I'll be wearing a favor while on defense at the gates against those who wish us all to end. It is not a tangible thing, but one made of promises and things that will be done once the fighting has ended and we are safe (even relatively) once more.

I hope to see the other side of this. There is still so much to be done.

I, along with every able-bodied man and woman in the city, stand into danger once more on behalf of Arx. Gloria's temple is quiet, more quiet than I expected; although many guards and soldiers have been here, the mood is tense and serious, and few speak aloud or engage in conversation. The quietness makes it perfect for meditation and prayer. I am humbled by the peace here. It has been a few weeks since I withdrew from greater society. The entire circumstance surrounding the duel (not the duel itself; it was settled fairly) left me with a need to meditate and think on my life, rather than keep being as social as I was. Praying for all the soldiers in the city makes this a vigil that will last days, but I think it will be worth it. As I pray, I remember the time before the Battle of Three Arrows, and the priestess who spoke to me that night. My mind is close to what it was that night. Though our force is mighty and consists of people often better warriors than I am, I am still ready for whatever might happen. I give no thought to my own glory, where once I might have; any heroism I may display in the coming siege will almost certainly be unwitnessed by anyone by the few soldiers who will be with me. Letting go of ego lets me focus on what matters: the people of Arx. Picturing their faces in my mind: the merchant I bought apple pie from on Thursday; his wife, a rosy-cheeked comedienne; the six scampering children rolling out of the Lower Boroughs and playing hide-and-seek, as if they'd challenged themselves to see how long they could get away with being here before someone scolded them back to their part of the city; the faces of my family and friends: Katarina, Luca, Eirene, Aurelian, Calypso, Sophie, Edain. Warriors and civilians alike. I pray for their safety, individually and collectively, and offer my own in return.

I decided to see Alarie in my down time. She thought I had left already. We talked about our Fealties and how Thrax was very different from Valardin. Always an interesting conversation over tea. When I return she wishes to make me some proper city cloths. I can not say no. I hope I can repay her by accompanying her to a Tavern soon enough.

It's been a long week of waiting but we will be riding out soon to do what we came here to do. Win back glory for our house in a darring attempt to thwart some of the forces of the approaching army. Mugetsu, and myself, will be tested in this battle.

Lady Abigail's sister stopped by but did not stay. She is to be married aparently. The Marquessa wasn't happy about it and Abigail wasn't to be invited to the wedding. Well, The Marquessa put a stop to that real quick by outright canceling any marriage plans Lady Roseline had. She was being rather snooty and acting superior. Serves her right.

Relationship Note on Khanne

Khanne Halfshav is a woman I've grown to greatly respect during our time spent together. She acts as a solid Voice to the Halfshav family and a dedicated Shaman.

Every culture has their own traditions when preparing for battle. Anze was kind enough to let me glimpse in to the Redrain traditions. Centering ones self, and preparing for the terrible things you have to do at war. Coming to peace with the necessary evils we become.

Out on campaign now I am reminded of another war time tradition. Camp can get quiet the night or two before a battle. Everyone on edge. Thinking some times about how this might be their last few days alive. Or perhaps about how hard they will fight to stay alive. In Southport, before a battle, some center themselves with the methodical task of making War Banners. Sewing down the House Sigil. Maybe adding in another symbol here and there to show the particular campaign this banner was made for. I set Eirene on the task of making House Malvici's banner for this campaign. I'll be interested to see what she comes up with.

Relationship Note on Anze

Though we've certainly had some difficulties over the past year or so, Anze remains someone I know I can rely upon to get a job done. I'll be glad to have him by my side while guarding the gates against the oncoming horde, and I know he won't disappoint.

It would seem that steelsilk gowns are not only real, but something I might myself soon see with my own eyes. I have even had the opportunity to test the mettle of the astonishing fabric, running a sharp blade over it without causing any discernible damage whatsoever. The world-shaking wonders I hear of are in some ways less startling than a piece of soft cloth that can turn a blade while resting in my grasp.

Soon, the battle will be upon us. To those who have braved walking out of the gates and into the Gray Forest, I salute you. Know that you have the greatest armies at your back and to your front, and while success is never guaranteed, we have far more to fight for than our enemies. To those who stand guard with me at the gates - know that I will do my part to protect our home, to protect you, and to protect all of those that we love and hold dear.

We will fight, and we will succeed. Because failure against this enemy is simply not an option.

Most of my life has been lived playing to my strengths and endeavoring at what I know, what I was born to. My path has sprawled ahead of me straight and clear. Now I find my path at a fork. Down one is the expected. Down one I continue as I have for as many years as I have known Down another I pick up the mantle of student once more and learn new skills to fold into the old that I never thought I'd need and never had cause to study. One promises great things with more assurance. The other - greater things with harder rock to carve through. What would my ancestors think of me if I took the easy route? That is not what a Greenmarch does.

Before the siege...

There is tension int he air and many worry about the coming siege if it happens to become such. Who will make it, who won't, will we stop the Bringers form breaking into the city and setting it to burn. I cannot see this happening, surely they will be stopped and the greatest City in the land will find itself past such dire times. Hope, the will and the skills of those that prepare for it are what will save us all... and if not I've warn those to run to the Thracian port and find refuge on a ship if the city is breached. The ships might be the only way to save some if that does happen and will also be the saddest time, watching Arx burn from the waters.

Relationship Note on Fairen

A man that loves his wife very much to have a warrior of renown to wear armor I will be forging. It shows even in his stoic and proper air, love is there and how he wishes to be sure she is safe when she is in battle. The tip was nice as well and I shall make sure that it is everything he has imagined for his wife to wear and inspire those around her while wearing it and with the new weapon to wield also.

Relationship Note on Valencia

Truly the inspiration for the city itself. A lovely event and I was glad I could help the Princess of Redrain with my work. I'm also glad she loves the gift Ariel commissioned for her. It was a delight to work on the hairpins for such a wonderful woman as she is. Congratulations on your success and to the future of the Golden Hart.

Moths are well known to be drawn to the bright lights of the world. Most seek out candles and campfires and lanterns hanging on the streets. One young moth, however, became enamored with one particular bright star. The young moth's parents chided it. They encouraged it to turn its focus towards the more attainable and certain. The young moth was adamant though, and continued to chase the bright star. It never did reach the star, but by the time the young moth had become an old one, the chase had taken it far and wide, to see the world, to meet many souls, and down the road of a long and happy life while those moths that chased flames burnt their wings and died unable to fly.

There was a nice celebration of sorts, for the opening of Princess Valencia's Golden Hart. I'm not much of a gambler, other than to pass the time sometimes, on the road and such. There's other ways to pass the time, and I like those better, but a little bit of dice or cards can be good fun, and I wager I've won more silver than I've lost, over the years.

No gambling, this time, though there was a tournament and I could have bet on that. I think I'd have lost, though, so it's a good thing I didn't bet at all. It was a good show.

I liked the drinks too. I liked them all, to tell the truth, but the wine called Hot Blush was quite fancy, and I did enjoy Mistress Valery's tea quite a bit. Maybe I drank a bit too much of the whole lot, but I was feeling pretty warm on my way home, and that was a comfort..

Three lost gods now found. Rediscovered? No longer ignored? I'm pretty sure they knew where they were.

Skald has a priest or soon will. If you're the only one, does that make you Archlector by default? From what I hear, Skald would just buy an ale and watch them fight about it.

The Queen of Endings has a priest or one as close as makes no different. A prophet? Having her drop a book on your head seems to be pretty clear.

Question: how do you appoint an Archlector of the Dreamer? Answer: No idea but I'll sleep on it.
