Relationship Note on Selene

Oh Selene, a sweet summer breeze on a cold and dreary day. She smells of roses and something delicious. I can't quite put my tongue on it, it was truly a pleasure. We will no doubt be seeing more of one another, and one another more often. The young Radiant reminds me of a particular goddess but that's between us isn't it now oh white journal. Surely no one would be interested in reading what I had to say about Marquis Kennex pool party. Next time, I won't lose to Regi because I will have Selene's fortifying favor to carry with me into battle. Hopefully, if I play my cards right...yes....yes.

A crow is a lot higher pitched when they voice their calls.

A raven is a low throated sound, like a gronk-gronk croooak.

Interesting fact, a crow's tail is fan-shaped and a raven's is wedge-shaped.

Fortunato is right about their socializing behaviors. Ravens are more cautious.

You know what's really interesting? A crow's life span is usually around the 8 year mark, while a raven can last upwards of 30 years! Imagine their intelligence. If you want a smart bird, a raven is the way to go.

Raven's are also larger than a crow, and their feathers have a wet look to them and gleam blue or purple. The right trainer can also get a Raven to learn to understand what you're telling them. Crow's take a bit more effort.

Don't try and hold my hand (because I am a jellyfish.)

Grace from a distance, maybe beautiful. But wait until you're struck. I sting. My hands feel emptier. Oh, so much safer. That strange tingle is absent. That burn of holding something you weren't meant to hold. Like a spiny urchin. Like a hot coal. Like a shard of ice. Hold it until your hand trembles. Drop it back into the sea. The fire. Let it melt in your palm until your skin turns numb. It's a useless and utterly whimsical little thought to have. Bittersweet. Perilous. Ephemeral. Ruinous.

The wind will still howl. The sea will still whisper. You can count every grain of sand from the Saffron to the Mourning Isles and it will be the same.

(I will notice others linking hands. Lifeline to anchor. I will glare at them.)

Just. Don't try and hold my hand.

Sparing with my brother is one of my favorite things. There is no better way to catch up or bond than beating each other senseless with blades. I welcome the nights I get to vent to him and hone my skill. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my footwork-for the record. It's meant for ships, obviously.

I grow tired of people looking down at me and my family, I grow tired of it all. I grow tired of how people make me and my family feel when we would do just about anything to help someone. Gods help me if I hear one more person tell me that their are higher and better nobles out there. Gods grant me the power of self-control. Gloria guide me please.......

Crows and ravens are close cousins, rather like the, hm, upper boroughs might be considered the class cousins of the lower boroughs. My family does happen to own property in both places. Why! We're liminal! Middle and lower class at the same time.

Ravens are creatures of greater reserve. They live and travel in pairs. While crows, bless them, are a grandly social group, flocking and squawking and enjoying a broad company and perhaps this all fits some larger, human stereotype as well.

I have no idea what anyone is really talking about, though. I usually don't. I just wanted to talk about birds.

Relationship Note on Juliana

"All the stars in the sky, they are so bright, I can see them in the dark
No matter how many lifetimes away they might be
So bright, they illuminate the night stricken forest
So bright, like tiny unreachable candles so far away

And yet, their brightness is nothing next to yours,
So dim by comparison
That when you rise, it blacks out the sky.
It is dark around you, it sticks in my throat

To me, you are all the golden and glittering things in this world,
And if all the stars should cease to be,
You would be way at sea
You would be my warmth."

Crows, ravens.

For all of the croaking and crawing that they make at one another - they are all generally the same color. Although, on any given sunny day when a shadow at your feet causes you to look up, you never truly consider it. A large black bird lands in a nearby tree. You wonder: crow or raven?

Although, with a bit of practice - you can tell them apart. Strangely, this also applies to cast-iron pots and kettles.

After speaking with Lady Calypso and considering, I've joined the Ministry of Defense as an agent. It will not interfere with my duties as Baron and Knight of Solace and will afford me the opportunity to provide a more robust defense of the Compact and those I care about than I was about to during my late arrival at the siege.

Relationship Note on Ophelia

Luca's sister. As with many of the Velenosa family members around my age, we knew each other as children in Lenosia. Then, as now, she is sweet and kind and apparently quite guileless. If I were a cynical man, I would be suspicious! But I am not.

If she's not with child yet, it's certainly not for lack of trying. I suspect my first heir will be a pleasant addition by spring, however.

The amount of whining between the peerage is astonishing in Arx. Was I really so isolated at Stonehearth? When will they put the nobility back in being Noble? I suppose the Godsworn can be forgiven of course, that is a different path, but the diplomat?

Relationship Note on Fatima

A sultry Thrax Princess who I most recently encountered at another pool party. When none of the men proved up to the task of undressing me this time around, she was happy to assist. Truly, she seems a woman of my own heart, if perhaps bolder than even I dare to be! I do hope to see a bit more of her. Er, to see her around a bit more. Yes, that's what I meant.

I suppose I should be all: I learned my lesson today. Should and could. But, did and done. The lesson I learned? Show your work and provide reasons for everything - I repeat - everything I do. Or, name my heir and become a hermit and live a life of obscurity.

However, that? Doesn't sound very fun.
