Relationship Note on Fortunato

Brother of Aureth Grayhope and a painter of considerable talent. I have been the accidental recipient of two of his paintings. While the subject matter has been startling, there is no faulting his ability with colour, or his eye for detail, or his willingness to capture images that others might pass over. He sees deeper, I think, and brings that to his canvasses.

Relationship Note on Aureth

Brother to Fortunato Grayhope and a fortune teller who seems as gifted with words as he does with reading his cards. We have entered a business arrangement that I hope is beneficial to both of us.

Relationship Note on Branan

This man was bold enough to ask for a job, and because I favor bold men, I gave him one. He is a man of Lenosia, and a poet. But no man of Lenosia is ever just one thing -- no man is ever /just/ a poet. I wonder what else he is, when his mask falls aways? I wonder what he dreams, when there's no one there to see him dreaming?

My Dear City,

After my prolonged period of time resting languidly on my blue velvet settee, hidden behind the lavish doors of the Whisper House ever so much like a gleaming pearl ...

I have returned.

There is so much in the way of new news, so much new gossip, so many new intrigues and so many new appearances of those that should visit the House.

Know that you are welcome, if you have the coin to spend.

We will keep a light, and an eye, out for you.

Relationship Note on Mydas

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, don't they? Nothing reminds me of that more than the moment I saw Mydas here in Arx.

Perhaps we didn't have the closest of bonds growing up, with my wayward tendencies clashing so often with his goals. Signe and Sigurd, then the eldest Mydas -- we were separated even then with how we were introduced. I was a stinging reminder, a thorn in his side, a pest to irritate him. And him as unyielding as a stone wall, the antithesis of the connection I have with Sigurd...

I grew to adore him as I do Gurdy, in time. We may be near opposites, but when he's away it feels like the world lacks balance. A family needs a steady hand and eyes focused forward. A cliff face can still support roots. We need him as he needs us. After all, what is Winter without the promise of Summer?

Visited the Grotto, it was a nice place. Did not stay long and mostly wandered around the training and tournament grounds. Allot of shows, very regularly. The city has good talent but it made me think about how I want to be perceived by Gloria. There is nothing more raw than fists to face but after the time I have put towards the staff fighting I picked up north in Tyde, I find it a more enjoyable discipline than wrestling or fist-fighting. I can comfortably switch between the two so that is of no issue. Where I do get hung up is on the armor bit... I know uncle Donrai did not mean anything other than to pass some wisdom when he talked about my father but he was right. The fucker slipped between ships and sunk to the bottom of the sea. All because he wanted to wear some shiny red armor. I figure I do the opposite and earn my place with Gloria fighting with no armor. I heard a story from thrall about northern bezerkers that not only braved the cold without clothing but also fought without armor. I have some free time and could look into it.

Relationship Note on Cicero

It's intriguing to compare the differences between Prince Cicero and Princess Isolde's teachings. And to see the similarities that shoot through, despite it all. Like seeing a reflection through different shards.

As it should be.

Relationship Note on Benjamin

An associate of Master Belardi. Seemingly a trusted one, which speaks highly for both his character and his competence. My own dealings have thus far been decidedly limited, though I think that it is already safe to say that this barber-surgeon is less polished as a courtier than his colleague. Whether that is a point for or against him is likely to vary depending upon the individuals with whom he deals.

Relationship Note on Dawn

The Lady Regent and I had only spoken a handful of times before I was appointed to this new Low Council to the Crown. I don't know how I won over her confidence, but I'll consider it a mark in my favor either way.

The woman has risen to great heights in a short matter of time, but father always said don't fear the individual who rises to power but rather those that manage to hold onto it. It is easy to claim, but even harder to hold.

The Lady Regent seems a good wrangler.

The princesses, Isolde Velenosa and Deva Redrain, did well in their preparations for the delegation. What they might not have prepared themselves for though is the fact we're now going to be dealing directly with a menace of the like I doubt many of us has ever seen before... that we recall, anyway.

It turns out elves are a smug bunch and sarcastic as fuck too. They play it up quite well but honestly one can see from a mile off that their court is in as much disorder as ours, likely.

As part of the delegation the group met them in the woods of the Gray Forest but the interaction was overall a success. We'll see how the negotiations with their kind go from here on out.

I see darkness everywhere. In the literal sense and in the not so literal. It's like I am inside a brightly lit room looking out into the dark, I see a solid wall of black. Unable to penetrate it's encompassing pitch.

I see people scratching and clawing at the wall of darkness, ignorance. I find myself torn between keeping them there, or to reach out and take their hands, drawing them into the light and warmth of the home. Perhaps they're better in the dark, comfortable in their ignorance. In the dark you can't see anything, but in the light, everything is illuminated. So I'm not so certain that's a particularly good thing. They say ignorance is bliss.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

A giant of a man from Northern stock; I have hired him to be my personal guard. He has told me of his past and the reasons for what he does now, but for I'll see to it that he is helped whether it is to get back to where he was or where-ever it is he wishes to go to next.

I wouldn't have made him shave the beard even if I did win the bet. It is too fetching on him.

Count Maximilian is joyful, and I am sorrow. I had no regrets answering his call, though my mind is ill at ease in this poisonous city. Yet I go where asked, and it is he I follow.

Relationship Note on Leola

I first encountered Miss Leola Allenatore on the beaches outside Arx. I was at some work-out, putting in time to keep my sea legs from going to rust, and she was out with a hawk.. hawking? I will have to ask her the correct term. I do not well recall the beginning of our conversation. My blood was up from the exercise, she's a fair lass, it was a beautiful morning. What I do recall very specifically was the stormcloud came over her face when I suggested she stay inside the city when trouble inevitably comes knocking. The frank words she had to say about what it would mean to sit on a wall and watch others risk themselves when they would be better served with her skills in the field. I thought of those words again this morning when, at an hour most were still deep in their warm blankets, I encountered her already hard at work overseeing some laborers. I had not yet found my cell (a dire wanderlust has possessed me of late) and among my many flaws of character is a habit of waxing philosophical and garrulous in the late hours. Of this she remonstrated me, gently and without making it an accusation, but firmly by the simple canniness of her words. I had the immediate understanding, having twice now been so adjusted, of an animal at training. The guidance devoid of malice or judgement, only the firm smack of a hand on snout, a command reinforced with with the tap of a switch. Not powerful for strength of force, but for the uniformity of its application. Its constancy. There is no longer any wonder how she brought that great cat to heel.

I believe that the first opponent to underestimate her on the battlefield will die with confusion in his eyes.

Today is the last day aboard the Reaper. Tomorrow we arrive north of Arx, and then a days walk southward to the city to meet my cousin.

I won't have the black sails be seen. The vessel and is best served as the silent wind.

It's cold, and there is nothing warm awaiting me in Arx.

I have come to the conclusion that perhaps Arvum is not yet ready for the cuisine that comes from Eurus. Can't help but consider the idea that it simply causes too much discord within the population.

I had thought that curry would've been innocuous enough. If Lou eats it the way she prefers it, then I had thought that perhaps the rest of population could be to do so as well. I was very wrong on this.

Comments about nipples, curry being tossed about, a duchess almost blinded and an impromptu wrestling match. I've seen any of this brought about by curry.

I do feel slightly bad about this, was not my intention, even if I'm now considering the military application of it.

Though, it might be best if my people never find out about it. If they knew that Arvum had this kind of reaction to curry... No. They must never know.
