Arx is a strange, strange place.

Today I watched one nobleman accuse another nobleman of besmirching a noblewoman. Apparently the one called the lady stupid?

After losing the duel, the offender repeated how stupid it all was, and how the lady lacked common sense.

I seem to recall duels being settled a bit different in the Oathlands. And I seem be saying "things are different in the Oathlands" a lot.

I'm beginning to feel like a bit of a hayseed. This big city living...

Was the shit taken off of the side of a ship? Because I have heard that is very difficult to do. I can see how it would require enough concentration that you would forget all other concerns for a time.

Plus, splinters. Ouch.

Relationship Note on Audric

His lordship the Captain-General, Baron Audric de Lire, makes such a habit of watching my back I'm beginning to think I should just keep him on permanent retainer.

Except that even on the allowance of a Grayson Princess, I'm not sure I could afford it. . .

My cousin Dominic, rest his soul, had a familiar term he would go back to whenever things were too heated for his discourse.

"I'm going to go take a shit, be back later." And so he would. I impart this wisdom onto you, Lady Stonewood. May it help in your future discussions that turn loud and unsavory.

I stand here alive today to speak of it because of the furious courage of two men with whom I shared a battlefield, two men with whom I had never so much as shared a word before it happened so. One of them I knew by reputation; the other was a stranger to me entire.

Harald Grimhall, Duke of Gri'helm's Point. Lord Faelan Navegant. Defenders against the storm.

They were the blessing of Gloria incarnate upon that battlefield. If they had fallen, it would have been an end for song and story. And yet they _lived_. They lived to fight again, to defy the Abyss another day.

Bless you both.

I am humbled. I am grateful. And I yet live.

Some debts can never be repaid. This one will never be forgotten.

Actually now that I read through the rest of the entries today, could have picked a better day to talk about bacon.

Over the week I took some time to partake in an Oathland's delicacy called 'honey bacon'. It's slices of pig that are cooked and steam drizzled with sticky bee stuff. I've eaten a lot of strange things in my time but fuck me did /that/ one make me feel fat. I think my heart is about ready to burst from how it keeps trying to burn up through my throat.

Do I regret it though? Fuck no I don't. Maybe once every blue moon, when I don't need to make sure I'm mobile in the morning.

I'm told that knights of the Oathlands also do rigorous exercises in order to burn away what the sizzling-sweet shit does to your body. I have to think if they just skipped the bacon entirely they'd be the Compact's greatest warriors, but it seems like that's some sort of heresy in those parts. I can see why. If someone told me they didn't like to spear their own octopus on the table while it tries to escape the hunter with fork and knife, I'd believe they were pretty fucking weird too.

When you're caught misbehaving, the more you bluster and blather, the worse you look. Just, you know, an old Boroughs orphan's advice. You get away with so much more if you know when to shut up.

The Thirteenth reminds us that just because we can, doesn't mean we should. May we all strive to master and control our passions so that they might not control us; that we use all our strengths and weaknesses to build upon the goal of keeping in check the Abyssal nightmare and uplift our fellow man so we each might grow.
Using the weakness of others for personal gain places another link of corruption on the soul. Forgive, uplift and grow.

Good Gods I had no idea so many people actually took time out of there days to read /my/ whites. This is a whole new level of opportunity. Circles within circles. It's almost as if people have nothing better to do. Hold on now, some of you have shit to do like run your domains and attend your tea socials and continue talking shit about the people out there actually doing something with their lives. You'd really think people would understand the responsibility that comes with being a noble but apparently it's all silver spoons and free rides. Seriously? No, it isn't. Let's take a look at the elite and break down just how many of those are actually high born commoners, members of the Faith or common folk who have actually worked at a trade to develop a business and establish a mercantile empire based on capitalism and not just aristocrats. You know the thing you do when you as privileged people move in and fuck over the native denizens of a region and steal their resources for your own. First, let me put this down for my own sanity and not for anything other than putting thoughts to paper in the book that's all about me. Right? Interesting concept that showcases our society is motivated by selfishness. Me, me me me. You haven't heard about my good deeds because I don't have the need to write them down and immortalize them on the pages of some dusty old tome that most people use as a medium for self-masturbation. To be quite honest, this discussion could on and I could highlight my points but I'm bloody bored already. You bore me. That's what I'd say to most of the people who come to read my white journals and walk away feeling offended about my thoughts. You know why you're offended, because you're not perfect. Something inside you begs for validation from your petty minded peers and no one else cares. No one cares.

Seriously, stop...think about it, let that soak in. No one cares. This is the last time I'll write about this for your reading pleasure, because I did this for you. (Thank me later those who know who you are). For everyone else, excellent work out there fighting the good fight. Liberating the Shav and Abandoned Coalitions who needed our soldiers. Thank you to the people who work tirelessly restoring order to the realm. Thank you to the people who have mended wounds, stitched on limbs and performed the real miracles of healing. Thank you to the common people who know my heart and have spent time with me in the past week organizing the projects that will provide free healthcare and a tuition free public university! Thank you to the people whom are working into the wee hours of the morning making sure that the Gods protection is extended all across Stonewood lands and beyond. Thank you. This is what I live to write about, and this is what matters.

I have never seen your charity in the Lowers, and I grew up there. Then again, who's to say. Perhaps I missed it.

I did see you talk down to shopkeep whose home had just burned down across from my then-home at the Murder. Didn't miss that.

Oh wait, I'm a Grayhope commoner, not a Culler commoner, and I don't count.

Carry on.

You're right. Most of those that read your thoughts aren't privy to your 'inside jokes'. As someone who claims to not be ignorant, perhaps your education in knowing how to be aware of your words and their effects was... lacking. Any good politician measures the effects of their words before they commit them to paper. Your words came across as facetious and demeaning. Therefore, surprise, people found them facetious and demeaning. It's amazing how that works.

Also, your defense of this 'inside joke' by claiming that you have risked your life for the Compact and donate money to less fortunate... yes, and so have most of the people that I know. This doesn't make you special or give you the right to be a flippant, empty-headed ninny because you have a 'poor friend'. Perhaps you could stand to do some thinking before you decide to put words out there that might be 'misconstrued'. At the very least, you should see Lady Eirene Malvici to help you remove your slipper from your throat. It has to be painful.

How about this, when you walk into the Archives and want to read something. Don't pick up my white journals. In case the Archlector decides to read my whites again, now he will understand that he reached for /my/ book of his own volition. I Personally I read everyone's journals to satiate my curious appetite of course, but I only write about the ones that really affect me. Soooo moral of the story, if your name doesn't end with Culler. Exit stage left and take many seats.

Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
