. She makes sure to pass within view of Sorrel as she does so, to give her an encouraging Princessly nod, and also to pass within view of pretty much everyone else as well, because she's a Princess and she likes being seen at social affairs. Only once she reaches the high stands does she finally sit down and say to Cristoph, "This isn't fair. Your legs are much longer than mine. And your heels, much shorter. All those steps..."

Verity Locke, the ever-faithful courtier, arrives following Philippe. She is dressed befitting a modest house, wearing a linen work dress that is pleasantly arranged but does little to catch the eye amongst the gathered nobility. She is already having some kind of walking fainting spell. "Oh, who would have thought that our dear horses would be threatened by such a competition! I'm shot full of wounded nerves and desperate woe!" She still has enough presence of mind to help Philippe find a seat and then settle in next to him, at least.

Verity has joined the General Seating.

Elora has joined the General Seating.

Sorrel is showing off her favor from Zara, which she has tied in her hair, and she waves to all as they meander in to watch the joust. She smiles and looks cheerful and she's happily amused to be jousting today.

"Then we will leave it to the Champions," Zara says, inclining her head to Oddmun with the respectful salute of a duelist to her opposite -- although the metaphor's a bit muddled with all the dueling being done by others. Turning to Aureth to indeed ask, she watches him address Preston and looks between them with eyes bright. "Legate, Grandmaster, whoever should win your thumb-wrestling, I would be honored if you would open us with a prayer."

A group of grooms have been working on His Grace, Alecstazi's massive red roan destrier since they arrived, and as Alec disengages from his greetings, he returns to his horse's side. The grooms have been hard at work, and as they back away, that work is made obvious. Bone and silver charms and talismans have been braided into the blood-red mane and tail. Tiny bells that sing musically with each toss of the head or flick of the tail, transforming the Maelstrom horse into a proud Horse of the North. Alecstazi adjusts his armor and goes to collect the first of his lances before mounting up.

Domonico enters the area, looking as serious as he always does, his eyes sweeping over the gathered people and spotting those he knows. He pauses, stands straight as he adjusts his bracers before joining the general seating area, eyes narrowed as he looks over the spectacle. Whether he is impressed by this is hard to say.

"It is as you wish, Father Aureth" Preston says, stopping on his ascent up the stairs to turn and look to the Legate "I am content for you to do it, for Gloria heard plenty of my voice in her ears. But if you feel it more appropriate, then I yield to your wisdom" Pulling back his robes hood, he bows more formally to Aureth.

The mini-horse is indeed here. Not only is it here, but it has a large plush dressed as a knight sitting on it as it's being led around. Because clearly, it needs to be shown off! Artshall mount. Redrain colors. It works? Maybe? Oddmun doesn't care, really, he's not back down from the challenge. "My champion will speak for me, Your Highness." he offers with a lift of his chin in defiance of the Valardin Princess. "For you have not only insulted me. But you hurt Umber's feelings." He pats the horse's side affectionately, looking around to see if the bard arrived yet.

Drake wouldn't miss seeing a good joust, having arrived slightly before the other Blanchard folks and settling himself into the general benches. He's got a good slouching posture as usual. Seeing Philippe and cohort, he gives a wave. He's watching Sorrel with a look of amusment on his face.

Dimitri's giving a bob of his head in the direction of Thea, smile dancing to his lips as he offers up, "Beyond interesting, I do believe." A grin then, another sip of his drink and he's looking towards the jousting area.

Nurie studies Aureth's gestures, taking them in with a keen eye. It's also drawn to the fact that the Legate's hair looks--very simply put--extremely fabulous in its updo. She gives him an exaggerated wink, a thumbs up, and then a mimed pat on her own rear after pointing to her own hair. Defintely confirming that yes, that hair is definitely an asset, if that's what he was asking!

Casually sitting, Thea is already appearing comfortable. Flask in hand, she looks over her shoulders at those sitting nearby,"Do you think if the northern end loses, he'll have to have the horse sent to him wear a sweater as well?" She may be joking. She may not be. That was an odd conversation in itself. Spying Sorrel, the Malvici smiles a bit. Obviously bets are on her but she gives a polite nod to Alecstazi as well.

