Is it inappropriate to ask the King to bring some of his handsome cousins to a dinner?
Asking for a friend.

I say this not in chastisement of any particular individual (because it has happened more times than I can easily name), but as a useful tip for the future, and in the sincere desire to both retain my own sanity, and to avoid causing offense by my reactions. Thus, be aware: At any time when I am in the nude, it is not a good time to ask for spiritual advice or consultation of any sort. Nor to share dire portents and doomsaying, or demand action on any particular issue. I assure you, whatever it is, it can wait until a time when I am clothed.

Trying new things with new people can create all sorts of opportunities.
I've known for some time the real reason some people resist trying new things and prefer routine is fear (what else) -- fear of the unknown. I generally find routine to be poisonous to my passion for life. Although, if pressed, I suppose there is benefit to routine. It supports discipline and promotes reliably.
Back to fears. There are many things of which I have no fear: I'm not afraid to fail. I'm not afraid to succeed. I'm not afraid to look foolish. I always try.
Back to trying new things. It requires courage to try something new. It keeps us from becoming bored, and new challenges are fun to take on. It forces us to grow and keep an open mind. And ... there's nothing more satisfying than shattering those delusions of the past.

Relationship Note on Corban
Now there are many duelist that are indeed, just that good that they excel in both. Me personally? I am an attrocious duelist and I come away from most all of my sparing bouts bruised and humbled, but I feel in true battle I account very well for myself.
So basically what I am trying to say is continue to strive for excellence in all things but never let your performance in competition shake you are not an Exemplary warrior. Because you most certainly are Lord Corban.

Think the joust was the worst of it. Heard Tristan rode in leathers - good way to get your head or chest stoved in if you fuck up.
Course, no one can ride as well as the man, so he gets away with it.

Relationship Note on Aureth
I've fought that hard over and over again in these melees and no one's ever made a peep about me trying to kill myself.
The ones fighting in that melee last night were every bit as good as I am and every bit as dedicated to holding the line.
A few new scars are worth the joy of challenge.
It may not be your way, but it's mine and those like me.
If we fought to _actual_ death, then you could compare us to our pointy-eared friends.

Or, perhaps, I should say that Luca's back end will be glad for it. Unless, of course, the arrows go awry again tonight should we encounter trouble.

I have ever favored the joust, for although the melee is apt training for battle and well displays the prowess at arms, the warrior's resolve, and the shifting whims and vicissitudes of fortune, I was taught that it us skill with steed and lance which most defines a knight. In other lands, I am told other talents are most desired, yet for the Oathlands, it is the mounted tilt which is conjured to mind the purity of a chivalric contest.
And such a contest it was! Having crossed the continent to face the finest opponents in all the Compact, an unheralded knight of little distinction might be forgiven a measure of trepidation at a field replete with high nobles, King's Own and Templars. I must give due praise to the Lady whose inspiration and favor steadied my spirit: my Lady Charlaine Blanchard, I am in your debt.
To all who jousted, I give thanks, for no phantoms of imagination could have exceeded the grandeur of a Crown Tournament, beheld for the first time. To my opponents, I thank you for the courtesy of your utmost efforts, and to Master Tristan, I give thanks for providing me a mark toward which to continue striving.
Whether the next call is to the lists, or to the battlefield, I am eager to spend my valor for Crown, for Prince, and for Compact.

I, Tessa Moore, get to eat dinner with THE KING.
I don't know what to wear. I don't know who to bring as my date.
If you are handsome, or beautiful, polite and have complimentary coloring to my own please contact me at the Sleepless Knight in for an interview to be my arm candy for the evening.
Parties who will be jealous when I gush over our stunningly handsome King need not apply.
Those who bring gifts to their interviews will be given preferential treatment.
Off to find sea silk!

Some mightier folk have responsibilities and such, and if they're fighting for honor or sport maybe it's a waste to risk their lives on it. But I can't judge a woman for what she thinks is worth it and what she doesn't, seeing as I have risked my life and killed folk for wine money and silk money and to cover my fingers in rings, and that's a lot less than a King's boon by my account.
