Goodness, I'd never known bidding can be such an invigorating practice.
I must praise Princess Renata for the outstanding sum of donations collected!

The Auction of Unique Experiences Benefit was an absolute success! The amount of generosity and support for this cause was overwhelming to say the least. My heart bursting at the seams from kindness alone. There is really nothing we can't accomplish when coming together, a united front to help those less fortunate then ourselves in the Lowers. All in all, we managed to raise 14,585,000 silver for the Commoner's Council!

Thank you soooo much to everyone that helped, donated their time, supported me in my cause, and generously bid their money. I couldn't have done it without you.

Now comes the long list of missives being sent out to the winners and donators.

Very much worth it!

I am now painfully aware that full plate does not make you impervious to harm. I've redoubled my training in an effort to avoid being struck when at all possible. No more wading straight into battle expecting my armor to deflect hits alone and leaving myself open to strikes that ought to be blocked, parried or stepped back from. Maybe were I six and a half feet tall and weighed three hundred pounds or Kedehern, I could fight that way, but I most assuredly am not, and will never be.

The defeats I've survived have been extremely instructive, which is the best thing to say about them. It's good to know one's limits and how to improve. As excellent as Uncle Norwood's instruction was, practice and theory can't prepare one for every possible scenario. Especially the singularly strange and dangerous ones I keep finding myself in.

It's sad to be hanging up my old rubicund plate, but I'll find something better suited and less... that. I've grown out of it, like I have many things of late.

Princess Tikva Grayson slices easily to a point. A delight to read this morning. Thank you for putting it in my digest, scholar.

I've been blessed this past fortnight with many volunteers coming forward to be sketched. My sketchbook is nearly full and I've had to buy another. It's odd seeing images that are caught in the middle of their story, when for so long I've focused on the start and end.

And now we have the greatest deflection of a proposal in history. Short of a violent one.

Of the noble acts I know, none seems more noble to me than those who have nothing dedicating their lives to one another with nothing to gain but everything to lose.

All of this talk of love has triggered me with flashbacks to the first time ever a nobleman professed his undying love for me. I remember the day as clearly as it were yesterday. My parents wished for a political alliance with their family, an old noble house of excellent standing from the Crownlands. They came to stay with us in Blancbier for what seemed like an extended period of time and they were certainly there to discuss a potential marriage between Dominique or possibly Damon (It was definitely -not- for me).

They were a lovely family and I quite enjoyed making their acquaintances, but one evening, out of no where, I was approached by one of the young noblemen. He decided it would be prudent to proclaim in front of our siblings, cousins, and peers, that he has found himself completely and utterly taken by me during the time of their stay that he had fallen irrevocably in love with me.

My reply?

"What is love?"

To which he said - "What is love? Lady, thou wounds my heart!"

I must confess something that has weighed on my mind for years, since my earliest days adopted as a Princess of House Valardin.

I do not believe that Prince Edain truly enjoyed pine-needle tea as much as he claimed.

I believe he was only so enthusiastic about it because it so flummoxed our sister Princess Alis.

May the gods forgive me for not voicing this suspicion while our brother was here to confirm or deny it.

Write about your love match when you have been married a few years and you will find others have less judgment of it. No one cares if you love each other after a decade. You grow in the light of Lagoma and walk the path of Limerance.

The proof is in the pudding. The marriage pudding.

As it is a popular topic.

Not all who recognize beauty do so with lust. Nor does a compliment towards one person diminish your admiration for another.
Not all who love do so romantically or physically.

Love can be boundless and without condition. Duty is also a form of love, for an oath, a people or a place.

One can also love something and not like what its doing.

I am overwhelmed with the amount of support I've had over the last week for the Benefit Auction Princess Keely and I are hosting. It is truly a marvel and a blessing for how we /all/ can come together to raise funds to help others. All of my thanks goes out to those that offered their time and craft in making this all possible with the unique experiences they've provided.

I have come to realize that for someone who loves to explore and get out of the city as much as i do.. i spend far to much time walking. Riding and sailing..how have i never bothered to learn how to do these things properly?! Well, im going to see about fixing that. Small goals though right? lets start with not crashing the rowboat in the pond, and not falling off my horse when its standing still..

Relationship Note on Caprice

High praise goes to Disciples of Jayus, Caprice Artiglio. She spent an ungodly amount of time producing the Uncommon Prayerbooks that we now have at the Shrine. For the first time in years, the Faithful can read the prayers for themselves.

And I'm very proud of our yellow basket. It stays.

It's concerning when friends of the Compact confuse love with honour, duty and fidelity. Or confusing noble marriages for common.

We’ve the ability to weaken the ruin of the world and civilization when we seek to foster understanding and fidelity between each other. That’s one of the great blessings of noble marriages. That we hold to our duty and honour dearly to go beyond our individual desires and instead do something that will benefit far more people than just ourselves.

We’re blessed to have multiple recent examples where the holy rite of marriage was done between great houses. The common are blessed by the sting and joy of love between individuals, but for the nobility the fidelity to the house and their loyalty to the leadership of their domain trumps all. It’s through this fidelity towards houses which represent so many people that we can strengthen bonds instead of tearing down. We can see other houses as allies and friends and family. Many years ago, there were individual kingdoms that warred heavily against each other and nearly often wiped each other out.

Highlord Belladonna Pravus and Duke Consort Cassis Nightgold created a further bond between (at the time) the Lyceum and the North where not too many generations ago presented a significant threat to southern domains. It strengthened disconnected regions.

Highlord Victus Thrax and Princess Consort Alarissa Valardin created a bond between two staunch defenders of traditions (one religious the other political) and a further relationship between two high houses. This ensured further peace and support between disconnected cultures and regions when multiple wars have happened just in recent past.

Highlord Alis Valardin and Prince Consort Fiachra Greenmarch created a bond between one of the oldest houses in the Compact with one of the newest, returning to the fold and offering healing between two houses that for a thousand years had a split between them. Greenmarch even worked hard in supporting the Faith and again, providing security in the Oathlands while the great knights of Valardin marched against threats to the Compact.

Highlord Jaenelle Velenosa and Prince Consort Noah Grayson created a further bond between two old great houses. Their union helped provide safety across the factions of the Lyceum and are ushering in a new era for the Lyceum.

Highlord Darren Redrain and Princess Donella Thrax once more created a further bond between two great houses. When Thrax was threatened, the Redrain stood immediately with them and their calls to banners to defend the Compact provided further safety for many lower houses and peoples.

A noble doesn't approach marriage with the individual goal of love. We approach it with a sense of solemn duty and through that devotion and hard work can Limerance bless our union. We can see in the examples of the high houses that they work hard on their duty and from that, blessings to many flow.

Been quiet lately. The down time is nice though for those times when the Eswynd battles require a lot of energy, stamina, wit. Practically all the skills as a human can be found in one battle of Eswynd.

For Jace's third birthday we had one of those little pottery painting parties - where some poor potter brings clay whatevers and paints, and then a gaggle of screaming children make them colorful. And if you've ever been to Heron Hall, you'd know we have a -lot- of kids from various branches and reasons. So the garden was full of them and maybe half really wanted to paint the little clay figurines, and the other half had a paint war.

I ordered that latter group to scrub the paint off the walls afterward.

There was laughter, tears when someone's little purple pokadotted doggie broke, and then a cake smash for the toddler of the hour.

Who the fuck knew being maternal was something I'd enjoy? It gave me something new to fight for, other than revenge and spite. It gave me a future to protect.

No regrets
No blame
No scandal
No shame
No penance
No remorse
And would I do it all again?
Of course.