Hans the Helpful arrives, following Magnus.

Quiet, a Valardin champion, A dutiful Valardin aide, 2 Valardin Knights leave, following Katarina.

Quiet, a Valardin champion, A dutiful Valardin aide, 2 Valardin Knights arrive, following Katarina.

Katarina has joined the High Booth.

Ysabel has joined the the Concessions Tent.

1 Crimson Blades Sergeant, Rurik, a prodigal assistant, Aegis, a large red Oakhaven bloodhound arrive, following Mirk.

"Perhaps if you walk up a great many steps more often, your legs will grow longer," Cristoph suggests to Katarina as he stretchs his own out in front of him. She's offered a slip of a smile, enough to show the remark is in jest before he looks down at the field. "It's a good for this," he decides.

Better late than never, Alessia hurries to her Malvici friend, giving her a surprise (unless she'd spotted her) hug from the row behind. "How've you been?" She asks, not yet letting go.

Also scurrying in is Ysabel, who darts straight for the refreshment tents.

Aureth bows elaborately to Preston from his position on the field, and says, "I'm merely testing your mettle in courtesy, Grandmaster, but since you have already found your seat and I am down here, it would little aid anyone for me to haul you back down here. Princess Zara, Lord Oddmun." He turns bows to each of the hosts, each one an exercise that is a minor risk to the elaborate twists of hair wound through his combs, and then stands straight. Pitching his voice to carry, he calls:

"It is a time-honored tradition of the Compact to perform a duel in honor of Gloria to settle disputes of honor between the honorable, and we pray now under the summer sun for her grace to alight upon these competitors. May they perform their feats of arms and let honor be upheld in the triumph of the victor with our thanks and love to Her. Praise Gloria."

Sorrel mounts up and walks her horse to the end of the lane after a quick conference with Alecstazi, though she pauses a moment to bow her head in prayer as Aureth offers the opening devotion to the event. And then, she prepares to joust.

"Then I feel as though I am owed to be twenty feet tall," Katarina replies to Cristoph with a muted little smile. She also turns her eyes down to the field, and nods. "I quite like your tiara," she comments idly, without looking -- her eyes are on Aureth and his emceeing.

Preston is overheard praising Aureth: He said honour several times! Praise Gloria! Huzzah!

Thea is about to greet MORE people before GODS, there are ARMS! But familiar ones at least. The Malvici laughs a little and turns Alessia,"Hey Mazetti. How are you,"turning toward her friend. "I've been all over the place. Recently? Stealing Eirene children to get a wedding gift done. Was a needed break from work." She'd hug her back, but she's TRAPPED! "You're going, right?!"

Kiera comes to find a sert by her brother quietly, eager for the joy of watching the horses and fighters go at it regardless of the outcome

Slightly late but right on time to catch the beginning of the duel, it would appear. Mirk heads into the stands, though on his way he makes a point of catching Oddmun's eye and giving his cousin a nod in greeting. Then his attention is sidetracked by making his way hurriedly through the crowds to find a seat before he misses anything of importance.

Might as well drop by a fight now that Magnus had come back into town. Literally he might've been on his back to the Redrain ward when he spied the crowd gathering in the ground. Inquisitive as always, might as well investigate, only to find it's a duel. Coming up just after the opening prayer, he cocks his head, height allowing him to look over the majority of the gathered crowed from his spot in the back. "What's the fight about?" he asks to no one in particular, or whoever he might be standing next to. Which could be anyone!

"Praise Gloria," Zara says in echo of Aureth. "Gods ride with you, Princess Sorrel, and strengthen your lance." With that, she retires from the field with Oddmun, tilting her head toward to say something that seems to be complimentary for the tone and her expression, although the words are lost in the general noise of the crowd.

Sapphira arrives just a few minutes later, having been determined to look her best for the event. It's as well it's not very far from home, as she is not quite yet as well-acquainted with riding a horse properly in a gown! And what a gown it is, of pale blue silk with small silver stars embroidered throughout, close-fitting sleeves to the elbow and flaring out to the wrists. The neckline is square and low, showing a ladylike amount of decolletage. The ankle-length skirt flares out in a lovely bell-like shape, not held out quite so stiffly, but flowing with each step she takes. The neckline, cuffs, and hem are all edged with silver lace, and she has a pair of blue silk slippers dyed to match. Her hair is caught up on either side with a silver comb bedecked with freshwater pearls, and on her back is, as always, slung her gittern case.

