Yesterday, I had the greatest of pleasures in meeting Paladin Leola again, and this time I got to really spend time with her and talk about many things. Though most pertaining to animals and the forest. She was exceedingly kind and generous, and helped me further my education and knowledge with animals. To the point where I am not sure it can go much further and for that I am most grateful. And in turn I was able to share with her some of my knowledge of the forests and wilderness with her. Started to teach her how to read the weather. In the end she invited me to join the Lodge of Petrichor and I happily accepted. I could not be more thrilled with this then well... I really have no words. I am rather full of excitement over it.

Managed to make it to the Grand Melee, was on the Blue team, our team won the Grand melee, and I even managed to stay in the fight when it was down to everyone against everyone at the end to see who won it all. I did not win, but the last remaining I am proud to say was Prince Talen himself, who I teamed up with to vanquish our foes. Well fought, and nice helmet!

I have find solace in the fact that I am not the only one who has be hampered from pursuing goals during the winter months. Lady Shae stated that she was also hampered by the Winter. I am still trying to get as much done as possible before next summer. I would like to be able to do some camping next summer without any stress. I need to find a couple of teachers, but sometimes I feel I am told old to learn anything new. I know that it is silly, but I can't help it. After I finished this journal, I will probably try to get some more support for one of my many projects.

Fun fight. Bit lopsided but that's the fucking drawback of random draw. Gotta go with what you're dealt.

I'm going to sleep now. For a week. Ulf is pretty fucking decent at transcribing shit.

Relationship Note on Fergus

You stood fiercely against your opponents, and made do with the hand you were dealt. I can not ask for more.

So many bemoaning the tepid, mild winter of the South - come to the North. We'll show you a lovely ol' time.

Find yourself running in scant leathers from an avalanche in a snowstorm, then come talk to me.

Utterly incredible. His Grace, Prince Edain did a spectacular job of hosting the event, and every one of the competitors gave it their all--

-- though some could have stood to not give quite so much.

It was something to watch. I must give credit to the healers present too-- Sister Thena, Prince Sophie, Lady Reigna and Lady Caelis amongst many others did a incredible job. I cannot thank them, and the Mercies enough for their tireless efforts.

Watching the tournament was remarkable. I am happy to see it come to it's conclusion. I'm struck by how many fought till they dropped of their wounds. Over all, it's good to see other warriors exert themselves for love of martial training. I was also impressed with how well Prince Edain managed to run such massive events. He's clearly very skilled at organizing people. He's impressive. I've enjoyed witnessing such grand events.

May your hopes find safe harbors.

Relationship Note on Talen

Although I cannot really yet call him a friend, we have not had much time together, but he is an interesting character whom I'd like to spar one on one with and perhaps make plans to help out the Velenosians.

Sketches, labeled 'masquerade'.

A heart encircles the canvas entire.

A chain, looping across the top of the canvas and doubling back to appear to break near the center. From this broken link, a sharp, elongated star or explosion, its farthest points closing off the top right edge of the canvas.

A line of human teeth ridged along the bottom of the canvas. A smaller heart along the right edge with the word "Mae" written inside it. A rough uncoiled serpentine line left of the center, heavy and disruptive.

Relationship Note on Reese

You've very rarely been more beautiful than standing fierce against so many and unwavering as the mightiest of Grayson legends. My wife folks. Gods I'm a lucky son of a bitch.

Some have wondered why I didn't join this latest grand melee.

One, I'm trying to be responsible for once and going on patrol shortly regarding the demonic wolves.

Two, I knew Ribbons would represent Grayson better even than I could and would win for her team.

Three, I was sleepy. I got to the fight in back rows to see my wife stomp ass before she was finally taken down by her own, but I SO didn't want to roll out of bed for the start of it. Gotta live up to my Luca the Lazy title some days.

It is a very odd thing to be on the other side of the stands and not in the grand melee, watching people I normally fight side by side with cross blades without me.

So with the sore throat has come body aches. I must be getting sick. Send soup and tea. Or ... well I guess I can send for it. Make sure your messengers don't breathe around me, yes?

Relationship Note on Estaban

Lessons learned:

Winter storms are no small matter.
Lord Estaban is an excellent swimmer.
I'm not nearly as talented a sailor as I thought I was.

I'm glad you didn't die.

Winter is the worrying season. The testing season. The dying season. The season where things go wrong, and you're left with whatever you managed to do and keep and learn in previous seasons to sustain you, and to see if that's actually enough.

It's not like that here, and it leaves me feeling constantly twitchy and restless, like there are things I'm meant to be doing that I'm not. It's not that I don't have work flowing out of my ears, that I can't keep myself busy, but that it's not the right work. Working numbers on a page, running contracts and keeping the others in line doesn't feel like Winter's work, and it gets under my skin in ways that drive me a little mad. I don't sleep well in the winter since coming to Arx. It's both too quiet and too noisy. Too warm. My stomach is too full--work that one out. Even when we're out on contract, it doesn't feel quite right.

I'll be glad when spring comes again. I hate winters since coming to the city.

Balance of my stay at Arx:
I've met a few delightful people.
I've been in a ritual of the Thirteen.
I got a beautiful dress and a horrible scarf.

And I still want a welcome party.

The Grand Melee is tonight, and two winners will be declared - the most stylish and accomplished fighter, and the last person standing.

I don't expect to win either of them, frankly. The line-up is intimidating. But I intend to fight my best for Valardin, for Wyrmguard, for Gloria and for Limerance.
