I have never hosted an event such as this in my life, but it's happening! I am -beyond- excited.
Living in the city my whole life, I, like everyone else who'd attend, -adored- the tournaments. I love the energy, the competitors, the crowd, the moments of staggering disbelief, the flush of patriotic pride when good sportsmanship proves it's far from dead, and the -rush- of -joy- (or anger, depending on who wins) when the victor is crowned and presented.
Swords can vary between elegant weapons, born of a civilized culture, through a spectrum of sizes and kinds into the massive great-swords my father favored. But as I've noticed, there were flashes of envy in the common-folk and nobility alike that their weapon-of-choice was not represented.
Archery is a skill I've admired, the bows and arrows constructed by Ida works of art that I've always been in awe of. I can't remember the last time we -had- an archery tournament.
And the prize? Ah, my friends, it is a marvel. I cannot say more. But it is far and away worthy of being called 'prize'.
I hope everyone can attend!

I am happy with my latest craft. I have not done a wooden sculpture since I was a kid! The glass is what gave me trouble once again, but I think it looks better when it's assymetrical anyway.
Preparations for the Golden Arrow Competition are underway; the idea came from Mistress Joscelin's mind - it is a little awkward for a knight to host - but apparently my stewardship of the Fencing Competition impressed her. She's seeing to the prizes, which may turn out to be the more difficult task.

Each morning comes earlier than the one before. The previous Archscholar would claim it was the result of growing closer to the gods, of the spirit longing to spend more time in conscious worship of their divinity. I have been around enough old men to know this is just the way of life. The body ages. It requires other things. New routines. Relationship Note on Fortunato
"Just an artist." A Grayhope. Unfortunately? I didn't know him a lot in my youth. That decade can mean a lot when you're that age. Fortunato is just mysterious enough to keep people coming back for more, though. On occasion, I get accused of trying to pick people's brains, but it's rarely actually the case. For him? I might make an exception. I think I could spend a day just watching him, as odd as that sounds. I have a feeling he's watching too. Where does he get his artistic inspiration? Someone should ask.

Relationship Note on Sylvie
Lady Sylphie is Lady Cara's sister-in-law, another of that entwined pair of Lycene families from Gemecitta. I've only really met her in passing thus far, but she seems a pleasant enough conversationalist.
I'm also fairly certain she's unlikely to either poison my drink or stab me in the back! At least, for the moment. And I have friends in the Lyceum that I'm not entirely certain I can say that of.

I found Master Viktarkim waiting for me at the Training Center tonight, looking for a lesson in swordplay. I am glad to see him eager to learn; perhaps next time he'll defeat his opponents when he enters a tournament.
He managed to hit me once during our spar; he's already better than a few people I know.

There is an old saying that a battle of wits is not worth fighting when your opponent comes unarmed.
Unfortunately it is seldom the case that any opponent is unarmed, it is simply that their weapon is too fragile or of such poor manufacture to be of any use.
Similarly unfortunate is the case where one is so intellectually dull that their weapon of choice, in a battle of wits, is a club with which they knock you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I shall have to keep a careful eye on this one, I suspect.

It's -- difficult to speak of my brother to anyone, in this way at least, but perhaps with Vincere it bears the least weight. I trust him -- and yes, even Pietro -- as I trust few people. He will be discreet. He will be...subtle. Which is what I need.

I find myself lying awake an awful lot of the time of late. Staring up a the ceiling. I awaken so early that I can hear the carts and shouts of people as they move to the marketplace to set up their stalls every morning.
I wish I could say what it was that keeps me from my rest. Ever since returning to the capital after so many long years away I have been unable to sleep comfortably. Perhaps I am simply unsuited yet to the bustling city life, so long have I been away. I do not know.
I do know, however, that if I find another kitten in my bedclothes, I will throw it from the tower window.

I met a man in the training room the other day. Pietro. His style was so energetically flamboyant, full of finesse and vigor. I knew the moment I saw him fight he was from the Lyceum. I may not indulge in the easy smile and the quick kind words Pietro does, but they are appreciated none the less. I offered to train with him and I hope he takes me up on the offer.