Smiling as she sees Oddmun, she approaches to join him, but greeting Zara first with a deep curtsey. "Your Highness," she intones, smiling warmly, threading one arm through Oddmun's as she rises.

Preston takes his seat, adjusting his swords across his lap so he doesn't stab anyone behind him in a brutal accident. As Aureth gives the paryer, Preston claps after and murmers about how good the prayer was to his neighbours. Some people come for the main act, but the true connisseur? They come for the warm up.

Zara has joined the Judges Booth.

"PRAISE GLORIA!" The former Thrax Prince bellows the words, a wide smile visible as a line of white within the very properly Northern beard he has taken to wearing, no matter the heat of the summer. Alec pockets his lance under his arm, and sits back hard, pulling the reins gently. His Grace rears back, lashing his forelegs out as he slowly spins in an obviously practiced maneuver that is both showy and likely deadly to ground combatants. He returns to all four hooves and flicks his tail as he trots to the post, looking to be in fine spirits. Alec puts on his helmet and settles in, a serious look on his face before he lowers the visor.

A new entry to the grounds is Aswin Ulbran. The man doesn't seem overly troubled that he's late, and only a cursory glances is given to the affairs already taking place. His eyes sweep across those speaking before he moves off to find a seat.

Alessia has joined the General Seating.

"Of course, I am. They had me at arm wrestling and the throwing of weapons." Alessia assures her - /possibly/ joking about the last part. She eventually lets her go, to settle onto a seat, like the good friend she is.

Slipping off of the horse once the prayers are done, Oddmun bows his head. "Thank you for your prayers." he offers as Sapphira joins him and his arm is taken. "Shall we take to the booth?" he offers to her, before leading Sapphira to the seating area to prepare for the joust.

Aswin has joined the Quiet Booth.

Oddmun has joined the Judges Booth.

Mirk has joined the High Booth.

Drake gives Kiera a nod as she comes to sit near him, but the prayer is an important rite for his attention, as a Champion himself. "Praise Gloria!" he also joins in, and then settles back again to watch as Sorrel mounts up.

Sina bows her head for the prayer, then settles into her seat and watches the jousters as they are about to take to the field. Seeing Sorrel, she brightens, and looks decidedly more interested, though she remains fairly quiet. She does lean forward a bit though in anticipation, her head craning a bit to see over the heads of those in front of her.

Domonico bows his head in acknowledgement of the prayer before he leans forward, watching the proceedings intensely before he notices his sister being hug attacked by Alessia andoffers them both a half wave, half salute.

Elora Whitehawk arrives with Jyri and smiles at some familiar faces as they pass by. A wave is then given to her cousin, Lady Sapphira, and then to Lord Oddmun right before she finds seating that has a decent view of the grounds. She bows her head during the prayer and then looks up at the Champions preparing for the duel.

Philippe is always good for a rousing display of piety, bowing his head when the prayer begins. "Praise Gloria," he says, with reverence, looking up once the prayer has ended. NOW he can get a drink from his flask.

Sapphira has joined the Judges Booth.

Having finshed with his prayer, Aureth hastens over to the benches, scaling them to head over to Nurie's area of the general benches. "Thank you for the compliment, I was hoping you'd save me a spot." You'd think the Legate would climb higher to the high booth buuuut he almost never does.

Aureth has joined the General Seating.

Giving a light little cluck of his tongue, Dimitri lets his gaze play about the area for a moment, offering a little nod to people as he lifts his wine to his lips. Shrugging off from his seat at the beverage tent, he's beginning to make his way over towards the General Seating area in order to claim a seat there.

Dimitri has left the the Beverage Tent.

Dimitri has joined the General Seating.

"Praise Gloria!" Sorrel calls brightly, and she waves to those in the crowd that have called out to her, including Sina and Drake and others that she probably missed in all the chaos of a well-attended Champion's joust. And then, she prepares to ride against Alecstazi.

