It's strange to spend longer and longer stretches away from the Lowers. It's becoming easier to, which bothers me.

Maybe I'm feeling it now because this was one of my favorite times of the year. Too hot to run the kiln, hot enough that the lanes don't squish - well, not as much - when you walk them. Little things that were big things.

The shop was always slow around now, too, so I could put my mind to other things.

The Art Festival went magnificently well, but one must confess to the honest truth:
It would not have been so if not for the artists who chose to partake in it.

I owe a debt of gratitude to all assisting hands and those who showcased their art and love for Jayus: From the beautiful ceremony held by Archlector Wylla, to the song of Nightingale Gianna, Princess Denica's marvelous work of art, Caspian Wild's song and Whisper Aconite's dance!

Thank you also to all the artists who donated beautiful paintings and sculptures for the display and to those who honored us with fashionable designs like Ilira Starling and Lord Wash Kennex.

One of the Thrax princesses wishes a song writ. A shanty, as the Arvani call them, but among Eswynders we call such songs a cadence.

Same thing, for the most part: both songs for keeping time, whether hauling on lines, or hauling on oars, while bored out of the skull. Much repetition in such things. A verse sung by one, a chorus sung by all, another verse, oft sung by another. I've seen it done where folk at the oars came up with verses in the moment, with only the time needed for the chorus to compose their next rhyme.

Most of such rhymes were weak, but the Wind cares not: done in the moment, any rhyme will serve.

SLow week. I have not even met Rosa to get trounced by her whirlwind self. I am looking forward to the exercose, too. Just been busy with Elora and with being lazy, I guess. Wandered the docks some as well, looking at shops and making plans for what I might invest in. Still leaning toward a longship with the thought that I might finance some trading and maybe use it to help find the raiders that hit Elora's family. I am a bit tired of having vague ambitions without real action, so I am building plans.

Scholar, in the midst of my halcyon days in Iriscal, I had all manner of lesson taught to me; those that would be expected of one to learn as a young lord with great aspirations. All of that. But, one such steward; Argento, never allowed me to forget one of his most favorite bits of wisdom. As a boy, I would roll my eyes. Though only now do I see the precious truth of his words to me. He would say, "A man's worth falls into place by virtue of the path traveled seeking it." And he would laugh shortly after, no doubt at the puzzled expression on my face.

These past few years, never had I ruminated on these words until only recently. Thoughts of ones close to me, and those that have drifted away, too. If I could meet the young Lord Tessere that rolled up into the streets of Arx some years ago, I would bid for him to not be so quick to find his purpose so readily; a place to belong or serve. For a true home is a oft times a place you travel long and hard to find.

I am truly blessed to have found mine, at last.

For all the time that I spend putting quill to parchment in pursuit of poetry, one might think I'd have little issue with journaling, but I find it's exceedingly difficult to sort my thoughts. They happen, I experience them, and then they're gone. Not forgotten, just... elsewhere? I don't know. I'll try.

I attended Lady Mabelle's Artshall Art festival with Prince Baldessare, though I immediately lost him in the crowd. No one can blame me, I was drawn to a stand selling hot chocolate and caramelized mead and honey apple whiskey and-- a lot more but I can't recall. Joscelin and Marquis Fairen menaced me with what may be the worst joke I've ever heard on the worst subject I've ever known, mathematics, but I eventually fled with Princess Tikva to show her the amazing sketch of a horse by Fortunato that I had displayed. I hope others enjoyed it-- it's a drawing that draws you in by how realistic it is, but then you look closer and the horse eyes are terrifying!

The performances were all stunning, all song and dance and men and women covered in plaster and lovely ribbons. The Whisper dance was really something, music and dance and visuals all coming together in a great crescendo. Caspian Wild sang a song about a honeybee that was impossibly charming. I may have bias. Lady Mabelle wrapped with the music I'd been hearing her practice in our solarium, and she continues to impress me day by day.

There, my thoughts. I did it. That was exhausting. Now I'm going to reward myself with tea loaded with honey.

Scholar,

A proper study of the build of hammocks within the city might be needed, they don't swing just right. Some even don't have enough space within them, and when you're trying to lock your foot around edge of silk to give a proper cocooning spin... You're only met with giggles.

