Well, that didn't last at all. I turned over the Lord Commander's sword for several reasons, but events being what they are, I have accepted the promotion to First Captain. Which means that if Lord Commander Rymarr does something incredibly heroic and pays the price, then this whole cycle starts over again with an unexpected promotion. Nonetheless, the reasons to turn over the sword are swiftly being resolved, and so while I am content to be First Captain, I suspect that if I am ever again the Lord Commander, it will remain the title with which I eventually die.
Speaking of something incredibly heroic, I'm not sure I approve of this plan of his. It's heroic, to be sure. And it might have several different benefits, but it is also quite the gamble. I had no idea he was such a gamester. I will, however, support his choice whatever it is. Not just because he's the Lord Commander, but because I do understand the occasional need to make difficult choices that are hardly understood by observers.
In other news, my work continues unabated. I am close to a breakthrough I think - I hope? But the uncomfortable matter of the Thrax succession and its rippling effect through Arx is another difficult point. That's a matter I'm keeping a close eye on, even if it is mostly because I am concerned for my family, despite my current status.
'May you live in interesting times' is a curse for a reason.

I survived my first night back in the city, Unfortunately though it seems my hope for a few more days of being dead have been fucked. So much for enjoying the city for a few days without the worries of family and dealing with the harsh realities that come with it.. 8 years was long enough to be dead though.
Most didn't even realize who I was, which was good. Though Victus the clever bastard that he is did. I should have known better than to have gotten through the evening free of anyone finding out I returned. But we had a good talk, and should be having another more serious one soon.

Visited the Shrine again today to collect my thoughts and reflect on my purpose here in Arx. I want to serve my family, I'm troubled by the news I've heard and the things that have been happening. I always wanted some grand fairytale adventure, and it seems I may get one, all Arx will.

Attended the Masque tonight. It is not the sort of engagement I have grown accustomed to. Clearly I have neglected my duties as a lady for those of a sailor if I'm much more at easy bandying words over drinks in a tavern than in an evening peopled with my peers and betters. I will try to do better and balance the two. Again Audric came up. His name seems to follow like a plague. Still, I think I managed to meet a few people I expect I shall see again-or I hope I do. Time in this menagerie of people will tell.

I should like to take a moment to give thanks to Gods and Spirits alike for those that attended our wedding celebration--it was sparse, short, and sweet. Those that I neglected to invite should forgive me. I have been here but a short time--been alive but a short time. I am glad for the arrival of winter, for now the weather feels like home. Before now, Arx had managed to provide everything else.
Now, if only I could properly schedule that meeting with Archlector Avary. That part's all my fault.

Lady Caelis possesses vim and gaiety much welcome in the Malvici household. They are a serious and dedicated martial family, my employers. All know this as their reputation. I am sure then that it would greatly surprise others to witness just how much warmth there is in those Halls these days, as more of the extended family arrive to the capitol to lend their aid. Surely discussions often revolve around matters of war or similar; they will never be ones for discussing flowers or dresses or cute animals. But there is a consistent thread of deep engagement with one another. An honesty that denies pretense. Lady Caelis is this forwardness most personified, and I look forward to knowing her better.