Sorrel checked dexterity + ride at difficulty 30, rolling 21 higher.

Alecstazi checked dexterity + ride at difficulty 30, rolling 21 higher.

Magnus has joined the General Seating.

Sorrel checked dexterity + medium wpn at difficulty 9, rolling 45 higher.

Alecstazi checked dexterity + huge wpn at difficulty 9, rolling 46 higher.

Alessia watches the ground intensely, demeanor notably brightening when her cousin triumphs, though she has the etiquette to avoid applauding just yet.

Sapphira bows her head in respect for the prayer, keeping silent long enough to listen. "Praise Gloria!" She glances out to the field, and smiles, moving to sit next to Oddmun. As she spies her cousins, a wave is given to them both, Elora and Jyri, and to any of the Whitehawks she recognizes. No, she'd not shame them this day.

Adalyn arrives just in time to pause for prayers, standing rooted to her spot while bowing her head reverently. Once the moment of worship has concluded, she turns her sights to the benches, hastily claiming a seat so that she may watch the joust unfold and cheer on her fellow Champions.

Nurie pats the seat on the other side of her. "Of course, Father Aureth! And what a lovely blessing. I'm sure it's not the first time, but I've never seen a champion duel fought on horseback yet, it's very exciting. I hope you're well! Have you met Lady Piccola Tessere yet?" And of course, her bag of mini cookies is offered to the Legate as well.

Sina watches as things get going, returning Sorrel's wave with an encouraging smile. She gives one equally encouraging smile to Alecstaszi as well, because she's not playing favorites, really! Then she settles in to watch, sitting on the edge of her seat, while her three Templars hang back inconspicuously nearby. Her assistant Arindais is probably around somewhere too, though he's so unnoticeable and boring that he probably blends in with the furnishings as he goes to fetch the Archscholar a drink.

Jyri grins and waves over to Sapphira seeing her there, lofting a curious eyebrow - but he then focuses on the joust and stares with utter focus.

All the gaiety and flash seems to fade from the Halfshav's body language as he reaches the starting point. He sits his horse like a master, utterly at home in the saddle, the lance held close. At the trumpet that calls for the charge, he touches His Grace's flanks and the horse leaps forward with the eagerness of a horse that loves what it is doing. Tail held high, fluttering like a bloody pennant behind him, those bone and silver charms shivering and bells ringing the horse charges forward with a thunder of hoofbeats, while Alec holds his lance steady, taking aim for Sorrel and landing his blow on her shoulder, the tip breaking off on impact.

Ysabel peeps out from the food and drink tent, watching as things start to happen and the duel is on it's way.

Domonico has barely moved since the joust began and he hardly seems to be even blinking as he leans forward, resting one elbow on his knee.

The jousting is expert. The two are very dramatically and evenly matched, and the favor from Zara streams out like a banner as Sorrel rides at Alecstazi. It is a masterful exchange, brilliantly executed with drama and fervor, but while the Thrax princess from the Oathlands gets in a good hit against the former Thrax prince, the tip of her lance does not break, and the round goes to him.

Thea leans forward, watching the joust closely. She looks over to Domonico and nods,"You know, this is the best time figure out what horse to get me--I mean, you know--for uh, that person as a gift." Thea clears her throat and back to the joust, wondering if she'll have to patch anyone up.

Kiera draws in a breath at the closeness of the exchange. We could be here awhile

As the Champions ride, Zara holds her breath, leaning forward in her seat ever so sli-i-ightly. As the first round end with a clash and Alecstazi landing a blow with a broken lance, she applauds. "Well ridden!" Then she leans forward a little more, scoots forward a little more. Round two!!

Oddmun tenses as he watches the exchange. And when it is Alecstazi's lance that breaks, the Sanna lord lets out a cheer. Sure, it's only one point. But it's a point! And that's what counts! As they prepare to go again, he settles back down to watch the action and draws in his breath.

Bhandn has joined the General Seating.