I've been picking plaster off myself for quite awhile. No amount of baths have washed it off. But it was fun, I do admit. And I'm proud of my friend for all the ideas she's created.

Despite how long it took me to clean all that paint off, yes Princess Denica's aides were very thorough in the application, it was aboslutely worth it! I have never had the chance to be IN a work of art so unique and inventive as the one princess Denica created! it was spectacular!

In fact the whole night was a resounding spectacle! Lady Mabelle hosted such a splendid event and all the performances were so marvelous! that i got to perform among them is an honor.

Using some of the plums I received from Marquis Fairen Leary, and some of the chilis I was able to procure at the Market (the Lyceum's peppers seem closest to those from home), I have done my best to recreate the recipe for pickled plums. I'll let them soak in the crocks for a bit to do their thing then send one of the crocks back to the Marquis to try.

The road to Artshall is long, and in high summer, the further you head west and south, the hotter the day seems to grow, or maybe it was just today. Rather than the clustered forests and fragrant meadows of my second home, or the rocky pinnacles and ocean crashing of my first, we took a break for lunch surrounded by reams of lush farmland with the scent of corn on the air and a thousand plump peaches in the fertile orchards of worked by the serfs on the greater outskirts of the duchy's lands, and we shared bread and meat with the knights at the Solace station house where several strapping Oathlands-born women told us stories about the old duke, whom they served when Legate Cassandra was no priest but next in line to rule here.

I've never been here before, and I didn't realize how close their lands were to the Lyceum. I promised that I would find fine presents for all the children while we are at Lady Mabelle's festival, and I'm excited to see the spectacle. Confessor Warren complains constantly about being so far from the city because we are out of our jurisdiction, as though if he can't make an arrest while he's here, he'll be trapped in a doldrum. He evidently has a secret mission from the Master of Questions, but I have a very strong suspicion that his secret mission is to obtain honey candy for Princess Pietra and Princess Kieri while I am not looking . . .

Journeying makes me pensive but the festive nature of it all makes me happy and I am ever grateful both to the steady hand of our hosts for ensuring that we will undertake no threat while we are guests here at Artshall and to the protective hold of Solace upon the roads. The Knights by Gild's grace enable so much civilized travel that it would be so easy to take for granted.

Even the air tastes different so far out in the country, and I've sung so many traveling songs I'm afraid I've gone quite hoarse. Can't stop me now, though.

Most Beloved Reader,

I am so happy and honored that you decided to read my whites! Thank you for that and I hope you have all the blessings of Gods in your life. I don't really have a certain reason to write today, I just felt the need to put down words.

We travel so much in life even if we never leave the house of our birth. We travel through time and through ideas. We change as the people we were to the ones we are. It is exciting. I know that life is always faster than we thought. I know there are times that we have been hurt, that our heart yearned, that we were lost - but my darlings, we heal, we find, we are found. Do not forget that you are very loved. You are very wanted. You are worthy. You are the perfect you that have ever been and ever will be. You are the only you. Don't let the judgments of others tell you differently, your soul may have been through the Wheel before, but that is not who you are to be. You are just loved and I want to remind those to love as you have been.

We choose every day what words to use, what things to do -- let us not forget the Concepts of the Gods. Let us not forget to choose love and kindness as well as honor and duty. Also, let us not hide behind them when it is time to make decisions and to wear our armor as we should.

Until the next words - I am blessed to be able to share your journeys. Thank you to those that have let me do that in person or shared here so that I might see the impacts upon your lives. I am humbled by it.

With all my affection.

Every day there are messengers, some indifferent, some eager. Each bearing a missive of some kind from someone - an acquaintance, a friend, family, someone wishing to learn something or to share some information they have found. Each a treasure in its own way, something I continue to cherish. The details themselves are too small to record here - and gods forbid I should write one of those books that detail every last penny spent over decades - reading so dry it sends me looking for today's cup of tea without even opening a book.

And yet, sometimes out of those very dry and unassuming books, we glean information on the past, something that we did not know before or had forgotten.

Those are moments worth treasuring.

Yesterday, I was asked if I have found something which is stronger than my Wanderslust as I have been lingering in the city.
At one point, I would have said outright no.
I am not so sure anymore.
