I've started to notice that the whiskey bottle comes out whenever we start a conversation any more. I'm not sure if it is to brace one-self for what is to be heard, or to ready for what is to be said. Either way, my new goal for a future meeting is a calm, easy going, sips of mead or ale or juice or wine or something one can enjoy in some easy going banter. Wonder if that goal will ever be reached?

Sometimes, I joke that I am the Luckiest Woman. I think it is true, though. Others in Love may disagree. I can empathize with their perspective, indeed.
I never thought I would find Love again, but I am so lucky that Love came to me when I least expected it to, and it came to me in the form of a Northern born who was raised right and who writes to me as well as works hard and much more!

Being at sea puts one in close quarters with a crew. Most times, a sailor comes to both love and hate their crew. They are like family: their faults are magnified, but one relies on them for survival. One is, in the end, grateful for human faces, amid the vastness of the sea and sky.
In Arx, the myriad human forms of all shapes and sizes are so vast as to become a sea, and can drown a sailor just as easily. Makes one grateful for a quiet moment, or missive from someone familiar. They become a port of call, a much needed anchor.

A thought - when we wish for others who have left us to return from the wheel, are we being selfish for it is to wish that their journey is not complete and they shall not pass to Elysium? Could it be an admittance that we have not yet learned all we can from them, and such a request is to honour that person by pointing to how much they still had to teach us? Or just a way for us to cope with our grief?

A fellow asked me of my hobbies tonight. I had to pause, to give this question proper consideration.
My days often feel too full to devote to matters of leisure, particularly of late. We live in times both fascinating and deeply troubled.
My answer? I've a fondness for horses and hounds, and enjoy both riding and hunting when I've the leisure for it. I've less an affinity for birds, but hawking is a fine diversion, and I fish when I've the opportunity for it. Much I love to fill my hours with most, the city is not built for, but I take what small escapes to the forests I can. I enjoy reading, though I've never had the nimble sort of mind true scholarship seems to require. Swordwork is ever invigorating, but it is so tied to duty that I can scarce call it a hobby anymore.
Is this of great import for the scholars and Vellichor's histories? Surely not, in comparison to all the concerns of our age. But I wished to commit to paper that which I took joy in, when I had occasion to think on it, for it seems of particular importance to remember where that can be found just now.

On the topic of the education of the northern folk.
While we didn't exclusively build holds into the sides of mountains by yelling at them, we did yell, we will also yell at people while doing other things to make them less obstructions and more productive for us. It's a practical education learning to clear away that which is unproductive and replace it with what is. Now that is a northern past time.

Thus far the Festival of Death has been a tremendous success. I'm looking forward to the concert and the upcoming fashion show and, of course, the ball. I'm a little less sure about the folly, but there's no one I can blame for that but me.

Another u busy week. I'm getting to see more of the city. This week included my first visits to the grotto and managerie and a return visit to Mercier's tea shop which I really enjoy. even on social outings, I learn important things like the fact that i need to learn to relax more and enjoy the experience of the moment. All around me i saw people taking part in simple please the braiding of hair, the soaking of shoulders and the warmth of hot tea. i wonder how many such things I miss with my head constantly caught in some puzzle. I saw a man have his first experience with tea. I found a bit of amusement at his consternation I confess but he seemed a good sort and each person there gave advice. I've had countless new experiences since ariving in arx but tea and pastry i've long since taken for granted and i found I could not recall my first taste of it. I must not let such moments pass me by as i experience my firsts and always be prepared to question even my simplest assumptions for it never once occurred to me that someone could reach adulthood without having sampled hot tea. as open-minded as I believe myself to be even i hold unquestioned assumptions. an important lesson.

It feels like so much is happening right now...
It's a little embarrassing to say, but I really haven't been keeping up with politics or with the elections for council. I've been so busy designing and sewing gowns because I have so many to work on, and this is my first big push to show....
I feel bad about it! But it will be so exciting to have a fashion show! So it'll be so worth it!