Upon reaching the end of the lists, Alec tosses his broken lance down and rubs the impacted shoulder. As he accepts a fresh one from his groom, he calls out, "WELL STRUCK PRINCESS SORREL!" There is a grin, visible as his visor is lifted so he can be more easily heard, "YOU FIGHT LIKE AN OATHLANDER!" ...Is that a compliment? From tone and expression -- it is!

Domonico's eyes flick across to his sister and the Magnotta Count quirks a smile briefly before he shakes his head, "You can have a ship. Not a horse."

"A Sanna mount makes for an excellent horse, my Lady!" Oddmun calls out to Thea. Just in case she is in the market.

Sorrel drops her own lance to get a fresh one, and she stretches in the mean time. "I SHOULD HOPE SO!" she calls brightly to her opponent with a broad smile. "YOU RIDE LIKE ONE, TOO!"

Alecstazi checked dexterity + ride at difficulty 30, rolling 20 higher.

Sorrel checked dexterity + ride at difficulty 30, rolling 27 higher.

Alecstazi checked dexterity + huge wpn at difficulty 10, rolling 38 higher.

Sorrel checked dexterity + medium wpn at difficulty 3, rolling 154 higher. Sorrel rolled a critical!

Sapphira chuckles softly, looking aside to Oddmun, her deep cobalt eyes a-twinkle. "My Lord," she chides gently. "I cannot give a song that is not finished. It but awaits the outcome of this duel, for it to be immortalized in verse."

The challenge is issued, and met with the thundering of hooves orchestrated like a fine, yet deadly ballet, lances held proudly outwards towards their foes! "Oh! Well-ridden!" She cannot quite help clapping in appreciation of the skill, honor, and pride displayed thus far, a broad smile upon her face.

Hearing Oddum, Thea shouts back,"That's yet to be seen,"her gold-flecked green eyes lit up with mirth.

For all that Sorrel's mare is somewhat smaller than the average size of horses that are frequently used in jousts, she seems a fierce and sturdy little beast. Sorrel focuses intently on Alecstazi, and she hits him absolutely perfectly, at just the right angle, and her lance practically explodes against him with the power that she hits him with.

Drake claps his hands together once at the solid strike, letting out an almost barking, "Ah! That's the way." Perhaps the honor of Oathlands horses shall be secured indeed this day.

The trumpet calls for the second run, and Alec flips his visor down once more. His body language is looser, more cocky at the start of this run, His Grace just as perfect and eager to run. Alec's mirroring his previous run to the T, not adapting or adjusting his method in any discernable way. He brings up his lance, hitting Sorrel in the same shoulder as before, his lance tip breaking -- but before he can celebrate, Sorrel's lance hits him in the side with an absolutely crushing power. The Halfshav lord is violently thrown from his horse, sailing through the air with bits of lance embedded in his side as he lands hard on his back. He lays there, breathless, staring up at the sky while grooms come running. The bits of lance are pried out of his crumpled armor, and after a few seconds, Alec holds up his hand to get some assistance in first sitting, then standing. A healer arrives and seems to do a few checks, but Alec shakes his head and grins before moving over to His Grace and mounting up again. Seems game is still on!

Kastelon rises from the seat he's in to clap somberly, but with obviously restrained Oathlander glee. The hound at his feet rises and gives a single bark, which could be a cheer for Sorrel.

Philippe shouts in affirmation of Sorrel, but the details are lost in the crowd noise. The old man is pleased, though, that much is sure.

Adalyn perks up from her spot in the stands, cheering to let her approval be known at how dramatically close the first tilt is, how impressively Sorrel's lance shatters during the second. Her gaze is fastened upon the pair, noting their ease in the saddles, their handling of the lances. With the reputation of the Oathlands involved, her attention is fully invested.

It's only round two, but that hit was so _splendid_, so _perfect_ that Zara leans forward so hard that she just comes to her feet. There's a worried moment as Alecstazi recovers, and then--. She releases a visible breath of relief. She doesn't _shout_, she calls, which is totally different: "Praise Gloria! Excellent, Princess Sorrel! Bravely done, Lord Alecstazi!" Then she just stays standing, and it's a good thing she's not in the stands with everyone else, or she'd be blocking people. She's too excited to sit back down again. You can't tell by _anything_ about her expression or manner: she's totally still, completely composed, but the fact that she's on her feet says everything.

Kiera winces at the splintering sound and the force of the blow "good gods" though she applauds heartily

Darren visibly winces as Alecstazi hits the ground and Sorrel's lance explodes. The High Lord claps loudly, "A good hit!" he calls, nodding his approval as Alecstazi gets back to his feet.

Aureth whistles.

There's a sharp breath from Oddmun when Alex is struck so hard and goes down. Rising to his feet, he almost seems prepared to accept things--but when his champion rises to his feet and remounts, he gives a whoop of cheer, not just for Sorrel's hit--but Alec getting back to his feet again and remounting for another round.

There's an incredibly LOUD, shrill cheer of delight that comes from the high stands when Sorrel makes her decisive strike. And then, after that astonishingly loud cry, Katarina sits back down, acting as though nothing ever happened.

Dimitri has left the General Seating.

Domonico lets out a little 'hmmm' at the strike, nodding in grudging approval.

Rising from her seat when Alecstazi's thrown off his horse, Alessia scans the grounds to ensure he can get back up. Only then does she lower herself onto her seat and applaud the victor of that round. "Impressive." She smiles faintly.

Sapphira very nearly gets to her feet as Sorrel makes her strike, her brows furrowing with concern as Alex is felled from his mount. But when he not only gets back to his feet, but mounts up once more, she /does/ rise to stand, cheering. "Well-done, both of you! Praise Gloria!" Indeed, she thought, as she sat back down next to Oddmun, she would sing many a song of this day--no matter who won.

Preston is overheard praising Sorrel: Graceful as a swan, sings like a lark, hits like bear launched by a trebuchet powered by several further bears.

Thea can clearly be heard cheering for Sorrel. The lycene nothing like her brother, notably. She looks over to Drake and winks,"You were saying?" Thea then naturally goes to stand, to check to see if anyone was injured. Instinct is a thing!

Sapphira is overheard praising Alecstazi: Though he be struck down hard, Hear the words of this simple bard, With courage and fortitude yet he rides, This round, mayhaps he will turn the tide!

Mr Farley, an overtly decorous assistant arrives, following Karina.

Piccola has left the General Seating.

Alec is sitting in a guarded stance on his horse, clearly favoring his side. As he turns, the reason for that is visible -- Sorrel's blow not only dented his armor, but tore the metal, leaving actual rents in the plate. There is a bit of blood on the Halfshav's armor, but as he takes position, he forces himself into a proper sit. This time, like the first run, there is no cockiness, that has been knocked clean out of him. He is serious, he is calm. At the trumpet, he touches His Grace's flanks and the horse bolts forward. Alec aims his lance at Sorrel and this time, he hits dead center mass and his lance shatters, sending splinters flying. He does not escape unscathed, taking another blow, though this time, he remains seated.

Icelyn has joined the General Seating.

Sorrel barely stays horsed this time, what with Alecstazi's determination after her last blow. She gets a very decent hit on him, but in the end, it's just not enough. His lance shatters against her, and she huffs for air, the wind knocked out of her. But it is a good ride, and it is a good joust, and as she catches her breath, she smiles at her opponent in appreciation.

Nurie has left the General Seating.

Karina Weaving her way through the throngs milling within the tournament grounds, Farley at her heels, Karina ascends into the general seating area. Spying an open place between two individuals, she eases into it with a reticent smile, turning her gaze upon the field as though she is not, in fact, terribly late in arriving to observe the duel.

Kiera is overheard praising Sorrel: the blood of the dragon surely showed up today

It's clear as they strike that Alecstazi's come away with a clean victory, even with Sorrel's shattering blow. Zara steps down from her seat, applauding for the champions as the joust comes to an end. "Princess Sorrel, you rode splendidly, thank you. But Lord Alecstazi, you've shown incredible courage and mettle, just as the horses of the north." She turns to Oddmun and inclines her head to him, saying, "Lord Oddmun, I salute you and your Champion in your victory. I apologize for insisting on the superiority of the western horse. I salute Sanna, your hoses and your trainers, and I hope to work with you to bring the best traits of your blood into the lines of the western warhorse."

Zara is overheard praising Sorrel: A most splendid champion! A blow out of the storybooks.

Zara is overheard praising Alecstazi: His courage and determination are without peer!

Magnus is overheard praising Sorrel: The strength of your lance is staggering.

Zara is overheard praising Sanna: They have pretty good horses, actually.

Sapphira is overheard praising Alecstazi: Though the champion wounded be, Yet bravely he did ride, His lance did shatter on the lady's shield, Though blood flowed from his side.

Nurie is overheard praising Sorrel.

Zara is overheard praising Valardin: The sweaters will always be cutest.

Nurie is overheard praising Alecstazi.

Magnus is overheard praising Alecstazi: You have gall for withstanding a blow like that. I approve.

Nurie is overheard praising Oddmun.

Nurie is overheard praising Zara.

Oddmun is overheard praising Alecstazi: Standing strong in the saddle, despite the strongest of attacks, he resolved to remain and in the end, won the day.

Magnus is overheard praising Aureth: Thank you for offering me knowledge of duels.

Mirk is overheard praising Alecstazi.

Drake watches the next pass. To him it was not as spectacular as the previous, but he has to applaud a graceful victory and a good show from both riders. He gives a few claps, and then pats Philippe once on the shoulder. "Ah, I honestly thought he might be the stronger rider when it came to it. But I don't personally think it reflects so badly on the horses. Sorrel still did well."

Alecstazi is overheard praising Sorrel: You are a reminder that the Old Ways might overlook strengths right before the eyes. Thrax is lucky to have you, for your wit and your charm, and the devastating strength of your arm, oh gods, I think you broke a few ribs. Ow.

Sorrel is overheard praising Alecstazi: An incredible opponent! I am glad to consider him a friend and enjoy the challenge of facing him in the lists!

Sina is overheard praising Sorrel.

Nurie's free hand goes to cover her gasp as the third mutual blow is struck, and the blood flowing from the Halfshav's armor is revealed. But she settles her glass carefully before applauding for both riders who incredibly remain in their seats, and for when the victory is called.

Sina is overheard praising Alecstazi.

Katarina gives Mirk another smile: "Supporting one's family is a wonderful thing. And that is why we have these duels -- to settle it honorably, without such a thing as to draw in cousins and the rest and turn it into a larger battle~."

Preston is overheard praising Sorrel: Though the victory was not yours, Gloria will no doubt favour those who conduct themselves with honour such as yourself.

"That was amazing..." Oddmun is admitting. He might be in a little surprised shock that he actually came out victorious. Blinking at Zara's apology, he lowers his head in a polite nod. "Your apology is accepted and Sanna is grateful for your words and well wishes. Now that this has been properly decided, I believe house Sanna will handle the first round of drink at the Spirits!"

Sapphira is overheard praising Zara: A Princess whose honor is without peer, Graceful in word and deed, Acknowledged without rancor--showing no fear, That Sanna does produce the greatest steed.

Sorrel is overheard praising Zara: It is an honor to ride for you!

Preston is overheard praising Zara: Most gracious. Oathland things are generally better, but perhaps in this case, both have strengths. Shall have to consider Sanna horses as well as Laurent for the next companies of knights.

Thea smiles over at sands. It was was a well fought battle and earned. She looks over at Oddun and nods,"I guess you don't need that sweater after all,"her voice teasing. "But well done,"her tone more serious. Thea looks at Drake and chuckles,"Well--alright then."

Sina offers up cheers for the both of them, her voice lost in the other cheers that rise up from the crowd. Then, she quietly gathers up her satchel and begins to make her way out, looking a little oppressed by the throng and the noise. Once free of the benches, she sets a brisk pace toward the exit.

Kiera is overheard praising Oddmun: well fought and earned victory. much respect to you, your chapion and your beautiful animals

Sina has left the General Seating.

Sebastian, an adorable gray and white tabby, Jacinthe, Arindais, a dour-looking Scholar, 3 Templar Knight guards leave, following Sina.

Pete, a Grayhope account manager arrives, delivering a message to Alessia before departing.

Dismounting his horse, the show is apparently not over for Alec who marches over towards Sorrel, hoists her off her sorrel mare and places her on his shoulder, "THREE CHEERS FOR PRINCESS SORREL! AN HONOR TO GLORIA!"

Kastelon is overheard praising Sorrel.

Kastelon is overheard praising Sorrel.

Kastelon is overheard praising Sorrel.

Cristoph is overheard praising Sorrel.

Cristoph is overheard praising Zara.

Sapphira can only beam with pride at Oddmun, squeezing his hand fiercely as praises are given where they are most certainly due. She rises to her feet, curtseying deeply to Zara first, then turning to look at the Champions, and offering a curtsey to them as well. "Very well-ridden, both of you! I will be certain to remember all of this in song, so none of you are forgotten."

Cristoph is overheard praising Alecstazi.

Aureth calls, "Someone find a healer to look at that man's side! And an armorer, for goodness sakes."

Sorrel squeals and laughs as Alec pulls her from her horse, but she manages to balance herself gracefully, even though she is not a dainty woman what with being such an athlete, and she throws her hands in the air and yells, "FOR GLORIA!"

Philippe is overheard praising Sorrel: As always, a fine showing by a fine champion.

Drake is overheard praising Sorrel: An excellent joust!

Drake is overheard praising Alecstazi: An excellent joust!

Well, maybe Zara and her champion lose, but at least she looks good. She lifts her voice with those cheering the Champions.

Jyri stands up and applauds vigorously to the jousters, looking pleased as pie about this show.

Rising from her seat once again, Alessia cheers for Sorrel. "Well ridden and well fought, your highness." She calls, clapping. She's shaking her head at her cousin, in wonderment that he's still upright. "Gods, are your bones made of alaricite?" She asks Alecstazi, stepping close to the grounds.

Sapphira frowns and sighs softly, glancing down at her hands. "For all these hands can make music, I know little if anything of healing." She glances up at Oddmun. "I wonder if it is a skill I should learn, though gods forbid it should ever be needed."

Magnus stands. "For my first time seeing a joust, it was a good one. Good, impressive combat, if a bit different as far as combat goes. But, that's not a bad thing." Ponderous as he tends to be, he watches a moment longer. "I think I may have to learn more of Gloria beyond what I've been taught." Which probably is only so much.

Jyri has left the General Seating.

When his cousin arrives, he gives a laugh, "I think, dear Alessia, it is only my fiendish pride keeping me upright and dry eyed. Else I would be keening like a broken thing from teh power of Sorrel's might."

Tila has left the Judges Booth.

Katarina stands up again -- this time with much more dignity than whoever did all that screaming earlier -- and joins in with the applause. No shrieking, this time. She seems in good spirits despite 'her side' having lost. "We should do more of these," she comments to those in the high stands with her. "And less 'to the first blood' or such things. Seeing those lances explode is much more satisfying than seeing a blade draw blood -- or, at least, I feel this way~."

Philippe is satisfied with the outcome, moving to stand up. "Horses do not joust," he says to Drake. "Their honor is above such concerns. We joust because we must." He holsters his flask. "Fine grit and courage on both their parts today. Were all these duels so grand and gallant."

Adalyn lifts her voice to join the caucophany of cheers that erupt from the audience. "An exciting joust. Well done, both!" Pleased at the exciting way the event unfolded, she give a whoop of delight and slides out of the stands, the sounds of her exuberant cheers slowly fading as she heads off to deal with whatever has stolen her attention now.

Philippe has left the General Seating.

Drake has left the General Seating.

The joust over, Nurie carefully moves to rise, carefully brushing crumbs away from her skirts and not onto anyone else. "A very good show," she agrees with others nearby. She turns a bright and affectionate smile towards Aureth. "It was lovely to see you again, Father Aureth. And I know I will again soon! But for now I have more preparations to take care of. Be well, until next time!" She curties to Thea as well. "And it was lovely to see you gain as well, my lady."

As the joust comes to it's conclusion, Cristoph gets to his feet. "Thank your Princess Katarina and Lord Mirk, for keeping me company. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your day," he offers to both of them. "Well fought on both of their accounts. Now, I should attend to my duties. Excuse me."
